Always remember Julis lost to both Mio and Stella in BD sales
Mio got an S2 though and beat both Julis and Stella
Yeah, I would think so. You'll be missing out of decent and cool stuff otherwise.
I'll tell you outright, I tend to watch these shitty harems every season mostly to just rip on them. Asterisk, for better or for worse, got aniplex funding and S1 takes its fucking time but doesn't really set up the setting all that well and is generally agreed to be extremely slow and boring after the first arc.
The MC is nothing exactly special but he's the overpowered type so take that for what you will. The main girl, other than the extremely cliche introduction is decent. Every other girl except Kirin however is practically irrelevant and you'll find yourself more interested in the side characters since the main crew interactions are pretty boring. Music's notability for me only extends to the opening and ending only.
I already watch a very high amount of anime already, couple of hours a day, so it's true I could very well add that one. I don't know, it's rare for a shitty LN adaptation anime to get a S2 so I'm curious. I have a thing for pink haired girls and MC looks rather cute.
I usually watch those too but missed on that one. Your description might as well apply to all of them really.
Ah yeah I remember now. I picked Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan over Asterix because it seemed better. So Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan was the last shitty LN adaptation I watched.
>Might apply to all of them
That's the case I tried to make when I said
>for better or for worse
Because other series usually rush to get to the interesting parts but Asterisk has the episode count to be take its time and try to flesh things out but still end up boring as all hell.
Rakudai set out what it did to do decently enough. Out of most seasonal harems, its fight scenes left more impact but that's not saying much when what I just said only applies to two fights. If I had just S1 of Asterisk to Rakudai, I'd rather take the fights. Just me of course.
>That's the case I tried to make when I said
Yeah I wasn't arguing.
I might try out Asterisk. Reason I'm hesitating is because I never drop anything, so if I decide to watch it it'll be until the end and I don't want to be trapped into another Strike the Blood or fucking Mahouka.
>I think people might be confusing me with the anon thinking of watching the series.
I think they are, otherwise I don't get this comment >>139701032.
I know it hurts anon.
Where would you rank Asterisk and Rakudai among battle school harems? Honest question, the only one i've ever watched was IS and as i've just got a boring retail job I find myself with more free time than ever I might aswell pick this genre.
After watching Bahamut, I came to a conclusion that the trio of battle harems of the previous Fall Season were actually pretty decent in terms of characters, dynamics, and music in their own rights. There's something good going on for each of them but there's also a fair amount of bad.
Fights are well animated. People may argue that Asterisk had the overall better animation and I'm inclined to agree but where it mattered most, Rakudai had the most well executed fights with two of them being the most memorable battles in most harems. The soundtrack is pretty decent as well.
As much as people hype about Stella, her inclusion into the series could have been handled much better and she only comes off pretty shallow in her character and how the relationship aspect is unfortunately an integral part of the series. She isn't bad, but definitely could have been better. Stuff like winning with the power of love and the entire last arc being jarring as all hell didn't help.
It takes it's time and its funding gives it the benefit of being great in all technical aspects.
Depending on the viewer, the series drags on unfortunately. Out of the three that aired in Fall, it was the most by the books LN harem series but it is what it is. I can't properly judge right now but as far as S1 goes, it wasn't all that great when the side characters added some much needed life to the series.
Overall, they're actually decent where battle harems are involved. There was obvious effort put into both of them.
Yo, I'm here again.
I'm currently making a project for Rakudai/Mahouka/Asterisk style tabletops, in which you can generate your own school and stuff like that.
All and any ideas for things to include would be appreciated. Also any suggestions how to name the damn thing?
Is there any other series in the genre that should be watched first before Bahamut, Asterisk or Rakudai? Something that has a decent plot or leaves an impression?
n-no more bothering you anon-sama
The other 1/3rd of the Fall Trio, Antimagic. It's a horrendous adaptation but it's one of the few series that made me read ahead in the light novels. It has a semblance of plot and doesn't focus on tournament style fighting.
But it was objectively the worst-made one from the trio. I wouldn't even place Bahamut close to the trio though. Not that they're all that amazing but it just feels fitting to have the three together.
is the best girl going to appear outside the op and the previews this time?
She's part of the series but is mostly there to hint at things to come. So she's Tease, the character in S1.
I guess that counts too, although that takes itself way too seriously for me.
Best girl is always relevant.
I've checked them and the one that looks better is Bahamut me thinks, sadly the MC looks like he's going to be some terrible Gary Stu, i'm going to see Asterisk first.
t-thanks for being so helpful
Nay. But they will have a lovely time together at the royal dinner party.
Last thread it was said they do. Ayato apparently almost rejected Saya but she is content to hold a torch for a long time.
Claudia gave him a confession but she is fucked up and post-sane so she wants to redo it before he answers.
Nobody gives a fuck about Kirin at ALL, apparently.
Man, I hate these setups. Why can't a battle romance series have several male MCs not to leave several girls heartbroken? I mean, they specifically make them all appealing in different ways and try to make them engaging human beings, but ultimately an MC usually can choose just one, unless it is some sort of degenerate menage á multiple end (which I never once saw, either.)
It's just so hard on empathetic viewers.
That too. Being Lester is suffering. I mean, he is a legitimately powerful character, who probably worked his ass off to get to where he is. And Ayato just cruises in and crushes him effortlessly by being a little entitled-to-plot-energy shit, where Julis shat all over him by being a fucking (1.8% chance to happen) Strega. Then to top it off he's fucked up by the vampire chick just to show off her powers.
No fucking shit he's aggravated, embarrassed, and angry that all his hard work amounts to nothing in the face of such titanic faggotry.
Oh, OK. Can we make a list of the battle-school harems while we're at it?
The Rakudai-Asterisk-Taimadou trifecta plus Mahouka is obvious.
What else? Infinity Stratos? People act like it's a really common thing that has gone on for years, but I can't readily find any other series that follow the formula to such an extent.
I barely register IS to be a battle harem anymore. That and Bahamut don't really feel like it would mesh with the others. Try the battle harem extravaganza from a few years ago with World Break, Fafnir, and Absolute Duo. Shinmai too I guess.
I don't want to start IS because apparently the MC there is even more dense and herbivorous than is the norm, and he has a severe risk of drowning in poon to death.
Isn't Fafnir a series about giant mecha that tries to be Evangelion with extra pathos?
I think there's two series called Fafnir, my bad on not differentiating. I'm not exactly sure but the one I mentioned didn't involve too many mechs or I'm remembering wrong.
And yeah, don't star IS. Just because it started this whole shitshow doesn't mean it's all that great.
Can't have a big guy that is relevant and plays to the same strengths Kirin does in the same pair as the ranged specialist, no sir.
He could have been relevant in a fire-forged friends way with Ayato, too. He could DATE THE VAMPIRE CHICK BECAUSE WHY THE FUCK NOT? We can't have the incest subtheme broken there too, though, or the titillating aspect would be gone.
So much wasted potential. That's actually the reason I'm developing my fucking thing.
By the way, why the fuck doesn't Claudia perform? I mean, she could shit upon most contestants even without precog, probably. Is she concealing trump cards or something?
What has Rakudai have to do with this
They are the closet thing to a couple. The grand scheme of things it's inevitable that Ayato will do something about Juli's situation. The more she wins Festa, the more IEF will pay attention to her and make use of her, by way of forced political marriage.
Not practical for her to. She wants to enter the Festa with the best chance of success for her because of the way Pan-Dora works and its limitations. That's the Gryps team battle and so she gains nothing from entering the Phoenix and lowering her own power/letting people scrutinise her abilities.
I know it's an /a/ meme at this point, but really, I hope it dies down soon, with all the "(not) for sexual" shitposting and such.
I'd love if people around here saw girls even from such series as characters and not vehicles for fullfilling their sexual desires of different aspects.
She probably smells like high-class perfume, realistically. She needs to maintain appearances, after all.
Lewdposting is all I can do to show I care. There's not much to talk about in terms of them as characters or even the show itself because it's a school battle harem.
Antimagic threads had nice discussion though, there was always lots to complain about the adaptation and LN discussion about Kyouya, Sougetsu and Ouka.
Well, Julis/Juliska is an actual Hungarian name, apparently. So given that its the future and the socio-cultural patterns are probably all fucked up (and she's a European princess) — her name actually makes a decent amount of sense. I don't think they made research, though — I am just retroactively justifying things.
That's because she did something significant, when a lot of female leads in battle harems fade into the background after their arc. And it was controversial.
Ouka was a monster, anon.
It's been a while since I've read it so there may be some inaccuracies.
When Ouka was young her family was killed by a witch called Laugh Maker. LM controlled Ouka's body, made her kill her family and forced her to laugh over their corpses. This turned Ouka into angsty muh revenge. LM killed thousands this way but had her mind broken when she was young so she couldn't tell right from wrong.
In Vol 7 she finds LM again, but now she's been instilled with a sense of morals due to some split personality shenanigans and knows that what she did was wrong. She wants to die to repent, because the pain and guilt of living with her sins is destroying her from the inside. Ouka defeats her but refuses to kill her, instead forcibly turning her into an immortal vampire so she can spend the rest of eternity suffering.
Do you like skill magic/abilities (the type that can be taught and learnt) or inherent magic/abilities (the type that need some sort of internal magical gift to use) more in your animes?
I am mostly doing research and generating slow burn for the thread while it is in a lull. Feel free to shut me up if you feel I am being aggravating or obnoxious. I'd just like to ask people about the stuff I want here and not on /tg/ since I tried /tg/ two times and it didn't generate any meaningful discussion; I learnt more about what I need from the last two Asterisk threads alone.
For that matter, feel free to offer questions and/or suggestions if you want to.
Exquisite taste, fine sirs.
She's flavoured like any other girl. Doesn't poop rainbows either. Can we stop being creeps and consider how awesomely composed and professional she was in S2E1? Not a squeak of losing spaghetti over Ayato, zilch harem shenanigans.
Well, as someone who read the novel I can say that Julis is generally like that. She was like that most of the time in S1, and that was before her partner relationship with Ayato progressed to what we have now in the current timeline.
Doesn't make sense. Her tsundere scenes are seldom, and even then they don't betray the way she carries herself with a collective demeanor. In the episode before (12) she and Ayato might have kissed if they weren't interrupted.
What the hell are you doing?
There's a reverse troll going around spamming pointless Julis threads, typically with dumb filenames or subtle bait pics. Best way to counter is make the thread comfy and ignore what he's trying to do.
This is what you get when you get write a fucking battle harem.
You would think that people would be smart and try to rip off Ranma's formatting with multiple love triangles going everywhere, and the main character being the lynchpin, but hey, gotta line up those girls and discard them after their story is done.
Oh. I just did it because the last one I was in turned out to be comfy so I started another one after waiting for most of a day and seeing none to jump in.
I am sorry to have unwittingly helped a troll.
You've been around this rodeo long enough to know that the only guys that can be relevant are villains, and everyone else that's male exists to make the main character look by comparison.
And in Lester's case, he's been designed SPECIFICALLY for that role.
>You would think that people would be smart and try to rip off Ranma's formatting with multiple love triangles going everywhere, and the main character being the lynchpin, but hey, gotta line up those girls and discard them after their story is done.
Yes, that would have been awesome.
Rakudai is better in that regard, but some people complain it has a more jarring romance line. The MC is non-dense, and doesn't tap his girlfriend straightaway due to political reasons and not due to being made of neutronium.
Gakusen is less that but shapes up to be better in the S1E13-24, and is overall decent, with more consistently good animation due to Aniplex-moneys well spent.
Let me tell you something: Rakudai is NOT a harem
Only two girls lust after the MC, you need at least THREE of them for it to become a harem
Also one of the girls is his sister, so she never had a chance anyway
Yes, I wanted to mention that, but I thought that people would go
>muh Rakudai not harem fanboys
and basically have an adverse reaction polarly opposite to what you said. I guess one just can't win at trying to peacefully coexist sometimes.
Also doesn't the dojo owner's daughter lust after him? I thought she did.
Hungry and needy, because she's starved for compassion, but generally rather anemic because her psyche is probably shell-shocked into oblivion and she hasn't gotten a decent night's sleep for three years and counting.
What a slut.
Not as hot as Julis, that's for sure.
Claudia is way too tired to do hot. She's probably go for full lazy and romantic. Come on, she falls asleep while working even when she knows what's gonna happen. The girl is dead tired.
Obvious best girl. Show was pretty shit tho
I feel like most of the girls are pretty good in this. I am not really partial to Kirin because she is kinda... Pointless? She isn't going to win Ayato, she isn't going to win the Festa, she will probably have her problem solved by Ayato and be even more lusting after his dick, but to no point.
I'd love to see a Saya/Lester vs Kirin/Bullet Witch pairings fight, but different schools and all that.
Asterisk doesn't get a lot of doujins at all for some reason. Even though the designs and the story lend themselves to a lot of easy excuses or interesting plots.
> Claudia dying from orgasm seizure in a Pan-Dora dream
> Saya/Lester consensual
> Saya/Kirin experimentation
> Ayato/Julis full romantic vanilla
> Julis paying for the orphanage with her body
> Ayato/Julis/Claudia threesome with Claudia helping the two of them easen up and open up to each other while getting off; all a trust-building exercise before the Gryps Festa
> pure fetishstuff, like Julis stockings fetish or Claudia paizuri, are even more obvious
> vampire chick bloodplay
> vampire chick Gravi-Sheath-enhanced zero-g sex
I can go on.
Who else here is waiting for best girl to show up again?
>Claudia next episode
Ayato being a beta fag sure as hell doesn't know.
> Ernesta/any of the introverted girls teasing
> Claudia/Ernesta just pretty much fucking writes itself. The hotness and the tension.
> Any of the sexually free girls / Lei-Glems user who is torn between being utterly horny and acting wicked chivalrous as to not lose his Ogre Lux
>no idea who Sylvia is, sorry
> AR-D/Ernesta galatean love
> AR-D/RM-C femdom and role reversal
> Chinese loli actually being not that interested in sex and being slowly coaxed into sexual fun from being dead-locked into her blood knight ways
>Chinese loli experiencing romantic love for any weak character
(I know those aren't obvious choices but I feel like they would be way more interesting than the usual "hungry sexual predator loli who's awesome at fighting" route)
>She's fixing her neuro-interface that slipped off her hair a bit.
It's easy to reason how girls can do this because we can see them wear them, but how do the guys do it? I don't think I've seen a guy with obvious interface items on their bodies that would let them do things like this with their hands.
That bracelet, maybe.
Doesn't seem like he has one. All Seidoukan students seemingly have a tech plate on each side of their waist so maybe that's what he uses over custom models.
The moment someone mentions Rakudai (the obviously better series) in an Asterisk thread, the asteriskfags get so assblasted they spout out bullshit and actually convince themselves it is true.
Both series have strong points. Please do not start shit.
Instead, tell me how would you have changed Asterisk if you had creative control, for it to match the other series.
(I am giving you the benefit of doubt here and hoping you are not a troll.)
Are we ever going to see Claudia wreck some poo soul with her future predicting ability, laugh manically all the while?
She doesn't need her future predictive ability to wreck random no-names. What aggravates me is that Pan-Dora is a shit, actually. It gives you precog but not the knowledge when to use it. So you can't actually precog stuff like someone trying to sniper you across the road or things like that. And that is exactly the sort of thing she would need if she wants to fuck up the status quo with her mother — no one is going to try to eliminate her in a fucking Festa or ranked match.
I hope she learns how to make Pan-Dora activate reflexively upon danger, soon.
>high school magical battle harems
Do tell! Is it the music? Or the girls? The battles?
You yourself acknowledged that the series is one of many that will purposely makes sure that no male characters can ever be decent and exist only to make the MC look good.
Ca you imagine insuring a standard like that in Slayers? Berserk? A Gundam series?
Shit, even ZnT bothers having some relevant male characters, capable of doing things Saito can't, just based on the idea that he doesn't have any magic spells at all.
Series like SAO, IS and this can't even grant that, shit IS was written specifically to make the world revolve around one guy and surround him with girls.
What do series like these that thrive really have to offer?
