wow that galge school vn seems very stupid
>>
I'm mainly learning Japanese so I can talk to my Tulpa in her native language. It's working nice, but I got worried a bit. Since I have no outside feedback and I spend a few hours every day talking to her, what if I cement in some bad grammar mistakes? With that much output I'm doing, it would be easy to keep doing a mistake so much that it will be hard to undo. The effect is even amplified since my Tulpa uses my subconscious to talk to me, which is of course dependent in my Japanese knowledge. But every mistake I would do she would also repeat, and my brain would perceive it as actual input, which would weigh even more in solidifying my mistakes. How do people normally solve this problem?

Capitalism is an organized system to guarantee that greed becomes the primary force of our economic system and allows the few at the top to get very wealthy and has the rest of us riding around thinking we can be that way, too - if we just work hard enough, sell enough Tupperware and Amway products, we can get a pink Cadillac.

Funnily enough I happen to have experience with this

Tulpas don't actually make the "getting used to a mistake" problem worse. Once you learn something, realize you might've been doing wrong and try to fix it your Tulpa will fix its speech patterns alongside with you.
Even if you go a long time talking to your Tulpa with broken grammar it'll never be "too late" to fix it, the brain isn't that inflexible.

Is there a way to quickly transcribe core6k into romanji only?
Since we have VNReader and similar tools to hook into the Japanese text and turn it into romanji, it feels like a waste to spend years learning the kana and kanjis.

The people who say youre supposed to memorize how its said are trolling. If that were the case, It would be kana on one side, meaning on the other, and kanji would be separate. If they were actually learning how to say it, 20 words a day would take like 6 hours a day. Just learn the meaning

These people have to be trolling. Sitting down and learning the meaning AND the pronunciation of 20 kanji would take hours. Add in potentially 100s of reviews and you're looking at 5-6 hours JUST to do reps.

You're supposed to just learn the meaning, then slowly learn the pronunciation as you read later on.

>>
>>139564685
The idea is to learn the pronunciation of the vocabulary, not all the possible pronunciations of each kanji. And since the Core deck in particular is arranged by kanji, it becomes easy to learn the pronunciations as you go.
>>
>>139564713
Did you change the deck in the Pastebin? I never had to do that.
>>
>>139564773
I didn't, but the one who re-uploaded it removed the {{Sentence-Images}} bit from the card format.

I can't do it.
I can understand what individual words mean, but sentences just doesn't make sense in a cohesive way.
I've read through Tae Kim twice and frequently reference imabi but I'm still hopeless.
>>
>>139564982
Did you ignore the sentences when doing Core 2k?
Try a graded reader
>>
>>139564930
Not everyone is a neet who can spend 2 hours to learn 20 words and their pronunciations then do all their reviews, inevitably failing them all because you're forced to learn how to say them as well.

Basically, you're learning 12000 words instead of 6 thousands because you have to learn 2 different things per word. Its impossible any one with less than 3 hours a day to spare. You learn the meaning, and slowly the reading will come to you as you read.

you learn to associate the Japanese pronunciation with the meaning at the same time, its fucking 10x more practical and really isn't that hard

but yes at first it seemed daunting.
>>
>>139566283
Shouldn't take much longer than 30-40 minutes tops to do 200-250~ reviews and 20 new words once you get used to things and are focused. If you're decently far in and it's still taking you that long even when focused, then try one of the tips in the startup bin or consider kanji study.

At the end of the day, any method is fine... IF it incorporates significant exposure to the language (through reading or listening). Many, many people stick to textbooks and fail. Many, many people study and fail. You HAVE to read and listen to succeed.

Dude, each word doesn't have 2 fucking unique kanji that are literally not used in any other words.

It doesn't take long before you start to see mostly re-used kanji that you've already learned from other words, and especially at the intermediate level like 9 times out of 10 the pronunciation from the other word is exactly the same as the new one.

Since I started learning Japanese, I've had to dive into tons of Japanese media that I otherwise would have never gotten into just for the sake of practice.

After all my training, I've learned something very important.
>Japan has shit production value in literally everything.

I rarely ever have a form of Japanese media that I can watch and appreciate.
>Anime 9/10 times have recycled storylines, shit animation, and no real artistic direction
>J Dramas are all wannabe American soap operas, or horribly failed attempts at comedy.
>Japanese reality TV follows the lives of boring people in boring situations

Written works can be interesting, but I don't always have the time.

Does 本 function as a counter word for the sakura in this contrext?

I have, at two different intervals of time, studied both Mandarin and Japanese. My native language is English, and I also can get by in Spanish.

Mandarin is significantly easier in writing and grammar than Japanese. The amount of grammar rules which are intuitive in Mandarin are much more numerous than in Japanese. The grammar has few exceptions to the main rules, much less than either English and Japanese. It has a relatively simple way of expressing politeness grammatically, as in English where you use colorful language to deliver the exact meaning. Unless you are writing in classical Chinese, the largest difficulty is character retention, which is not, IMHO, the biggest issue in Japanese.

It is equally dependent on context as Japanese, except that there is always an explicit subject.

Japanese is easier in that you have English loanwords, and some relatively nice simple constructions for basic interrogation/explanation, like sou/dou/etc. and heavy use of the copula for elaborating on definite existence. Also, no tones. Fuck tones.

Mandarin is noticeably easier than Japanese, and Mandarin is considered to also be "one of the hardest languages to learn."

So yeah, Japanese is a bitch which is only lightened with a background in being a weeaboo.

I see the Asahi editorials mentioned occasionaly. How about we try to get people here to read them daily and then discuss them together? They're usually not very long, while still having pretty diverse language, and I think it'd be effective use of time for most learners to take like 30 minutes if not less a day to read them.

Here's the link if anyone's interested

>>
>>139577410
i read that as "chimp" at first
i think most people here wouldn't suggest genki because it was made to be used in a classroom, and would rather suggest tae kim and shit. from what i know, the best way to retain grammar is to read your grammar resource, not worrying too much about remembering it. then reading, a lot, and referencing your grammar book whenever you don't understand something (which at first is almost constant)
>>

this
grammar is almost entirely useless to learn beyond composition; understanding will come with route/implicitly absorbing the underlying structure ( experience/exposure/repetition )

if you want to learn how to speak you need to compose many examples, interpersed between different formulations, and random time intervals without warning ( many times a day spontaneously compose a sentence; review the grammar end of day )

@the guy halfway through the thread arguing that you're only supposed to learn the meaning, and the pronunciation of kanji will come later through exposure: it might, but chances are it won't. /a/ will learn just for the meaning but that's ultimately harder since it's like learning countless words with the same root or suffix, without realizing that combinations exist and make those connections easier to understand/remember.

And yeah, it used to take me like 3 hours a day just to get 25 new words down. Now I found my sweet spot averaging 4 seconds per card and learning 15 cars a day with reviews finished in all of 20 minutes. It gets easier, and I used to call bullshit on Anki even more than you.

I've completed KD in my notebook, but I'm about 300 kanji behind in Anki due to there being both production and recognition cards in the deck.
What would be more effective and less time consuming - doing a lot of cards in a few days to cover this difference, or just keeping it at 45/day and doing my mining deck+core on the side?

It might be because the average foreigner in Japan would look at them funny if they so much as said こにちは.

I think that it's kinda dumb to take offense. If they're deliberately excluding or alienating you on account of your ethnicity, then go ahead and get angry. Otherwise, just chill. Getting angry at this shit and trying to fabricate a structure that tries to tell people what they're thinking and not give them any room to argue back without using the very presence of disagreement as proof of guilt is an invention of the leftover feces of the civil rights era that we call the regressive left.
>>
>>139582072
Eh, I said nothing about anger. Just a minor annoyance, and the cost of being an expat in a foreign country. If it actually bothered me, I wouldn't have chosen to call this place home.

It's the whole mentality of getting angry at being treated differently on account of your background while disregarding context, intent, and severity. When you're constantly angry, you pretty much can't just sit on it forever. Sooner or later, you have to take action. In the case of getting angry at being treated differently based on your background, you either decide to stop getting angry at it or you decide that they're wrong for doing it and need to be changed. The regressives put together the aforementioned bullshit as a means for the latter, since just like with many other ideas that they push, the idea of casual racism and the solution lying with the "racists" falls apart quickly under scrutiny, so they came up with means to silence said scrutiny.

Slight annoyance without offense is a different matter, though.

I'd say you should just keep doing the 45 cards / day. Anki's algorithm only works over time, so it doesn't make sense to add a gigantic amount of Kanji you'll forget right away.

Or do you already know them from outside Anki? If so, then you could just 'learn' them all in a few days, it's what I've been doing with Core (60 cards or more per day because I already know ~80%).

>>
>>139583423
>why would you leave the prod cards in?
Not him, but does KD not do production or something? RTK urges using production cards instead of recognition cards.

Also 40 is pretty common and easy if you're not a beginner, so I don't know why you're putting him down when you were so impressed about that many cards. Only reason I don't do 100+ a day long term is because I don't want to do 1000+ reviews a day.
>>
>>139583614
The KD deck has two types of cards. The front side is reading+keyword and the other type has the kanji.
>>
>>139583614
I did prod for the first half of KD but then I realized most of the "meanings" were just his deformed interpretations from words the kanji was in and it reached a point where I couldn't stand it about 600-700 cards in, with his opiate or whatever the fuck bullshit he went on with.
>>
このスレは生存者一人も残さず墜落させることにしようかな
>>
>>139583728
Ah, no, I worded it a bit weirdly, sorry. I was wondering whether or not production was the "intended" method of review for KD like it is for RTK or if it's a frequent topic of debate / if there's a reason why production isn't recommended with KD for deck-specific or KD-specific reasons. I don't really see KD discussed as openly as RTK too often beyond casually mentioning KD itself.

>>139583799
Ahh, alright, fair enough. I forgot that the keywords are supposedly even worse than some of Heisig's weird ones sometimes. I've modified my RTK deck to include other kanjidic definitions and cloze vocab (usually try to get at least one word using its 訓読み and one word using its 音読み) anyways though so those problems with RTK don't really affect me.
>>
>>139583876
>>>/テレビ/
>>
>>139583892
There's a really cool deck that has some decent kanji "meanings", it's the All-in-one kanji with 6000 cards in it, you can turn that into a hardcore prod deck with some card tweaking if you insist on it.
>>
>>139583975
If you mean the RTK deck with the koohii stories and stuff, yeah, that's the one I used as a base for my RTK deck. I added a field for the 6th edition index, fixed missing/broken keywords, did some color coding to help point out when the story/Heisig keyword doesn't match any of the kanjidic definitions, and I added cloze vocab to every kanji in RTK1 6th vol (or at least I think I have by now since I pretty much add them as the reviews swing by and I haven't seen a card without cloze vocab on it in a couple months) and add stories/cloze vocab/new cards if a card doesn't exist for all the new kanji I find while reading.

Didn't you just say in the same post
>They help slow you down and memorize some dude's mnemonics.

It's a production focused deck (no recognition card type) and some of the changes I made are inconsistent/arbitrary (like the color highlighting of the word sometimes not being used when it otherwise would be or the Heisig word meaning pretty much the same thing as the kanjidic definition but being highlighted anyways). Also have to fix the formatting because it's a bit buggy and cluttered as it is now. Lots of fixing up to do before I feel satisfied enough with it to release it and share it with other people basically.

If more people are interested I'll think about fixing it up soon-ish and uploading it when I get enough free time, but it's a highly personalized deck and a pretty large amount of the cloze vocab in it is stuff I found while reading and won't be as effective for other people. Someone developing an addon or script that automatically adds cloze vocab to the cards based on the contents of your vocab deck and pulling extra from a dictionary when there isn't enough in the vocab decks would probably be more effective.

>>139584157
I don't know. I personally feel doing production with RTK helped me a lot (esp now that I have cloze vocab in it), but I don't know how different KD is. Probably something people who have personally done KD would have to answer.

My dream RTK deck would be set up like this, using 明 as an example:

Bright
説めい - explanation
発めい - invention
あかるい - bright

*stories from Kanji Koohii*

My biggest problem with RTK was mixing up all the English keywords because so many of them are synonyms. I already know 6-7k words so having the vocab on the front would help differentiate many of them.

>>139584529
That's more or less what >>139584083 >>139584411 is (pic related), it's just that the highlighting of the Heisig keyword is really arbitrary, it doesn't have most of the RTK3 kanji done (just the ones I happened to find while reading), a lot of the cloze vocab is stuff I found while reading and isn't necessarily the most commonly used word for that kanji, and there's missing info here and there for fields that aren't the "main" ones for reviewing, so outside of cloze vocab, keyword, kanjidic definitions, and stories, I can't guarantee the rest of the fields will have complete info in them.

It also only has my additions for RTK1 6th edition kanji and ones I've seen while reading, so all of the other kanji that were in the deck are still untouched.

It's basically the same as running into a simple sentence in English that you know is so easy but still doesn't make sense.

Asking questions here is a perennial habit of mine and I see no reason not to do so when it will only benefit me. I've picked up the habit from koohii's thread of similar nature ("What's this word/phrase") but of course I'll have to wait for a longer for a reply than doing it here. Regarding this episode, I'm sure I understand a lot more than I don't understand, it's just a habit of mine to ask for clarifications for things that won't shut my mind up.

Is your problem specifics to expressions like "I was wondering if I can help" or that you can't parse / translate passive and causative in your head?

Potential is just can. It's not complex.

Causative is (私)は make (あなた)に do something (-あせる).

Causative passive is (あなた)は made by (私)に to do something (-あせられる)

Passive has the same ending with potential based on contexts.

Best way to learn them is to get 10 or whatever number you like of Japanese example sentences of the form you're having difficulty with, and try translating them yourself.

私は弟に魚を食べさせる

This is the season I finally get back into anime after a long break since I started learning Japanese.

I picked up 2 shows two days ago and another 3 shows yesterday and I'm starting another 2 shows today. I plan to keep up with around 15-20 shows this season.

Two things that will help me with this:
1. Read the threads on 2ch to see what people thought, will help me follow along through the parts that I didn't quite understand, etc.
2. Rewatch the previous episode every week, for example when episode 7 comes out, I would watch episode 6 & 7 back to back.

right now their apps are open only because they just did a server upgrade, they've been closed for awhile now.

I'm just offloading invites because Im at my cap.

Honestly theres a few things I wish they would do.

1: Increase freeleach standards. Giving free leach to everything labeled 1080p (which includes crunchyroll's "1080p) just lowers the value of maintaining a good ratio. There needs to be some rewards other than stickers and music for high ratios. If it were up to me If change it so only 1080p lossless became freeleach, since everything is 1080p on BD release now anyway

2: Autoban at a much lower hit and run, like 5 or so
