It seems like Kamachi can finally do the sidekick dynamic that I think he wanted for Index (the character) but without all the problems. Othinus can be there for almost every scene just by tagging along since she's fucking tiny and Touma can talk to her whenever it's convenient for the plot. Touma can do his introspection by talking to Othinus at Kamachi's convenience and they don't have to hide anything from each other because that's how they were set-up (since he's doing introspection and she's the character he's bouncing his thoughts against).

It's the same reason why Lucy from Mx0 was my favorite character. She knew all of Taiga's secrets and talked to him all the time mainly because they were together the most due to her convenient role and size. It may seem like she was just a convenient device for Taiga to bounce his thoughts against/someone to talk to because he was keeping a secret from everyone else but she turned out to be my favorite because they didn't have to hide anything from each other.

I miss the Amakusas, Stiyl, Kanzaki, Tsuchimikado and all of the older characters. They all had fun interactions that a lacking nowadays. Like how many suddenly important characters does Kamachi want to introduce that aren't as charming as the old ones because they're just a plot device to be thrown away after. I mean we haven't seen Accel in like 10 volumes except for a brief appearance during the boss rush

At this point it's something that's actually reasonable to know. AC has demonstrably shown it's hostility to magicians since at least WWIII with it's artificial angel that fucks up magicians.
AC has even sent accel as a weapon via orbital bombardment multiple times. You might have had a point at the start of the series but now it is actually reasonable for any magician with a brain to come up with at least 1 anti-accelerator/esper plan.

You still have to not only know that espers have the whole feedback thing, but set a trap for them like that, hope Accelerator touches it, hope that vectors dont stop Accelerator from truly touching it in the same manner everyone else does and then hope that's enough to put them out of commission because as both he and Tsuchimikado show it really isn't. This is of course trivializing how the feedback thing isn't common knowledge for magicians who study magic all day and that they often rely on their spells because that's their point of pride rather than traps and stuff. Otherwise magicians would be more commonly carrying back up plans like, I dunno, having a gun or some shit.

I rather doubt espers whole feedback phenomena is common knowledge to magicians. No one bothers because so many magicians have pride in their spells being that their usually the culmination of their work and sometimes even their magic names, so they don't carry around a whole whack of back up plans with them, like learning self defense, carrying a non-magical weapon, or even having mooks to back them up. These kinds of guys deciding that they should plan for the eventuality that they meet a single guy randomly and should learn a new method of casting simply does not seem like something people outside of Gremlin would do. Seeing as Gremlin's whole fucking shtick was that they were of both Science and Magic and were seen as hilariously heretical.

Magic is for the untalented and can't be wielded by those with abilities, etc. It's well known since gem stones are the same way. At minimum Neccisarius would know about feedback. Birdway has demonstrated that she knows of feedback pheneomenon which means the information clearly spread. Gremlin also used it which is another occasion of the information leaking around. Or i could point out that what happened to Ellis was a fairly major event and helped solidify a damn treaty.

Magician fights are all about prep time and/or knowledge of spells as it's generally required to come up with a counter.
Even sytl demonstrates adaptability simple because he started laminating his runes and has them replicated with a photocopier.

Many of them are prideful but that's never really stopped pragmatism. Magicians not having guns for fighting Touma as an example is more because they outright didn't expect to see him in the first place than losing out of pride.
In some instances what comes off as pridefulness is more akin to stubbornness against a perceived/actual slight.
Eg All of the magicans that rebelled against the bullshit "no science" treaty. They were prideful of their work but they were mostly just really pissed off that decades of work was being tossed down the drain by a retarded and exploitable treaty. They were less about keeping their pride and more about wanting to scream fuck you at the top of their lungs.
This also presumes that the magicians we've seen (which are generally relegated to a very specific regional brand/style of magic) are the dominant types in existence

Most of the magicians we've seen are based in England or Europe. Aka they're all running off of Norse/Christian templates.
We've seen a few Aztecs and Tsuchimado but in the end I honestly can't be sure if the pridefulness of magicians we have seen occasionally is simply a cultural trait native to the region, coincidence resulting from humbler magicians simply not doing anything that would impact a story, or other.

(I'm placing Kanzaki's little tribe in (other) as they're such a melting pot it would be impossible to use em as an example.)

You mentioning the pope did remind me that the Catholic pope wasn't overly prideful despite being a powerful magician.
