At this point I imagine their 'friendship' is probably a running joke in the studio. Hibiki and Miku are basically written as the male protagonist of a toku show and his highschool sweetheart girlfriend, except they're both girls and only 'friends'. It's comical because they constantly do romantic couple things with each other and say romantic couple things to each other with this limp-wristed "n-no homo" context that doesn't feel like it holds any water when they're staring deeply into one another's eyes while embracing intimately and sharing epithets of how they are the moon and the sun in the sky and their only reason for being.

They'll probably continue to make them do couple-like things onscreen and continue to fail to undermine it by insisting that it's maybe probably somewhat just a friendship. I'm betting they'll be a 'not-date' episode in one of the coming seasons.

None of the characters in this show are gay.

I dunno about that. One of the things I like about symphogear is that things aren't dwelled on for too long. Sometimes shit that literally came up in that episode is resolved right in that episode where other anime would have it resolve in 10 eps, constantly reminding you of said ordeal.

In fact, a current example is IBO, with Kudelia's "oh man i suck" shit. 23 eps later, and It's not even clear if that's resolved yet.
