Not only that but Another was directed by Tsutomu Mizushima and the result is something characteristically his. If you want to shitpost about Another, look no further than Mizushima's original this season, Mayoiga, that is done in the same spirit. The writer here hasn't done an original before, so he might be a wildcard, but Okamura is a director who gets involved with the writing process of his originals, I wouldn't even be surprised if he ended up scripting an episode himself. So, I have no doubt he's guiding the writer well.

It's mainly ripoffs and/or sequels of established shit same as most seasons lately. Joker Game is kind of the only thing that stands out as of now as not so well treaded. Well trampled might be a better way of putting it. Anime has kind of gotten like the Japanese game industry where the main difference between most shows are which ones look shinier than the others.

I really don't think there is a most promising anime of the season. I know people need to crown their AOTS for whatever it's worth post haste but if there's a clear one worthy of distinction like most seasons I'm sure as hell not seeing it. A lot of passable even entertaining fluff, but nothing exceptionally promising.

You're never really going to get this again outside of Sunrise, Bones, I.G or maybe Orange if you're going to do the CGI thing. Most studios not inside the Bandai Visual families mecha looks like ass. Even the new Macross is looking highly suspect already and that is Bandai bucks backed. That's also supposed to be one of Satelights stronger suits is their CGI. Anyway this show picked a bad season to come out in though I don't know where else they could have put it really. Either it's going up against Macross or it's going up against Gundam. Either way it's doomed to second fiddle status with the mecha crowd. I just feel kind of bad for P.A Works at this point, they're trying to expand and have had so many bombs of late and this is supposed to be their 10th anniversary work. I really wish they'd just go back and do another Shirobako or something which was like they're only critically acclaimed hit in years.

Madoka seems like kind of a one off lucky thing that is a result of a strong combination of just the right believers groups at just the right time when they were all coming off of red hot hits. The whole cute girls bait and switch into grimdark story arc thing doesn't seem to have worked much since and it's not like they haven't tried a few times already.
