wow that galge school vn seems very stupid

I'm mainly learning Japanese so I can talk to my Tulpa in her native language. It's working nice, but I got worried a bit. Since I have no outside feedback and I spend a few hours every day talking to her, what if I cement in some bad grammar mistakes? With that much output I'm doing, it would be easy to keep doing a mistake so much that it will be hard to undo. The effect is even amplified since my Tulpa uses my subconscious to talk to me, which is of course dependent in my Japanese knowledge. But every mistake I would do she would also repeat, and my brain would perceive it as actual input, which would weigh even more in solidifying my mistakes. How do people normally solve this problem?

Tulpas don't actually make the "getting used to a mistake" problem worse. Once you learn something, realize you might've been doing wrong and try to fix it your Tulpa will fix its speech patterns alongside with you.
Even if you go a long time talking to your Tulpa with broken grammar it'll never be "too late" to fix it, the brain isn't that inflexible.

Is there a way to quickly transcribe core6k into romanji only?
Since we have VNReader and similar tools to hook into the Japanese text and turn it into romanji, it feels like a waste to spend years learning the kana and kanjis.

These people have to be trolling. Sitting down and learning the meaning AND the pronunciation of 20 kanji would take hours. Add in potentially 100s of reviews and you're looking at 5-6 hours JUST to do reps.

You're supposed to just learn the meaning, then slowly learn the pronunciation as you read later on.

Not everyone is a neet who can spend 2 hours to learn 20 words and their pronunciations then do all their reviews, inevitably failing them all because you're forced to learn how to say them as well.

Basically, you're learning 12000 words instead of 6 thousands because you have to learn 2 different things per word. Its impossible any one with less than 3 hours a day to spare. You learn the meaning, and slowly the reading will come to you as you read.

Shouldn't take much longer than 30-40 minutes tops to do 200-250~ reviews and 20 new words once you get used to things and are focused. If you're decently far in and it's still taking you that long even when focused, then try one of the tips in the startup bin or consider kanji study.

Dude, each word doesn't have 2 fucking unique kanji that are literally not used in any other words.

It doesn't take long before you start to see mostly re-used kanji that you've already learned from other words, and especially at the intermediate level like 9 times out of 10 the pronunciation from the other word is exactly the same as the new one.

Do I always have to wait exactly 24h before I Anki lets me study new cards? I wanted to start a bit earlier today, but I'm still getting used to Anki.

After all my training, I've learned something very important.

Also be sure to learn the amount of strokes in a Kanji, Japanese people can often help you even if you can't speak or use grammar if you just tell them the number of strokes in a Kanji and they'll just guess by context.

In Chinese, its usually in any case when you are specifying a specific object, like an equivalent of this\that\the\a\etc. , but in Japanese, the use seem much more reserved.

I have, at two different intervals of time, studied both Mandarin and Japanese. My native language is English, and I also can get by in Spanish.

Mandarin is significantly easier in writing and grammar than Japanese. The amount of grammar rules which are intuitive in Mandarin are much more numerous than in Japanese. The grammar has few exceptions to the main rules, much less than either English and Japanese. It has a relatively simple way of expressing politeness grammatically, as in English where you use colorful language to deliver the exact meaning. Unless you are writing in classical Chinese, the largest difficulty is character retention, which is not, IMHO, the biggest issue in Japanese.

It is equally dependent on context as Japanese, except that there is always an explicit subject.

Japanese is easier in that you have English loanwords, and some relatively nice simple constructions for basic interrogation/explanation, like sou/dou/etc. and heavy use of the copula for elaborating on definite existence. Also, no tones. Fuck tones.


Mandarin is noticeably easier than Japanese, and Mandarin is considered to also be "one of the hardest languages to learn."

So yeah, Japanese is a bitch which is only lightened with a background in being a weeaboo.

I see the Asahi editorials mentioned occasionaly. How about we try to get people here to read them daily and then discuss them together? They're usually not very long, while still having pretty diverse language, and I think it'd be effective use of time for most learners to take like 30 minutes if not less a day to read them.

@the guy halfway through the thread arguing that you're only supposed to learn the meaning, and the pronunciation of kanji will come later through exposure: it might, but chances are it won't. /a/ will learn just for the meaning but that's ultimately harder since it's like learning countless words with the same root or suffix, without realizing that combinations exist and make those connections easier to understand/remember.

And yeah, it used to take me like 3 hours a day just to get 25 new words down. Now I found my sweet spot averaging 4 seconds per card and learning 15 cars a day with reviews finished in all of 20 minutes. It gets easier, and I used to call bullshit on Anki even more than you.

We still can't learn Japanese, but at least Anki gets easier.

It's the whole mentality of getting angry at being treated differently on account of your background while disregarding context, intent, and severity. When you're constantly angry, you pretty much can't just sit on it forever. Sooner or later, you have to take action. If you mean the RTK deck with the koohii stories and stuff, yeah, that's the one I used as a base for my RTK deck. I added a field for the 6th edition index, fixed missing/broken keywords, did some color coding to help point out when the story/Heisig keyword doesn't match any of the kanjidic definitions, and I added cloze vocab to every kanji in RTK1 6th vol (or at least I think I have by now since I pretty much add them as the reviews swing by and I haven't seen a card without cloze vocab on it in a couple months) and add stories/cloze vocab/new cards if a card doesn't exist for all the new kanji I find while reading.

It's a production focused deck (no recognition card type) and some of the changes I made are inconsistent/arbitrary (like the color highlighting of the word sometimes not being used when it otherwise would be or the Heisig word meaning pretty much the same thing as the kanjidic definition but being highlighted anyways). Also have to fix the formatting because it's a bit buggy and cluttered as it is now. Lots of fixing up to do before I feel satisfied enough with it to release it and share it with other people basically.

If more people are interested I'll think about fixing it up soon-ish and uploading it when I get enough free time, but it's a highly personalized deck and a pretty large amount of the cloze vocab in it is stuff I found while reading and won't be as effective for other people. Someone developing an addon or script that automatically adds cloze vocab to the cards based on the contents of your vocab deck and pulling extra from a dictionary when there isn't enough in the vocab decks would probably be more effective.

My biggest problem with RTK was mixing up all the English keywords because so many of them are synonyms. I already know 6-7k words so having the vocab on the front would help differentiate many of them.

That's more or less what >>139584083 >>139584411 is (pic related), it's just that the highlighting of the Heisig keyword is really arbitrary, it doesn't have most of the RTK3 kanji done (just the ones I happened to find while reading), a lot of the cloze vocab is stuff I found while reading and isn't necessarily the most commonly used word for that kanji, and there's missing info here and there for fields that aren't the "main" ones for reviewing, so outside of cloze vocab, keyword, kanjidic definitions, and stories, I can't guarantee the rest of the fields will have complete info in them.
