New chapter is out. Through what OP means with MC win this time?
Please, Ive been following this manga ever since /a/ found it and its bad dude.
Like really bad, im still reading it, but its fucking bad.
Its like reading Bleach, I just wanna see what happens.
Eh, for me it's not "harem school romcom 78541" or "cookie cutter shounen redux" like most shit /a/ obsesses over. I love that it's bad and just fucking runs with it. It went all in with a completely, stupidly OP MC.
>Eh, for me it's not "harem school romcom 78541"
No, "it's reincarnation fantasy overpowered self insert 98001"
It's not original at all, and even if it was, that doesn't make it any good. Even most of the dreck /a/ likes to read is at least a little better.
well it is but the RFOSL craze is not nearly as old so its more people pissing over what one they like best the op guy reborn to be op again or the lol 30+ wizards reborn to be real wizards.
It has been the fastest to saturate the market in the last year thats true but i'll take it over the idol group moe crap and things are now cute girls anime any day of the week.
Which does /a/ prefer?
Currently of this "genre" of self insert reincarnation/otherworld fantasies I have to say my favorite is probably Isekai Tensei Sudoku.
The MC is not overpowered at all, no videogame bullshit, and everything's comfy and low key.
He just has 2 other souls in there with him, and he uses their knowledge to his monetary advantage.
he's a lil overpowered to be honest.
but back to re:monster. holy shit Rou is a bipolar asswipe. he made the redhead hunt the Kobolds for sport last chapter and now he's acting all buddy buddy with them (helping them against enemies which he accidentally released in the fucking first place too)
The premise was honestly good.
Shit grew tiring when he tried to justify fucking the humans and create his harem.
It was out of nowhere like a bad pornflick, as in the author suddenly made space just for sex scenes.
Soon thereafter it became Playing God 101.
For selfinsert fantasy faggotry, I personally like the Cheating Word Magic something something forgot the title but it has the word Cheat on it.
>Elf-san's Circumstances With an Ogre
Reminder that he just got another new wife too, with possibly more on the way.
This isn't even that overused of a cliche. I'd take OP Mary Sue over Beta SelfInsert-kun any day, since I am being forced to choose between cliched scenarios anyways.
Ìf an op alpha Chad reincarnates into a different world and chads it up there, is it really a power fantasy.
I mean the guy was already topdog prime breed material before he reincaranted.
He is the type that the target demographic (NEETS/Otakus) usually hates.
So is it really a power fantasy if he just does what he usually does in a different world.
I mean usually it is some loser who reincarnates into some god mode hero who everyone loves.
Doesn't the fact that he already was like that before his death make it harder for the target audience to self insert?
Dude he is seriously overpowered, he's been trained by his mom since birth, and she's literally the equivalent of an entire goddamn army. His "skill buff" is what makes him overpowered even more.
He beat a seasoned career general at age 11.
>This isn't even that overused of a cliche
He's talented yes, and he's been receiving the best education. But his mom is ridiculously stronger than him, and he fucked up really bad with the situation in the farm.
By Reincarnation Fantasy Tripe standards, he's a paraplegic puppy.
This manga always cracks me up by how shit it is
Kumo desu ga, Nani ka?
all the fun of grinding and all the harem bullshit happens to side characters
Problem with Overlord is MC being autistic, insecure, stupid and indecisive. He is surrounded by edgy kids who only exist to worship him. And all of them are absurdly overpwered.
Nah, he's stronger than the shield hero guy or the mushoku tensei guy. His mom is probably one of the strongest people in the world, since she acts as a nuclear deterrent to the surrounding kingdoms. The fact that one of the mercenaries she used to fight with acknowledged the guy the MC faced comparable to his mom (who is demon god-tier) just shows how fucking strong the guy the MC took down was.
He's overpowered but not invincible like some of the isekai tensei genre protagonists.
Really? That's why I read it. The guy trying to live up to his subordinate's expectations despite being nothing remotely godlike on the inside is precisely what I find interesting.
The powerwank is just filler for me.
>The guy trying to live up to his subordinate's expectations despite being nothing remotely godlike on the inside is precisely what I find interesting.
Same. I always enjoy the internal monologues of him having no fucking idea what to do, but having to put on a confident face (kek) for his subordinates that view him as a god.
The author forgot that women are humans too.
It's even better when they also have to hide the fact that they're weak, and win by bluffing
>dnd rolling a goblin
>has an unnecessary op power unrelated to goblins
>center of attention of all the women
>character becomes a tentacle raping monstrosity down the line of his adventure
>has first pick of all the mindbroken women
>throws aphrodisiac around like candy, where did he even get this power anyways
as much as i hate to admit it, he's pretty spot on, this is your average dnd session
Stockholm Syndrome is a bitch. If anything, the fact that the women pulled such a 180 made them seem more human to me, because who wouldn't try to satisfy their terrifying goblin captors for their own safety?
The first 10 volumes of Bastard! are actually drawn from a dnd came the author and his assistants were playing.
I enjoy overlord since MC is not the only one being super OP in it.
Granted he's the most OP, but his subordinates are pretty god tier themselves and have no need to be carried.
More stories should do that, it's a pleasure to see.
Isn't Stockholm Syndrome where the victim thinks they really have feelings for their captor? I was under the impression it was a subconscious thing, not them actively trying to deceive their captor.
The MC from Ore to Kawazu-san is so overpowered he doesn't even powerwank because he's big bang level powerful, but that just leads him to get so bored that he decides to invent the internet because he wants to shitpost.
I like this manga, recently restarted again (was on haitus for health reasons apparently).
It's basically One Punch man meets any of the re-incarnation series.
>it'll be years before the manga gets to the delicious brown giantess
I'd say Spirit Migration. I've only read the manga so far, but I think it's great.
The MC has interesting powers with concrete rules that make him powerful, but not overpowered. He's also not a sex-obsessed edgelord (a la Re:Goblin), or an otaku self-insert intent on using his new life as a second chance after wasting his first one (a la Mushoku Tensei). He's just a sweet guy who likes to help people.
Also: no harem bullshit. At all.
He got a girl to fall in love with a dog, and now is working on another with his bear form.
He basically keep getting near death experience saiyan style every time he shoot a bow, and that keep making him stronger and stronger and almost compare to Godlike level or something.
but then he still almost lost to someone 1000 levels lower because muh power isnt everything.
It is powerwanking but I like it, mostly just how Tomoe modernize herself.
I like how he tried to kick the demon dog in the first chapter and flew right through it he was so strong. Also how the goddess gave him the ability to talk to nonhumans as a joke so he would have sex with them is so funny.
>all those pictures of Alphapolis' manga upscaled with waifu2x/bilinear
Holy shit, someone tell Alphapolis to give their webmanga higher resolution and start delivering kindle version of their tanks on amazon for fuck's sake.
No, I like it
It's amusing how much of a glorious bastard the MC is. Despite the fact that he's so OP and the plot is non-existent, it remains interesting because he's always finding new and creative ways to fuck with people
Dunno about digital but the physical tanks can completely change your opinion on some of the manga.
The New Gate has some very good art.
Yeah, I know I have the tank scans (which are not that good by the way) for The New Gate. I just find retarded that whoever TL those manga ruin the art by upscaling the pages.
Alphapolis have to wake the fuck up, they seems stuck in 2004 for releasing x700px webmanga. At least it would be cool if they could release x1600px ebooks for their tanks.
And people read kumo which is also shit, atleast Re Monster has a real story to it.
The one with the two girls getting corrupted was great. Plus he got a dullahan out of it for his troubles.
I like the art, flawed as it may be. Don't really mind the plot since power fantasies tend to have none. The world building is indeed lacking, but reading through the later volumes, I am hoping that this will be rectified. If not, then I'll just enjoy the ride as best as I can.
It's not hard to be better than Re:Monster.
As always, I'm the only one liking Legendary Moonlight Sculptor. Probably because it touches my inner Jew.
Another power fantasy novel/manga that never gets brought up is Id. Twist here is that MC gets teleported from eastern fantasy land to western fantasy land.
Plenty of people like LMS, we just don't talk about it because people always feel the need to hate on gook shit whenever it's mentioned. There really isn't much to discuss about LMS to begin with, as in you don't get much 'interest' on things outside of Weed's surroundings because the story revolves around Weed 96/7. Whereas in something like Overlord you can speculate all day about shit, with LMS the author can't even keep the consistency of how his royal road game works. Still fun though and I don't regret it one bit even if I know it makes no sense how you can skin/carve mobs when we already know they turn into grey light after dying.
Id was great, but the whole magazine going out of business and the novel going on hiatus or whatever really killed it. Oh and once again it's gook shit, but it was received better than LMS cause everyone loved that two page spread of Canta leading the goblins and orcs.
>Most popular mmorpg
>expected to believe he is the first and only one autistic enough to min/max power level and rp with npcs, (a game designed to reward you for rping with npcs at that)
Now thats hard to swallow
He wasn't actually, I don't understand where you are getting that impression. He just happened to get involved with a unique class that leads him to all sorts of unique chain quests.
Which is no different from other hidden classes, but so far we know of no one who has a unique class like he does.
He also has the huge benefit of being in a class that has virtually no competition because starting out as anything other than his unique variant would mean it's suicide to continue. It wasn't even a class that could be obtained when you started at launch since the place it was in had to be explored and opened up, and by then you would be too high level to give a shit about such a location, thereby missing out on it.
If you wanna talk about hard to swallow, there's like a billion other things.
>Weed somehow has the life time experience of probably 10 people or more
>Weed literally has 4x the amount of time in real life just as he does in Royal Road
>People enjoy doing menial labor jobs while paying over 300$ per month subscriptions
>People don't try to complain and bitch on the forums to vote with their voice like all MMORPGs do and are content whenever things seem unfair
>Beauty is practically objective in this series and not one person has ever claimed Seo-Yoon wasn't the most beautiful girl they've ever seen
The list goes on and on. Don't pick at something that's not an actual problem just because you haven't read far enough or paid attention.
I recently gave this manga a try and holy shit the writing is worse than a self insert MLP fanfic written by a 12 year old autist
a shame, the concept and art aren't bad. unfortunately everything else is terrible
sooo... what do you guys like about it enough to make a thread with more than a hundred replies?
Not compared to Geomchi1 going through a war with a sword in his hand when the setting of the story is literally the future where America and friends use remote controlled robots.
For me it's more along the lines of watching a house fire with a bunch of other onlookers. Morbid curiosity. Plus I dropped it when the wiring somehow got even worse, and check /a/ to see how far this trainwreck screeches along.
>atleast Re Monster has a real story to it.
I wonder who,s behind this post
Spirit migration MC does get an automata body, then there was that nice fantasy manga about a robot going around with a disguised human child in a world where monsters won the war to look for her parents.
This whole manga feels like I'm watching someone's boring Let's Play. They just won't shut the duck up and instead of getting on with the main quest, they're just playing the sex mini games in the main hub.
haha thanks for the laff m8
good to know this all is in good fun
I'd climb out of a grave for her.
You mean how he grinded in the starting area to obtain maximum stat gain before leveling can take place? That mmo autism 101. Then he played cook during an npc raid and power leveled hard because he rped really hard, to which no one else in this game does because they never take advantage or interact with the godtier ai. How is this not among the problems in your list? Your points encompasses the points i just made. Weed is written as the only one that seems to know how to exploit the game mechanics despite having only the most basic of video game experience from some shitty f2p runescape clone where he just right clicked shit mobs for decades.
Will we ever get a reincarnation series where the protag ends up in a world with roguelike game elements? It would involve constant dying and munchkining his build further in every incarnation.
>gets to the final boss
>all the build up and suffering is at its peak
>gets wiped and his love interest he made this iteration dies with him in each others arms
>when he revives, the falls to his knees and mourns skyward since has to restart without her
Re:Zero something something something, ridiculously long name something.
The closest I can think of.
Not really reincarnation but more of a guy somehow teleporting to an alternative world.
It's not that no one knows how, it's that no one thinks it's worth while. For every Weed that got a quest through hidden methods like that there were tens of thousands of people who did the same shit somewhere else and got nothing for it then bitched on the forums.
That's like saying people would try to explore a raid dungeon for secret passages despite alpha testers and top guilds already having gone through it and the raid dungeon is already considered old content.
You're retarded if you think people who pay 300$ a month would do shit like that. People don't even do that with 15$ a month or F2P.
And like >>138885732 said there's plenty of others who succeeded, they are just rare because the majority fail for whatever reasons and give up. Imagine doing the exact same thing Weed does except you're not in Rosenburg Kingdom's capital. What would that get you? Nothing but the 40 stats and some free food from the instructor.
Your logic is based on existing MMOs where everyone can experience the same shit. What do you think happened to the people who tried to imitate Weed grind 40 stats and befriend the instructor at his starting zone? Oh wait, absolutely nothing because the LMS class was already taken and there's only one damn handkerchief so no one else would get to talk to the sage.
Your rationality is baseless like comparing Ultima Online to World of Warcraft.
my friend recommended it to me. I asked him how it was and when he described it, it sounded like op mc bullshit. Curious, i read it myself giving it the benefit of doubt. Holy shit, this magical realm bullshit. The mc literally fucked more than half of the female cast. Its easier to count the ones he hasnt fucked
>The mc literally fucked more than half of the female cast. Its easier to count the ones he hasnt fucked
One of the reasons I like it.
MC is strong and fucks what he wants and when he wants.
Not like most other reborn shit where they are ridiculously powerful but are still huge pussies crying at night while fiddling their diddling at night under the blanket.
That obviously doesn't excuse some of the other shit in the manga, but it is one of the things that make me keep an eye on it.
>$300 a month
>not playing this game to its utmost
Considering how widespread the game it, this was an arbitrary number to exaggerate weed's risk and resolve. You are underestimating the mmo community's autism if you think they dont minmax for the initial 5 points in whatever. Besides, i didnt mention the secret class at all, what i mentioned is how this near sentient ai is ignored by nearly everyone but weed
It wasn't ignored, people just didn't waste time because all MMO communities focused mainly on personal progression. Who the fuck would spend a year in game befriending a level 30 NPC when you can hit level 100 in that time and move on?
You're also exaggerating MMO autism, there were thousands of people who grinded that shit just like Weed if you wanna zero in that specific point, and that's a pretty realistic number considering how many people even min/max in MMOs nowadays in regarding the whole population.
There's nothing preventing them from going back to it later either, many people would see the logic reversed, spending time leveling can allow you to reach limited quests before others and therefore get you advantages that other people behind you wouldn't and you can just grind those 40 points later.
I shouldn't even need to point out how lordship of cities and shit for guild wars works. You can grind those 40 points for a month if you want, but someone else can get the connections to hire an army so he can take over a village to jump start his kingdom. Hermes guild practically symbolizes this logic and they have profited far more than Weed so far ever since RR was launched.
What do you think most people are gonna prioritize? Guaranteed profit or gambling on possibilities? Doesn't take an autist to figure out what most people would choose.
RR is a game where you can get +stats just from eating different food. Why the fuck do you think those 40 points are some magical irreplaceable benefits? So far we don't even know if there's a god damn level cap or a stat cap.
By your logic everyone who plays melee should be going to the Geomchi dojo, because otherwise you're gimping yourself in combat. If you're not at least an MMA world champion with 1500 APM your priorities are wrong.
The sentient AI isn't as complicated as you think it is for most people. Re-read the early volumes before Weed becomes top tier fame level, guys like the Pope would talk to him about quests and shit but then just stop once his dialogue runs out and the situation becomes awkward. That's fucking Weed, the biggest brown noser in the story.
People in MMOs can't even control themselves in chat, how the fuck do you think they would control themselves when interacting with NPCs? It's not like they can just press 1 of 4 buttons like FO4 and get the expected result, everything from wording to tone to gestures etc affects it, so how would most people find out about the unexpected results?
Those who do, how many would share in a game like this? What are Dark Gamers for 500?
>try to get a quest
>not good looking enough
>some scrub comes along but looks hot
>gets the quest you wanted
It's a pretty discriminatory game anon. I bet there isn't even one nigger ranker cause even the bandits and monsters would think he was trying to mug them.
Well, All You Need is Kill is sort of like that. I only ever watched the Edge of Tomorrow (American adaptation) though. MC has to die over and over against a near invincible enemy just to make incremental progress towards saving humanity. It's pretty neat, and Tom Cruise is actually pretty good in it.
It's not a parody. You're mad because he's ridiculously OP, but that's the entire appeal of the story. The author took something silly, turned it up to eleven, and ran with it.
I was craving some martial arts and tried Bu Ni Mi.
Not too shabby, I must say. But with this release schedule I'll almost certainly end up dropping it.
You dont think that an mmo that mimics real body movement wont have people going to a gym solely for a sparring practice for the real world? There would be people lining up for this type of service. If you said that this was early in royal roads lifetime, i could believe that there wouldnt be many people trying minmax, but for a game where theirs so much stat gain everywhere, for a different and well existing mentality, thats entirely plausible. You got me on hermes guild since i stopped at some point. Maybe i shouldnt have said exploited in terms of the ai, but more of the player to npc interaction
Literally how? The dude was a pussy slaying alpha in his home world with godlike powers he gained through defeating and eating hundreds of other super powered ubermensch, which is the opposite of what every faggy otaku beta is going to want to self insert as. He's the opposite of a self insert for most people, even if it's a power fantasy.
That's what I like about it. He's a literal alpha of the pack, to where even other species can't help but be overwhelmed with his majesty. He's not a cowardly pussy, he's not a pacifist (but also isn't an edgy "kill everything for no reason" character either), he's not an omega that won't touch women. He's the exact opposite of the maximum cringe self-insert bland beta otaku MC virtually every other series like this has when they are reincarnated. It's refreshing.
>"it's reincarnation fantasy overpowered self insert 98001"
It did take a slightly novel twist on it
An overpowered MC reincarnates as a weak monster with his previous life's OP ability
Consumption-for-skills is overdone though
>You dont think that an mmo that mimics real body movement wont have people going to a gym solely for a sparring practice for the real world?
I never said that can you fucking learn to read? I said the majority wouldn't, which is exactly the case of RR.
>If you said that this was early in royal roads lifetime
That's exactly the case when Lee Hyun starts out. Even when he was late one year, the game had only been out for a little more than 2 years. The rankers at the time were around 300s and as of the latest chapter translated the highest level is Bard Ray who hasn't even hit 500 yet despite almost 2 years passing by.
The moment Weed hits the Hero's Tower the amount of people who finished the 40+ stats grind hits 6 digits, whereas when he first cleared it, it was merely 4 digits. What are you fucking complaining about?
>You got me on hermes guild since i stopped at some point.
This is your huge problem then, cause a lot of this stuff gets addressed later on in a very very casual fashion so that it's seamless. It's one of the few redeeming things about the series, yet since it doesn't bash you over the head with it, coupled with how MTL-tier most of the translations are, people tend to just forget about it. That isn't even counting how much retconning there is or contradictory information which like I said is what you should complain about, cause there's lots.
>Maybe i shouldnt have said exploited in terms of the ai, but more of the player to npc interaction
Plenty of people do, but also remember this, it's a game where NPCs can die permanently. NPCs don't respawn. Even nameless mobs that die, don't come back the same. Like that fucking squirrel over there? It's not the same one as the one you killed 5 minutes ago. Even the early chapters show this with the wolves knowing because their parents or grand parents were hunted down by Weed.
So for most people, it's pretty worthless to invest in NPCs unless the benefits are obvious.
How's the other shit from that author?
Isn't it getting translated?
Funny how character like Kirito and this MC are the polar opposite at almost everything besides power, yet both are self inserts.
I'm pretty sure people believe a character is an self-insert if he can defeat pretty much all of his opponents.
Flame Ring is pretty nice so far, no one is translating the third one as far as I know.
>Funny how character like Kirito and this MC are the polar opposite at almost everything besides power, yet both are self inserts.
What does that have to do with the fact that they're both mary/gary stus?
Got it, going to check Flame Ring then.
>two chapters every time
Why not make it weekly and one chapter every time? Well, not that it makes a difference. Thanks.
And another cover since the artists choices are great.
It has some neat art and designs and the action scenes are well-done, so might as well spent the 3 minutes it takes to read it. The story's so braindead you barely even need to read it in first place.
>The New Gate has some very good art.
It's passable alright, but honestly considering it's a monthly, it's pretty subpar. Then again most of these LN reincarnation powerwank adaptation manga have subpar art.
For some reason, I kept thinking about TNS LN illustrations and not manga, and was discussing with that in mind. Then I realized how hard I brainfarted. The LN illustrations like the cover art really helps that generic character design look good, though I can see where the manga fails to do the same, it's more like a generic moeblob version if nothing else.
Was reading some xianxia cultivation shit.
Nerds really are alike all over. They might have a good premise for a story, some interesting characters and a neat gimmick.
But they are shit for characterization, development, and keeping the plot moving forward at an okay pace.
They also keep forgetting shit that they introduce, but insist on adding to the laundry list of bullshit.
I've been here seven years, my statement is entirely accurate. /a/ largely has shit taste when it comes to series it actually discusses.
>Because he's so blatantly a self insert for the author
The author is a super powerful ubermensch with women tripping over themselves to get to him? People like that tend to not need to self insert.
>I've been here seven years, my statement is entirely accurate. /a/ largely has shit taste when it comes to series it actually discusses.
I don't think anyone saying Overlord is better than 99% of anything has any right to be talking shit taste.
Will fantasy series ever depart from the reincarnation/MMO/NEET bullshit? Even ones without MMO/reincarnation aspects, they'll still make the MC a NEET or some reference to modern Japanese culture (see: Monster X Monster). Dungeon Meshi leads me to believe that they might be on the way out, but you never know.
I'm not even sure anymore to be honest.
I never said Overlord was better than 99% of anything.
The reincarnation stuff, probably not because it's a very convenient way to shoehorn in an unaware protagonist that needs everything explained to them for our benefit. If you had a character who was actually from that world, they would already know most/all the relevant background knowledge and the author would really have to bust their ass to worldbuild well enough to get the reader up to speed. Most writers are lazy, so they pick the route of least resistance. Also, everybody loves a "fish out of water" scenario or an underdog story, and reincarnation tends to involve one or both of those.
The MMO shit is probably from the popularity of SAO, which is unfortunate because SAO (and most of what it spawned) doesn't even do it well. It's a cool idea that is abused and misused to the point that it should just be retired for a decade to recover. The NEET/hikkikimori shit is shameless otaku pandering so they can self-insert and pretend they could also be handsome and successful with zero effort someday, and I can't really say that will ever really leave. Anime and manga thrive off of pandering, and lowbrown pandering like that is easy money.
To be honest anon, I do see the charm of ReMonster, I myself fell pretty hard for it when it started. But eventually I just could no longer kid myself about how bad it was.
And while I'm defintely a sucker for the concept, it's gotten so overused it's kind of making me sick.
>Instead of Slashing, piercer
Lol this fucking page
Reincarnation genre could be totally interesting if they just keep away from the whole self insert aspect.
Imagine a story about a game NPC reincarnating into the real world and having to deal with the whole concept of freedom and not being locked to a single vocation/ limited lines of dialogue. It could make for some actual decent character development and plot.
But that would require actual effort and plot editing instead of just the author braindumping as many trope ideas as he can manage into a single chapter.
>But that would require actual effort and plot editing instead of just the author braindumping as many trope ideas as he can manage into a single chapter
DESU you could say that with almost every genre. While I hate the squandered potential here, it's far from unique.
Regarding Overlord I actually like how it shits on a lot of tropes like mah princess, nakama power, op bitch protagonits, Smug genius sworsmen etc, that you find in tons of reincarnation and non reincarnation LN's.
As long it itself doesn't fall to the tropes I think I'm going to enjoy the ride for a long time.
As long they do away with the edgelord tryhard bullshit that is poisoning overlord I am okay with it.
>Also: no harem bullshit. At all.
Except he does have a harem and it's really obvious. Just wait for later chapters or for someone to get off their ass and TL the LN.
Weapon shop uncle
Ryouriban Mercenary Food Corp
8th Son somewhat but it's pretty boring and outside of killing 2 dragons he doesn't do much
The Preceding Hero Wants to Retire kinda fits this but he's just on the lower end of OP
>This whole thread
I hate how /a/ has become tumblr 2.0 with a hint of reddit now
Does anyone whats going to happen with this one. Heard it got taken off narou because of silly parody song so the author is having touble uploading or something.
I wonder what are the chances of it getting published now anyway....
>Through what OP means with MC win this time
Nakama power ofc.
I like this for what it is. Although I admit I do prefer Goblin Kingdom a bit more.
Whats up with the butthurt comments and hivemind though? Like nobody wants to discuss this kek.
Think someone said he started posting it to his Pixiv account until he gets it sorted out which might be never as he's done it a few times before.
Not much to really discuss about it or any real intrigue or plot to pick up on.
Is Goblin Kingdom any decent?
Starts of the same as this, however he's not as op as Rou and has to depend on the subordinates, he trains them and uses tactics in large scale engagements later on. Tries not to get manipulated by godesses and other shit.
Does mildy make you think of Kingdom manga in terms of battles later on or well basically a mix of this and Kingdom. Nothing amazing but it's pretty decent for me.
Goblin kingdom have much slower powerlevel progression rate and MC starts at literally nothing with no special powers. There is decent amount of characterization for everyone involved. Also lore feels like Greece mythlogy.
What the fuck was the autor thinking though
>Look, the MC is a weak goblin with only his memories to rely on, isn't that interesting?
>Oh except he can rank up so he doesn't have to stay a shitty goblin
>Oh did I say goblin? He's a special BLACK variant who is way better than a normal one
>Oh and also he can learn the skills of any creature he eats as long as it has been dead for less than a day or something.
>You know what forget I said that, he can just eat whenever and still get the powers why the fuck not
>>Look, the MC is a weak goblin with only his memories to rely on, isn't that interesting?
Said memories are of him being Superman level entity through eating and 2nd best space cop in an entire galaxy.
The interactions with the previous generations are funny
Sorry for the sample, couldn't find any decent illustration
99% of the reincarnation/transportation novel
>Loser MC (bonus points if he constantly mentions his age)
>Dies a dog's death (bonus points if truck-kun appears)
>Reincarnates/is transported into a fantasy Medieval Europe (bonus points if they talk in Japanese)
>MC spends his childhood learning magic 24/7 (reincarnation)
>MC gets a cheat skill that makes him OP
>Registers in an adventurer's guild every fucking time.
>Guild ranks using alphabet letters
>Guild master meeting MC in the first day
>Goes to an inn and gets explained about how currency works: copper, silver and gold (somehow its worth the same as Japanese yen)
>MC is humble and wants to lay low by hiding his skills
>Forms a party/harem with beautiful adventurers from different races
>Slavery is a common thing
>Racist not-Christian church
>Beastkin are most of the times girls with fake ears and tails
>MC has to defeat the evil Demon lord even if he doesn't want to get involved
>Item box/warp skills (bonus points if he's the only one with said skills)
>Wasting pages trying to make the other drop the honorifics
To me, it's no different from Ryuuroden,
Kekkon Yubiwa or Konjiki
>MC is hack
>you know he's going to win
at least it's been fade to black situations, not like that one that's basically Overlord Edginess Unlimited
That's the reason I like Ogrelord. Strong from the beginning, doesn't need to earn any money or equipment nor any new companions who lust over his dick. There's no demon lord either (since Ainz has basically taken over that role) and he also does not give a fuck about katanas or rice.
Your saying Ogrelord made me think of a story like this
>Reincarnated as an Ogre
>Not necessarily OP, just an unusually smart Ogre
>Becomes the lord of Ogres in an Ogre Mountain doing Ogre things
Ainz does need to start earning money and food as well since Ainz does not have unlimited Ygg gold and Nazarick does cost money to operate.
Also, if any Guardian dies, it costs like 600 million Ygg Gold to revive.
Also, the author did circlejerk about katanas once.
And the strongest guardian wears a kimono and is implied to be more Japanese looking than every other NPC.
Also, the author repeatedly has outsiders make a very big deal over how exotic looking and beautiful looking Narbe is, thanks to her Japanese looks.
So don't pretend that Overlord doesn't have any Japan wanking at all because you can't even deny it.
>A 30-something virgin guy dies, realized he's reincarnated in another world.
After growing up, he's had encounters with stories about heroes and magic. Feeling thrilled with this, he tried learning magic and swordplay but it was all in vain. He had no talent.
Reaching adulthood, he became a traveling merchant. Hiring adventurers for security. He mainly deals with materials he use for inventing stuff as his personal hobby.
In his travels he still loved hearing about the stories of adventurers. Like that story about a girl with a coffin looking for the dismembered parts of her magician father, or that story about a hero with only a shield, or that story about a mysterious Tomb no one dares to enter.
Because according to Brain, you can only buy katanas from the city that lies nearby the 8 Greed King's remaining base and Brain was a smelly hobo after his katana broke so he didn't have the mental strength or money to travel to buy a new katana.
Reminder that Rou would die instantly if he lifts a finger against KumoGOD.
>The cunt sister of the Demon Lord in Katahane
Hooly shit. Such a useless seflish bitch does not deserve her position. I bet her brother was just a sis-con and didn't really give a shit as to whether or not she was worthy of leadership.
Actually the page I just posted is one of the tank scans that I cleaned for typesetting, the available raws aren't that different from what I'm used to seeing scanlators work with.
The artist has great technical skills and superior grasp of dynamic movement. The art is very good. Mediocre art is something like Hero Union BBS. Just because the only manga you've ever read is Berserk, doesn't make everything else "mediocre".
Vampires should be sexy .
>gets killed by jealous woman
>in his next life immediately starts having tentacle orgies with every woman that shows the slightest bit of interest in him
I don't know if he's an idiot or a genius.
>And was stabbed in the stomach
>While it hurt it didn't seem like something that'd kill me.
>With some treatment, it wouldn't even leave a mark.
>After all for work, I underwent surgery to become a strengthened man (boosted man).
>Aoi was using a B Rank Electrified Knife, The "NENEKARURI".
My god, if this author is older than 13 than this is so pitiful I can't even complain. I'm just happy he has an income and isn't such a burden to his aging parents that he'll get sent to the Btooom! island.
It's just manga returning to it's proper roots.
But at the same time adjusting to be compatible with moe culture.
Eh. Read it. You've got bad taste. This manga epitomizes the flaws of OP MCs. He's a feminine bishie (which makes him "attractive" to all sexes, at least for guys like us), thick headed when it comes to relationships, possesses minor and seemingly unrelated skills that help him tremendously in his new reincarnated life, and just HAS to always be in the moral right in any conflict.
The only interesting bit comes from the mecha. How they're constructed and put into use on both a general and personal scale.
Man, anon. He was talking about the stab wound itself. Mentioning the kind of knife that was used to stab him was the caveat for why he couldn't survive.
It's been a constant that weapons don't have to be at the absolute top of the tiers to be able to kill powerful monsters/humans. Rou and his party use equipment within the range of 4th-3rd from the top rank of equipment.
Are guys so used to beta moeshit that you have to dislike this manga so much? I mean sometimes it feels like a masturbatory journal but the setting is really interesting, you actually want to know what happens next.
Theres worse stuff out there like that one about building a dungeon so it amuses me how much hate remonster gets.
The author gave us a ranking of the strongest beings in Nazarick in Q&A and when it came to the guardians she was ranked 1º. But you do have a point, she's the strongest when it comes to combat, for example Albedo is the strongest when it comes to defense but overall Shall is the strongest.
Just because your turd stinks less than other pieces of shit dose not change the fact that it is still shit. It get more hate because people keep on parading it out in the open and letting stink up the place so we hate it more than the shit we are not smelling.
>Man, anon. He was talking about the stab wound itself. Mentioning the kind of knife that was used to stab him was the caveat for why he couldn't survive.
"It took me by surprise and I died."
That's literally all you need to write. Not about how he's so STORNG and MANLY than only the LEGENDARY BLADE OF WOE could kill him
Just because Rou isn't beta doesn't mean he's a good character
>Theres worse stuff out there like that one about building a dungeon so it amuses me how much hate remonster gets.
Because nobody cares about that Maou trying to build a dungeon. And just because there can be worse stuff doesn't mean ReMonster is good
>Going with rook
>Getting her followers killed
>Acting like a haughty bitch
>Just bolting like an idiot
>Being useless in a fight
>Sending Riku to Human Island of Doom on a whim and a rumor.
>That's literally all you need to write. Not about how he's so STORNG and MANLY than only the LEGENDARY BLADE OF WOE could kill him
Every author should do the same as him for their reincarnation novels
>I got ran over by a car
>I would have been fine if weren't for the car being laFerrari
>likes characters getting power ups by sitting cross-legged
What makes an OP protagonist interesting is how they interact with the world around them.
Tensei Slime? It really falters at the end. The battles MC's subordinates get into become the main interest since the MC becomes way too varied. MC gets "challenged" sometimes, but he's never really in danger (I'm speaking on the latter part of the story). It was fine when he was putting down enemies around the time he started becoming godly, but yeah. The problem with the MC was that he never really settled on a "theme" on his fighting style except for generic sword skills with magic attacks mixed in during the times he had to fight like that. Rou remedies this by mostly not relying on his abilities and just using his regular fighting techniques, supplementing himself when necessary. That's stylish; overwhelming superiority at his base, with his absorbed abilities raising the hurdle whenever somebody gets close to matching him.
Also, I mentioned Tensei Slime's later entertainment coming from the MC's subordinates, but there's a big problem with them too. They never face any competent enemies. The top tier ones, I mean; the "lower" ranked subordinates are still overwhelmingly strong and do meet their matches a few times, but the top barely ever face any desperate situations that they couldn't handle with some composure left. Everyone else pales in comparison to them, even the other Demon Kings. It's fine since some of them are cool, Shion, Diablo and Zegion being my favorite "OP" characters (the latter 2 more so than Shion), but you can really tell that the author only really focused on making the protagonist's group interesting. The abilities of the other Demon Kings can be rather bland (though it's cool when they're brought to extremes, like Gii, the dragon girl, or the giant's abilities' simple, but extreme) or ineffectual.
She had no other way to talk with prophets. Sometimes things just don't go as planned and Rook abused meta knowledge. When did she act like a bitch? Why do you think goverment figure should be a fighter, that's just silly. And Riku have highest chance to retrieve crown, it's not on a whim.
I should add that all of the chinkshit other than I Eat Tomatoes is also trash. I can't get enough of IET even though his stories always go to shit half way through.
They get power-ups cross-legged but it's usually after they get into some fight where they barely survive by the skin of their plot armour.
>>I got ran over by a car
>>I would have been fine if weren't for the car being laFerrari
Authors could then go on to explain why the tire patterns allowed for MAX death, and if the driver had been using different older tires he would've ducked and rolled and been fine.
Man, you guys are pretty misinformed. Rou's far and away from doing that. Rou could definitely create a noticeable scar on the continent, yeah, but he's not even at the foot of the power Demigods have yet. I mean, he's well on his way to achieving that. People can definitely become gods in this setting, and Rou wouldn't be the first one (the forest he's living in having been blessed during the Apotheosis of an elf). It's just that all the stronger beings and figures of myth are from the distant past and the level of strength has deteriorated in present times (the Demon Emperor and Beast King having inherited their strength from their ancestors).
Anon, it's a part of the setting. He's a super soldier, an enhanced human, one among a number who are sent planet to planet to subjugate disasters. Rou died, not because he couldn't handle getting stabbed, but because he couldn't resist anymore after the first cut.
The knife killed him because it stunned him and prevented him from getting away while Aoi pureed his flesh. That's it. It's a stun gun and a knife combined into one easy to use yandere package. It emphasizes the futuristic setting of the world Rou was from, that something like that is considered to be safe enough to sell to the public like the military equipment capable of being sold to the public right now.
>all these LNs
>humans are the bad guys
>monsters, demons are good
>She had no other way to talk with prophets
It blatantly says she was smitten with rook, too horny to see the obvious trap and got all her people killed.
Speaking down to Rook about his naivete when she was ready to suck his cock if not for a jump scare making him react and stop seeming so "saintly" as if that made his argument any different and she shouldn't have seen through it immediately and hypocritically ignoring her own faults.
>Why do you think goverment figure should be a fighter
Fair enough, but in that case, don't drag a fucking swarm of the enemy towards those who WILL have to take the burden of fighting. At least try to loose some.
>And Riku have highest chance to retrieve crown, it's not on a whim.
She doesn't know that. It's entirely on a whim. There's no hard evidence the crown is even there, and there's no evidence that Riku can get it with a paltry force any more than any other powerful Demon. What about Leivein? He seems to have a hardon for her AND he has wings. Surely a small airborne force with such a powerful and experienced leader would infiltrate an island better than a small army on merchant ships. Of course, Riku will succeed because she's the MC, but still, there's no reason to expect her to pull something off.
It's a good read, anon. I'm confident in my knowledge that guys like you who hate it have shit tastes anyway.
Like Overlord? I do too, man. But what DO you like about it? Your answer will probably cement my confidence in how shit your tastes are. So many idiots bringing up Overlord on how to do OP protags "right", but damn. How retarded there reasons can be for liking his OPness.
>there is actually people still reading this shit
>walls of text and HOURS spent discussing to defend this shit
Christ guys probably even the author themselves are hating this work and do it just to pay the bills
you have no fucking excuse
The thing is stuff like that can be fixed with what they have and because Rou was enhanced above normal humans.
It's an extra setting, to appreciate the move between a sci-fi setting to a more fantastical one. Rou was the protagonist of a whole different story close to the top in his story, before he got erased from that one and copy-pasted to a new story. Since then, Rou has been translating parts of his culture's technology into his new home.
All you can focus on is the fact that it's mentioned at all and that it doesn't play any "further part" in the story. That's autistic. It's an extra detail to accent the shift between genres.
The only reason stories ever do anything like blaze through the details of a character's death is because either they're not interested at all in who the character was or because it's too mundane (these two pretty much often overlapping with each other). Sometimes it's to hide particular details of their pasts so that they can reveal some "deep" facet of the MC's character later on, but this technique is often misused.
Rou's past IS important, not because it's important to current events, but because it explains his own character and how he came to his current mindset. He wasn't always a badass, there are reasons why he can easily kill and eat those of the same race as him, and he's always been twisted enough that, in the same way that his attitude can seem sociopathic at times, he also doesn't mind similar deviant behavior directed at him.
The problem many people here have is that they're looking for a power fantasy, but they're also looking for a way to explain how it's not a power fantasy to other people because they're embarrassed by such things, like the protagonists being "challenged" by much "stronger" beings that they have to "work" to overcome. Just because something can be a power fantasy, that doesn't mean that's all there is to appreciate about it. Rou is interesting as a character for his interactions.
Pretty sure it was never said she liked Rook. She believed him at first because he was abusing his meta knowledge on what to say to make her believe. The moment he lost his confidence she realized how stupid it all is kinda like what happened at pig fortress.
How the hell she could lose enemies chasing her especially with her not being fighter?
More like readers don't know if there is any evidence, Riku doesn't know it. It's not like literally anyone can just barge into royal castle and start spilling bullshit. And why do you think he can fly long distances, what the fuck. So far no one was able to fly at all in that wn.
I wonder if Raku will be killed by her own father after he will find out about Rook failing because he follows her plans.
It's easy to write and it's not really for your benefit, anon. Guys like you will always whine. But the fact that you can't really put up any proper reasons or responses is to help guys without confidence like you, but who enjoy the story. I mean. At this point, all you can really do is continue to say it's shit and that it's stupid for anyone to defend it. Considering that I'm obviously the type of person who argues with reason, you're pretty much offering yourself up on a plate for me. I don't really need to feed my ego, but making fun of yours is a pleasure.
Just like you guys want to complain, there are others who want to put you down for your weak reasons for hating stuff. We're a perfect circle, anon.
>Pretty sure it was never said she liked Rook.
Riku notes more than once how blatantly smitten she was with Rook, and she let him off real easy, essentially keeping her rout open for him
>How the hell she could lose enemies chasing her especially with her not being fighter?
Run faster, change your rout, cast some magic. What, is she literally fucking useless?
> And why do you think he can fly long distances, what the fuck. So far no one was able to fly at all in that wn.
What makes you think he can't? It's literally what wings are designed to do and he is shown falling from the sky many times. As in, flying.
I'm in the mood of removing non-human scum.
>Applying real life logic to literal demons in a magic fantasy world
Her older brother was the fucking Demon Lord, do you think he was useless too? It's not unreasonable to expect demonic royalty to have considerable power and be more than just an ornament.
Speaking of cringe, ultimate antihero was a good one for that. The dude is seemingly the only male in existence because every girl he meets has absolutely zero resistance and falls for him after 2 minutes of teasing.
Okay, guys. Give me an example of a good, likeable OP MC from treansported/reincarnated novel.
Rou... I just don't like him as an MC. Don't know why.
Slime tensei was OK until he boasted his power at the tournament. I know that was to intimidate people so no one would attack his homeground, but still.
Death march was OK, but he's getting on my nerves ever since he became a noble and solve everything.
Kumo is OK because shiraori a cute.
Tsuki michi is still OK, the MC still don;t know his power well and strugles every battle. That was the same with Death march at first, so I hope this one doesn't go to the same direction as Death march.
Anri is OK. The series mostly comedy anyway and just pure fun.
Rudeus is okay, as long as we don't talk about that deleted chapter with Aisha/Ars.
>Rudeus "Rock Bullet" Greyrat is okay
Eliza is fine so far, Tilea is okay if you fine with that kind of comedy.GobKin MC isn't exactly likeable, but you can sympathize with his actions more or less.
This Eliza. Also if you want OP likeable MCs 2 mangos with no LN translation were posted in this thread. Ore to Kawazu and Isekai Tensei Soudouki
Another otome protag, probably is going to die of overwork by the time she's 16. There's also the manga version of that Duke's dughter thing Estellion is translating that might be cool.
>The artist has great technical skills and superior grasp of dynamic movement.
No, hell no.
And hero union is ASS, not mediocre. The NG artist is better than most other LN adaptation discount mangaka, but he's really only passable.
>Either LN writers are really fucking bad as a whole, or translators make them all worse.
Not "either". It's always a combination of both. Just not always to the same proportion.
Pretty much every novel I read had some shitty part that started making sense only after some /a/non translated it properly after I complained.
Not him but you guys haven't read many reincarnation novels, most of the times the author explains they write in kanji. In medieval europe with german nobility names.
You mentioned berserk. That's pretty great. Lots other artists have "great technical skills and superior grasp of dynamic movement."
Sorry, but New Gate isn't drawn by one of them. He's okay.
Well sure, but you know that even if it's being translated poorly, you know it's not the translator's fault some dipshit spent 2 paragraphs describing how the MC remembered what a horse was.-
Ah so you're a stupid snob with retardedly skewed standards? I see.
This is "ass" art.
Not true, One has "great paneling skills and superior grasp of dynamic movement."
See why you were stupid?
If you think New Gate is in the upper tiers of manga art, you haven't read much manga with good art, simple as that.
Didn't say it was upper tier, I said it was good. You obviously don't seem to understand what grasp of dynamic movement and technical skills means. Kentaro Miura does fine illustration and has keen attention to detail but even he sucks at things like grappling and anatomical consistency during fights. On the other hand Samura Hiroaki is probably the top of the industry for his technique and understanding of movement and presence in fight scenes. The New Gate has good art and you can clearly identify that the artist himself is properly trained.
I hope someday people will understand that realistic style in a manga doesn't mean it's well drawn. Like people who think Inuyashiki has good art.
>Didn't say it was upper tier, I said it was good
No, you said it was GREAT. It is objectively not.
It's okay, especially by LN adaptations standards since those are a sea of mediocrity. And considering it's a monthly, the artist is pretty slow on top of everything.
When did "great" start meaning god tier?
It's objectively pretty great. I feel like you don't have a very deep pool to draw conclusions from since the examples you gave have very disparent levels of quality.
>It's objectively pretty great.
No it's not.
>a very deep pool to draw conclusions from since the examples you gave have very disparent levels of quality.
Which was intentional. There's a wide gap between New Gate and the top.
New Gate has decent art, but it's really just not remarkable. Too many manga with much better art to believe so, in my opinion.
>The anatomy is heavily sourced from real life
>Deep inking used to mask any drops in quality
You're being tricked by the hatching and brush technique, it's pretty bad.
These fantasy reincarnation LN/Webnovel adaptations are the worst.
They are the lowest form of edgy, autistic, self-insert masturbation to be passed off as "anime" or "manga". They have no characters; they have masturbation tools for the "MC's" ego in the shape of anime people, with no agency or characterization. Even the MCs have no consistent motive besides continuing to powerwank themselves, as a proxy for the author/reader.
The only way one of these could redeem itself is if a hero character showed up and unambiguously wrecks and kills the protagonist and his entire retinue.
Monster collection is not better than new gate though. It's probably about even. New Gate winning by a bit. Just download the tankoubon raws and stop make your conclusion on the alphapolis upscale crap.
Uh okay. Whatever. You're a delusional lost cause I guess. Go to art school or something. Usually I say understanding art shouldn't require a diploma but in your case it probably does.
No really, nice try. It was a nice touch showing both mouths open to make them seem equivalent, but the New Gate guy can't draw skulls for shit, whereas the Monster Collection guy can.
Know who I like? Nogizaka Tarou. Gideon looks promising but I'm scared his daughter will get BLACKED by the antagonist.
Since when was drawing skulls the deciding factor in comparing artists?
Also I already told you to download the tankoubon raws, using the alphapolis version is just proving my point that you don't know what you're talking about.
>Why does anyone enjoy this crap
That's been explained a dozen times in the thread. Out of all the crap /a/ unironically enjoys despite it being crap, I'm not sure why this one is triggering so many /a/nons.
Stop, please, I already have nineteen web novels, LNs, and manga to get through.
>Since when was drawing skulls the deciding factor in comparing artists?
It's the deciding factor in your shitty comparison. The NG guy has nothing on Itoh Sei, sorry, not even in older work like Monster Collection, much less now.
Except the comparison showed 2 similar pages with similar poses, where new gate is drawn better. Taking information from other pages doesn't mean anything, since the comparison still holds up. One artist drew the exact same scene better than the other.
>xcept the comparison showed 2 similar pages with similar poses, where new gate is drawn better
Ah, so you are blind.
No wonder, you're very brave for not letting your disability stop you from shitposting about art, anon.
Sorry, you're right. Let me correct myself.
Retarded anon says anything that isn't Berserk tier art is beyond redemption shit tier art.
Which is funny because at the same time he claims that Sanctuary has great art because he's a retard who believes that more realistic art is automatically better than stylized art.
>Former revolutionary anti-establishment author turned erotic novelist
>Has a cute daughter and his childhood friend is a trap
Is this shit like self insert for 18th century sans-cullotes?
Welcome to WN/LN threads, there's no coherent theme and the thread starter only serves as window dressing.
Right? When I made it I thought it would die after there was just a couple of people saying they hated Re:Monster, but then it spiralled off into a general OP MC and WN/LN thread. Literally nobody talked about my OP, but I can't say I'm complaining though, it's a good thread.
Nothing happens: the chapter
Looming threat turns out to be grinding, the boss isn't menacing in the least. The only mildly interesting event in the latest chapters was warriorgirl taking the Noir-something job, because it'll force her to become corrupted. Also, if they ever reach peace, girl dies.
Overlord's art shits on all those series mentioned.
It's not being an elitist snob to point out the majority of MCs going at length to complain about no rice, soy sauce and miso soup
or that in said western fantasy people use japanese honorifics and use japanese terms and terminology
Or converting fantasy monies to yen
While I agree that those retarded cliches are annoying, I think the guy was referring to Re: Monster specifically, and it doesn't do those things really. Well, it might do the honorifics but I don't really notice if it does.
I want to know what the next this and that is and I want to see more of him being the best.
The last two are done of the reader's convenience. The first one is just author stroking his Japanese dick. They should really stop with that shit.
Thankfully neither of that is done in the OP. He only complained bout no alcohol.
New chapter is out
>He wasn't proposing
Wow, fuck that guy
No idea, it's just that every post is absolutely cringeworthy. The translator of Kuro no Maou is almost the same, but his biggest problems are his horrible English grammar and the donations he receives for "sponsored" chapters.
for me it's still Mushoku Tensei
Rudi is ok, but I love all the other characters two. They aren't just there to praise the MC and are probably a lot more OP than him (especially Orsted and Eris).
