The MC has interesting powers with concrete rules that make him powerful, but not overpowered. He's also not a sex-obsessed edgelord (a la Re:Goblin), or an otaku self-insert intent on using his new life as a second chance after wasting his first one (a la Mushoku Tensei). Plenty of people like LMS, we just don't talk about it because people always feel the need to hate on gook shit whenever it's mentioned. There really isn't much to discuss about LMS to begin with, as in you don't get much 'interest' on things outside of Weed's surroundings because the story revolves around Weed 96/7. Whereas in something like Overlord you can speculate all day about shit, with LMS the author can't even keep the consistency of how his royal road game works. Still fun though and I don't regret it one bit even if I know it makes no sense how you can skin/carve mobs when we already know they turn into grey light after dying.

Id was great, but the whole magazine going out of business and the novel going on hiatus or whatever really killed it. Oh and once again it's gook shit, but it was received better than LMS cause everyone loved that two page spread of Canta leading the goblins and orcs.

Plenty of people do, but also remember this, it's a game where NPCs can die permanently. NPCs don't respawn. Even nameless mobs that die, don't come back the same. Like that fucking squirrel over there? It's not the same one as the one you killed 5 minutes ago. Even the early chapters show this with the wolves knowing because their parents or grand parents were hunted down by Weed.

So for most people, it's pretty worthless to invest in NPCs unless the benefits are obvious.

The reincarnation stuff, probably not because it's a very convenient way to shoehorn in an unaware protagonist that needs everything explained to them for our benefit. If you had a character who was actually from that world, they would already know most/all the relevant background knowledge and the author would really have to bust their ass to worldbuild well enough to get the reader up to speed. Most writers are lazy, so they pick the route of least resistance. Also, everybody loves a "fish out of water" scenario or an underdog story, and reincarnation tends to involve one or both of those.

The MMO shit is probably from the popularity of SAO, which is unfortunate because SAO (and most of what it spawned) doesn't even do it well. It's a cool idea that is abused and misused to the point that it should just be retired for a decade to recover. The NEET/hikkikimori shit is shameless otaku pandering so they can self-insert and pretend they could also be handsome and successful with zero effort someday, and I can't really say that will ever really leave. Anime and manga thrive off of pandering, and lowbrown pandering like that is easy money.

What makes an OP protagonist interesting is how they interact with the world around them.

Tensei Slime? It really falters at the end. The battles MC's subordinates get into become the main interest since the MC becomes way too varied. MC gets "challenged" sometimes, but he's never really in danger (I'm speaking on the latter part of the story). It was fine when he was putting down enemies around the time he started becoming godly, but yeah. The problem with the MC was that he never really settled on a "theme" on his fighting style except for generic sword skills with magic attacks mixed in during the times he had to fight like that. Rou remedies this by mostly not relying on his abilities and just using his regular fighting techniques, supplementing himself when necessary. That's stylish; overwhelming superiority at his base, with his absorbed abilities raising the hurdle whenever somebody gets close to matching him.

Also, I mentioned Tensei Slime's later entertainment coming from the MC's subordinates, but there's a big problem with them too. They never face any competent enemies. The top tier ones, I mean; the "lower" ranked subordinates are still overwhelmingly strong and do meet their matches a few times, but the top barely ever face any desperate situations that they couldn't handle with some composure left. Everyone else pales in comparison to them, even the other Demon Kings. It's fine since some of them are cool, Shion, Diablo and Zegion being my favorite "OP" characters (the latter 2 more so than Shion), but you can really tell that the author only really focused on making the protagonist's group interesting. The abilities of the other Demon Kings can be rather bland (though it's cool when they're brought to extremes, like Gii, the dragon girl, or the giant's abilities' simple, but extreme) or ineffectual.

Anon, it's a part of the setting. He's a super soldier, an enhanced human, one among a number who are sent planet to planet to subjugate disasters. Rou died, not because he couldn't handle getting stabbed, but because he couldn't resist anymore after the first cut.

The knife killed him because it stunned him and prevented him from getting away while Aoi pureed his flesh. That's it. It's a stun gun and a knife combined into one easy to use yandere package. It emphasizes the futuristic setting of the world Rou was from, that something like that is considered to be safe enough to sell to the public like the military equipment capable of being sold to the public right now.
