When are we going to get another truly great magical girl series? Precure kinda sucks.
the premise sounds stupid. but i'll watch it.
Sorry to inform you, but 3rei isn't mahou shoujo.
Yes that's what I posted you bumfluff
>he doesn't know what a true mahou shoujo is!
EVERYBODY IS LAUGHING AT YOU
That's most mahou shoujo in general. Why watch a genre known for a mostly female cast if you're bothered by female relationships? Why do people who hate yuri wear yuri goggles? The great mysteries of the 21st century.
Which is superior?
Magical girl gets attacked by a villain, spends a few minutes being chased and trying to escape, only to transform and defeat the enemy in one blow.
Magical girl gets attacked by a villain, transforms, puts up a fight with the enemy, and eventually delivers the final attack once she has the opportunity.
The second has a lot more action, but the first can be a lot more funny.
An example of the top one is Akazukin Chacha. Usually Chacha wastes time trying to cast spells and failing, and then transforms into the Magical Princess. She then does one attack and wins.
I don't really like that, because her Magical Princess design is cool. But I typically only see her for one minute while she does her attack and that's it. And her attack is always the same.
This truth saddens me. Mahou shoujo is nothing without otomegokoro.
Look at their hats.
Well you're definitely both bothersome.
>Mahou shoujo is for girls and mature men
>Mahou shoujo now the domain of lolicons
Then again, there were always loli-pandering mahou shoujo shows. See Cyber-Team in Akihabara.
It's still disheartening, mahou shoujo is pretty bad right now, precure is objectively trash.
In his defence, apart from the monster-of-the-week like format and very minimalist transformation/entrance duel scenes, Utena is just a glorified fencing anime.
Sure, by broad definition Utena is a shoujo show with some magical elements, but it's not exactly the type of mahou shoujo like Doremi or Sailor Moon are.
Reminder Mahou Shoujo is effectively defined by it's demographic. The best MS shows historically were always made by men, for little girls.
Edgy and/or Yuribait shows like Madoka are designed for otaku from the beginning and should not even be in the same category. If you enjoy that kind of things it's fine, but because they share a bit of imagery it doesn't mean they're anything alike.
I agree with this. Utena is not a magical girl anime.
You aren't supposed to take the term literally. Slayers is not a magical girl anime, zero no tsukaima is not a magical anime either.
I think it is, but it's atypical, it only barely makes it.
Haven't watched that many, really. Perhaps Madoka. I am so /a/ core if I say this, but Princess Tutu was also great, and Cardcaptor Sakura. I don't know if this can be considered a magical girl, I am leaning towards not, but if you accept it, I also really, really like Magic Knight Rayearth.
Yuuki Yuuna, PSG and Moetan are stuff I would not consider top tier.
In some cases, but it doesn't really matter. Sailor Moon never would have gone anywhere without Ikuhara, Sato, et all working on it, and most of the really influential shows prior to that weren't based on shoujo manga at all.
