Not every Bandai/Sunrise series is a hit but their ability to score overwhelming sudden franchise starter megahits out of nothing and next to no expectations is absolutely uncanny when it works which seems to be at least once every couple years. It's the fact that they tend to do it without relying on any pre-established popularity in an era where almost all original anime IP's are crashing and burning while nobody else seems to be able to do this with regular frequency that tends to set them apart and make people think that everything they do is a hit.

Basically what I've learned from Cross Ange and Valvrave is the higher the number of the sub studio and the later it was founded the shittier the animation quality except seemingly for 8.

This is the studio that seemingly doesn't have to do any work to make money because they can just rely on their treasure trove of licenses and royalty makers. Virtually the only studio besides maybe Khara with Eva that is the license granter rather than the other way around. I mean while everyone else is scrambling to make shitty light novel adaptations they can just pump out some Gundam OVAs or whore out Love Live to some other company to use as a marketing tool and be fine. I fucking hate it though cause it means we barely get anything from them anymore these days. It's pretty much the worst animation I've seen come out of Sunrise since the really early 80's when they used to be practically mom and pop sized and needed to do co-productions with Toei like Combattler V just to have a prayer of seeing projects to completion. Considering they've barely done new on TV since I'm starting to get the impression that something went horribly wrong at Sunrise around the Fall 2014. Maybe some big producer or veteran quit or the mass reorganization by Bandai Visual fucked them like one anon suggested. I'm still planning on using AnimeJapan 2016 as a gauge since Bandai is supposed to have a decent sized panel there. Because it's shit. There are many reasons why it's shit, but for me personally it was the protagonist being unlikable. There are many stories across different media where you're supposed to dislike the protagonist, but in this case we're expected to sympathize with a protagonist that's an entirely horrible person.

In fact, none of the characters were engaging at all. They were flat, boring, unappealing and any attempt at characterization felt forced. Other than the aesthetics (which aren't revolutionary for the time) I have nothing good to say about this show. And that's coming from someone who generally dislikes all the negativity on /a/!
