Is it just me, or is Ichika the most worthless protagonist of all time? He does not deserve any of the attention he gets.
look at all the pussy he COULD be getting. but no. the cunt is denser than a neutron star
Not really. He was actually pretty cool at first, then the author got lazy and started writing him like a generic harem lead. Also, the girls only like him because of their own particular neuroses. For most of them he was just in the right place at the right time.
How else can an omega otaku self-insert?
Because let's face this, harem shows like this are no better than Twilight, if not exactly the same.
I've never really thought that was the appeal of harem shows. It always seemed to me that the protagonist was incidental, a prize for whichever girl the viewer wanted to root for.
There's the sister complex thing and then there's the fact that not picking most of the girls would cause them to go after him in a mecha and kill him. That's just devil's advocate though.
Why would he want to go for the other girls?
Pick Chifuyu, no one can go against Chifuyu.
>best selling school battle harem of all time
I know there are a lot of gender neutral names in Japan but given the number of popular female characters named Hinata you'd figure the name would fall out of popularity for guys.
Kind of like how Ashley did.
It usually happens that the first is not the most successful. Oreimo, K-on, IS, SAO, etc.. are the spearheads of their respective fads even if they weren't actually the originals.
>Not really. He was actually pretty cool at first,
This is the same song everyone sings when they want to try and convince anyone that their harem protagonist is any better than the others.
>everyone of them bitch are crazy with machines that can actually murder me
>choose one and the rest goes more crazy with machines that can actually murder me
Fucker just wants a bro, but he's surrounded with teen girls. Nee-san or Dan routes are the safest routes.
No, this is the downgraded version.
Houki still has a pair of Chifuyu's most important assets.
Judging by volume 10, it seems that Madoka is some kind of failed experiment, which likely suggests that Ichika was the successful one, and why Madoka tried to kill him so she could "be herself".
Not that dark, but it's something to start off with.
Yeah, pretty much. He was better in the novels, at first, but the author got lazy pretty quickly and stopped bothering to characterise him as anything other than a generic harem lead.
It was better than S2, though it still had way too much dumb bullshit for my liking.
Admit it, this was the only reason you liked it.
I'd actually bother doing it, for a start. He HAS a character established early on, it just never gets referred to anymore.
Guess I'd just play it up some more. Inferiority complex, unwillingness to burden others, desperate need to be useful, chasing an impossible goal, all that jazz.
> turn ichika into emiya
He kind of already is in some aspects?
But his entire group with the exception of Houki, are specially selected representatives by various nations. Not exactly fair, since Ichika was suddenly thrown into the mess without training.
Although it would be nice if he improved faster.
>the weakest IS fighter in the entire group
Actually, that would be Houki, until her sister juiced her up on the sly.
What he has going for him is largely that he was in the right place at the right time for these specific people.
Yet you are a fan of the lascivious mary sue archetype?
It was probably the best animated IS thing. Not like it's worth much praise but they definitely put a bit more effort into it than the rest.
Hang on, I'll fetch the list:
>Ostensibly more attractive than everyone else
>Better than everyone at everything (except sewing, maybe)
>Outfought a supersoldier in CQC
>Everyone likes her
>Everyone finds they can't get mad at her, even for shit they'd kill anyone else for
>Fucks with everyone for own amusement constantly
>Openly flaunts rules
>Chastises/punishes others for breaking said rules
>Head of secret organization
>Knows behind the scenes stuff, chooses to remain mysterious and vague
>Sister has complex about not measuring up to her
>Actively interferes in sister's life to ensure all her accomplishments are actually Tatenashi's own
>Thinks this is a good thing
>Sister just learns to nut up and accept this (also treated as a good thing)
>At least one scene per chapter where the narration sings her praises
>Smug as fuck
>Real name is "Katana" (no, really)
>Proper IS rep (not candidate) for Russia
>No connection to Russia at all, was so sought after that she basically got to pick which country she represented
>Implied that she could switch countries anytime she felt like it because they'd just be that glad to have her
>renamed her IS from Russian to Engrish
>IS uses NANOMACHINES SON
>IS has other character's special abilities, like Laura's AIC
My introduction to her was in the novel, where she's made worse by dint of narration, but yeah, not a fan.
All she ever does plot wise is get worfed! The only thing she can reliably accomplish is stirring up trouble for other people and exacerbating her sister's inferiority complex in an attempt to fix it.
>Electronic Brain World
At least it gave us Jetstream Chifuyu.
Tatenashi is sluttiest, but Charlotte was the only one ever to be disqualified for excessive lewdness.
The current position of weakest fighter is hold by Cecilia unfortunately. Not her fault the show misrepresent the effectiveness of long range weaponry like that. But yeah, until further progress she's the glass cannon of the team.
>Everyone finds they can't get mad at her, even for shit they'd kill anyone else for
Lots of other points already make her fucking insufferable but this one is just plain insulting. Truly one of the worst examples of Mary Sues that had came out in recent years. Medaka is modest and Haruhi a timid girl compared to this. It's like a combination of plot armor and writer boner.
It's refreshing to have a show where the MC isn't completely OP compared to everyone else, but IS is like the complete opposite. The MC in this show is a massive pussy that can't do shit by himself.
As far as skill, I'd say it went something like:
Laura and Charlotte are both very focussed and efficient, and seem a roughly even match for each other (which says a lot about Charlotte, considering Laura's background).
Rin and Cecelia both have candidate training and personality weaknesses, but Rin edges Cecelia out due to the latter's inflexibility; she has no answer to close-in opponents.
Ichika and Houki both started from scratch, but Ichika had higher aptitude and showed a real eye for combat that could prove impressive in time. He's promising but completely held back by inexperience.
Houki kind of sucks. She has low aptitude and spends the whole tourney fight getting shot. She needs a bleeding edge machine and a sneaky nanomachine supplement to break even.
Mneh, Haruhi isn't really a sue because it makes no bones about her being a shitty person most of the time. The biggest indicator of a sue is their character flaws either not being acknowledged as flaws, or not being acknowledged at all.
>that can't do shit by himself.
He does have a massive character centric complex about that that informs most of his behaviour, whenever the writer remembers (which isn't often).
Not lying this is true. I even like Houki but its glaring she need a lot of special treatment just to catch up with the others. Not her fault really. She's a really strong person, sadly that doesn't immediately translate into a strong pilot.
Houki is a rather fascinating character, really. She's an absolute shit with an unhealthy fixation, but the reason's why she's an absolute shit with an unhealthy fixation are kind of understandable, even sympathetic. The poor kid just needs some actual friends, and for her sister to drop off the face of the planet.
8 novels in and he's still useless?
I actually was thinking of picking up the light novels but if he just stays a useless bitch the whole time I'm not so sure.
Girls are great though.
Read the first...three, I think. After that the author completely defaults to anime!Ichika. He's stayed a useless bitch the whole time because no fucking progress has occurred the whole time. Pretty much just constant fanservice and the occasional abortive tournament.
The best way to experience the series is Yuuki Homura's manga, since it's basically a highlight reel of actually reasonably well written parts of the novels, with some further additions by Homura.
It's okay. The real OTP is pic related anyway.
If this was a better series Houki would eventually accept she's not as good pilot as the other girls but will find her own way to support Ichika then will realize her sister's manipulation and put a dent on her plans by rejecting the Aka Tsubaki. Tabane then decides to kidnap her own sister to force a Damsel in distress situation just to keep the bond with Ichika strong.
The regular manga is an adaptation of the first anime series, and is basically the same.
However, there is also now a reboot manga of sorts, distinguished from the other one by appending the author's name (Yuuki Homura).
Unlike the series' actual author, he actually gives a shit, so his manga has thus far retained some of the more character related stuff that was cut from the anime, while trimming the fat a bit (there's a lot less physical 'comedy' of the girls attacking Ichika, for instance). Like I said, it's basically a condensation of the novel's better parts.
Oh, but thus far it only goes up to mid-Charlotte arc, so there's a lot of novels it hasn't covered, it's just that most of them were increasingly lacklustre and lazy. It's quite likely Homura will fix that though, which is why we're all so fond of him.
That, and he's a massive Chifuyafag (though he doesn't let it impede).
Pick one. The writer wrote him in a lot of training and still failed to properly describe how his training paid off.
Now convince me that the recent Ichika is no longer the same one in volume 1.
Well, he made a pretty good showing of himself against Autumn, considering the apparent difference in experience.
This isn't really an argument I would ever have though, because you're trying to put me in an indefensible position. Things don't change in Infinite Stratos because the author doesn't want to handle anything besides status quo.
I think Ichika has potential because scenes like the Cecelia fight show he can be remarkably observant and intuitive. He lasted longer than anyone else she'd fought despite his inexperience and his unit being on factory settings, identified the disadvantage of her drones and then picked apart their patterns with remarkable ease. He only lost on a technicality because he rushed off half cocked like an idiot and didn't know how is machine worked. If someone like that knew what they were doing they'd be an unholy terror.
Now, it'll never happen, because nothing ever does in IS, but as long as the series remains in stasis, so does his potential. That's my reasoning.
He's actually come up with relatively little new material. He's mostly just excised stupid bullshit to make what was already there stand out more.
Like his snark:
>'Ah, how I will be executed. You know, Houki, the problem with murder isn't what's before, but after. The human body is composed of slightly over 50kg of lipids (fat) and proteins. It also includes about more than 10L of blood. After that are the neglected bones in the skeleton. In fact, the discomposure of the upper part of the skeleton is quicker. Isn't it different from what we think? That is why most people are puzzled. For the analysis of the skeleton a considerable amount of experience is needed, and if you do it one by one, a lot of time will be wasted. That's when the freezer comes in to play. The freezer...'
>Oh my, this voice definitely belongs to Chifuyu-nee. Immediately, the tune of Darth Vader played in my mind without a moment's hesitation. On a side note, there's also another tune in my mind. It's called the Terminator.
His surprising maturity:
>Never mind, that is nothing. I grew up living with Chifuyu-nee, so I don't have that feeling of 'I'm living with a girl! My heart is beating like crazy! I'm so nervous!'. Besides, I handled many years of Chifuyu-nee's dirty laundry, so I'm not going to panic just because of a piece of girl's underwear.
>If I don't know something, I have to honestly admit to it. It would be to my own demise if I do otherwise and want to try to maintain a good standing
>Being able to use an IS means that the person will become part of their country's military. Thus, IS pilots are held in high regard, and currently, only females are IS pilots. But the difference between that and flaunting power is that if the power is begotten through violence, it's just a tool for violence.
Or his compassion.
Ichika is actually pretty cool when he's allowed to be, it's just that he's portrayed in the anime as a cookie cutter harem protagonist.
Replace Ichika with a superior character voiced by Kouki Uchiyama.
Damnit, wrong picture...
Surprisingly the tsundere who's obviously going to win is not only not worst girl, but is fairly likeable and useful.
You've obviously never seen Kampfer.
Don't bother watching it either.
The only reason Cecilia is considered the weakest is in comparison to Ichika's upgraded IS which comes with a beam shield. In practice she can't do anything since all of her weaponry save for the few missiles she has is all beam based.
And there was the part that pissed me the most about S2: ignoring the fact Cecilia actually had to train and learn how to beam bend a la Strike Freedom so she could at least come up with a Pyrrhic victory against Madoka. But no, they have to show a random shot of her blowing up the city without establishing any context, and also have her job 10 seconds in at the last major fight.
I applaud Krul because for once we have a flat character in a harem who isn't bitching about being flat.
I think you've got the wrong guy. The only girl I don't like is Phi.
>Season 1 started over half a decade ago
No one will ever beat him.
She's good in SS and 4koma. It's so unfortunate (especially since she's BASED OFF THE AUTHOR'S WIFE).
She has the best SS (Ichika wipes her down when she's sick and he actually blushes and says he liked touching her chest).
It's even brought up in her drama CD when the roles are reversed. It's the closest post-characterization Ichika has gotten to breaking his density.
Also, she and Ichika are bros in the 4koma.
It doesn't stop increasing numbers of them chasing his dick in the credits though.
If I was ichika I'd be far to scared to make a move on any of the girls, they're terrifying and even though it's played for slapstick these girls attack him and even try to kill him with their superweapon mechs.
The poor fool must spend his days in a cold sweat wondering when his day will come.
I honestly couldn't stomach the show after the first episode of season 2.
Did it ever become anything more than "Dense protagonist gets caught in sexually charged situations with qts"? I know they had a bit of a plot going with the mech like suits, but it was so bare minimum. I was hoping for some more elaboration on that.
At least the action was good.
Barely, the author of the LNs has to be dragged kicking and screaming to advance anything (plot, character arcs, romance) so everything usually just ends with everything going back to normal with a new girl added to the harem that goes nowhere.
Those are the ones that hurt the most. The ones that could be saved with just a little effort.
I was considering taking some concepts (both setting and character) and making a video game with them.
She has a shitty voice but her body is the best of the bunch.
Except for Chifuyu.
All the girls operate under the assumption that Chifuyu is their biggest obstacle in the Ichikab owl and keep complaining that they seem to act like a wife and husband (Ichika is the wife).
Also Ichika was ogling Chifuyu when they were at the beach in the anime and Char noticed.
I'm going to but in to say the dub is better because they at least did the accents for the girls countries.
I didn't like her, but she's not actually that bad once you realise that she's actually capable of being surprisingly mature and levelheaded (see her lecture at Houki during Silver Gospel), she just deliberately acts childish because she's still clinging to the past.
All of that was after she got a handout of a cutting edge machine through nepotism. Her original aptitude was C before Tabane got her mits on her.
And despite this she's still only on par with everyone else, including the girl with a customised mass production model.
But if NIPPON STRONK, then why is Char so obviously superior?
>not liking the qt megane otaku girl
tbqh famsan she's probably one of the more unique characters in the show. Or at least managed to stay that way. She's practically the only one that hasn't degraded into a violent tsundere yet.
Her character arc was fine, intriguing even (having a complex from being constantly measured against a Mary Sue). But she's just kind of an extra, and the thing the series needed was more focus on the characters that it had, not a bunch of new ones.
>shy megane otaku girl
Not really. She's different from the rest of the cast, so much is obvious. We already have violent tsundere, childhood friend, ojou-sama, and what not; so the only missing part was the shy megane girl. Doesn't mean there was a need for her: she's just there, fulfilling no purpose.
She acts whatever way suits her and never gives a shit about other people's feelings, which is why she's unprepared for being caught on the back foot.
And fuck you, by the way, for reminding me of that scene.
>MC is a loser in every way possible except one thing which make's him unique in the whole world
>All the girls lust for him because he was once nice to them
Fucking shit harem shows
He feels everyone is too good for him, it's kind of his deal. Charlotte's supposition that he's not dense and is keeping them at a distance on purpose may have some truth to it.
To be fair, the reason why that's enough for them is because whole cast is seriously maladjusted and in dire need of therapy.
>MC is a loser in every way possible except one thing which make's him unique in the whole world
To be fair, the only thing that makes him a loser is his allergy to girls.
He's an alpha when it comes to everything else. Which admittedly isn't much when the anime revolves around harem hijinks.
He seems especially alpha when it comes to guys though.
IS would have been a much more interesting series if the obvious hints had turned out to be red herrings, Charles was actually male, and Ichika was gay for him. Cus everything between them up to that point was pretty dang homoerotic, and a series about an MC trying to conceal his gay lover from his harem isn't something I've ever seen before. It would have been novel, at least.
Charlotte is so best pilot its not even funny (still not best girl in my book though). In a more serious fandom there would be a never ending debate about how well Charlotte will fare against Tatenashi if she possesed a cutting edge model like her and Houki.
>a cutting edge model
I'm not really sure how much it'd help. Cutting edge models tend to revolve around hi-tech gimmicks, like Ichika's sword or Cecelia's drones. Charlotte excels at the basics; she doesn't do fancy, she just has a weapon for every scenario and she knows how to use them and when.
yeah, Ichika is a lightweight pretender to the throne of density Natsuru sits on.
>IS would have been a much more interesting series if the obvious hints had turned out to be red herrings, Charles was actually male, and Ichika was gay for him. It would have been a GREAT series if all the girls didn't love him on site and instead generally hated him, but through a series of misunderstandings he grew to believe he had a massive harem forming, turn the whole dense protag thing on the head and make it actually funny. That would fit with the homolust going on with a male char.
Nah, at least he's not this faggot.
I only just noticed that there were some new chapters, I haven't checked in a while.
Hey, this is pretty neat. Houki wanted to find 'her own path to strength', yet here she is accepting handouts to give herself a handicap. What went wrong? She's lost her way. Again.
Welcome to the dark side of the moon, where Infinite Stratos is actually good. We hope you enjoy your stay.
>What went wrong?
4 chicks started going after her man's dick. Except he's not her man and she doesn't want his dick. But she still wants him and his dick. But not if anyone can hear, entirely off the record dick wanting.
There's something very ironic about all this. Houki hates her sister, she's the root cause of all the misery in her life. Yet she still caves in and accepts her borrowed power (which is almost certainly bad news) because she's not quite got the conviction to stick to her own pride when there's the possibility of losing Ichika. But you know it can only end badly.
Man, in a better written series, Houki would be a great tragic character.
Well, I wouldn't know, I haven't read that. If it's bad there, then it could still be great in a better written series.
Anyway, it's nice to see her neuroses get some play as actual neuroses instead of standard tsundere traits.
Houki should realize she don't need her sister's gifts and dong the light she seeks. To be the best person she can be and be proud of herself so she can be honest to Ichika without doubts. Right now she's just piling excuses and clinging to Ichika to escape her shitty life.
This past trauma is so fucking stupid. Yumizuru has like no fucking idea how kendo works.
It's like nearly fucking impossible to seriously injure someone in kendo without breaking the rules. It's ridiculously regulated for a martial arts.
And if Houki is angsting about giving others minor injuries in a sport revolving around swinging fucking wooden swords at other people then she's a moron, it's inevitable people are going to get bumps and scrapes in a sport like this. If she doesn't want to bruise people she should've taken up Go instead.
Cry me a river.
She wasn't talking about physical injury. Her issue is that she started to vent her pent up frustrations with her life through hitting people with sticks, and ended up fighting to beat her opponents rather than win against them, which isn't very sportsman like and is certainly undignified for a samurai kind of girl.
Essentially, she's angsting about the fact that she's become a shitty person: a violent thug that hits other people to make herself feel better.
>Replacing that wiener with Kanye
Every girl in that academy would become pregnant in a fortnight.
>clinging to Ichika
It's actually a little worse. She's clinging to the *idea* of Ichika, who in the intervening years has become this perfect magical panacea who will solve all her problems and make her happy. Since he's obviously a fallible human grappling with his own issues, the disconnect makes her even more angry and unstable. She's on a downward spiral.
She wants to stand by Ichika, but she can't do it since she's weak.
Would they, though? Kanye has failed to impregnate Fiddy so far.
It's harem show. No harem show has the guys deserve the attention and devotion they get from girls. No, being nice isn't a goddamn rare trait. I don't buy it that the female characters have never in their lives met a guy of their age who was polite/nice to them. It's just not possible
Except you can't fucking "beat" people in kendo, the match stops as soon as someone gets a single hit in.
No repeated bludgeoning or any nonsense like that.
Kendo is like the worst sport to show someone as a violent brute.
Well, most of this was in the novel to be fair.
>In those days, the only thing she hadn't given up was kendo, for she felt that kendo was the only thing that linked herself to Ichika. But even though she won the national championship, it didn't really satisfy her.
>The reason is fast and simple. That's because kendo was 'just a way for her to blow off steam'.
>--She just wanted to beat anyone down into the ground.
>That's right, that was what she thought.
>However, the blade is a mirror that will reflect her expression, and once that extremely ugly look of hers heavily struck back to her, she was so mortified that she felt like she wanted to leave the prize award ceremony.
>And what drew her into deeper despair was when she saw her opponent cry after losing to her in this state.
>--What was I doing...
>Her actions were just violence, not strength. Strength doesn't refer to this, and she knows of this...very clearly--that's what she thought.
That's her delusion. She's weak but she thinks becoming strong means being a powerful IS pilot and thus keeps swimming against the flow. She's already a meaningful person in Ichika's life but cannot realize that due to all those doubts. Her thoughts are too merit based.
>Kendo is like the worst sport to show someone as a violent brute.
You've seen Houki, she could totally manage it. She's violent brute all over.
>I don't buy it that the female characters have never in their lives met a guy of their age who was polite/nice to them. It's just not possible
These ones all have exceptional life circumstances that left them fucked in the head and bereft of affection.>>138870435
I think it was less that she was actually beating them like a redheaded stepchild and more that she was so aggressive and short tempered that she was scary enough to drive the other kids competing to literal tears.
Can anybody explain to me why melee weapons on an IS are a good idea, let alone making IS with ONLY melee weapons?
Isn't that kind of like mounting a bayonet onto a jet? In what situation would two jets ever get close enough to use them?
To give the protagonist his cool special snowflake IS and show how awesome he is because he can win even if he brings a knife to a gunfight.
Oh wait, Ichika still jobs like 80% of the time. Nevermind.
The arenas are tiny.
Rather, why the hell is Cecilia using a sniper rifle at such close distances?
IS are more maneuverable than jets, so giving them melee weapons is slightly more feasible, but the idea of giving an IS only melee weapons is still retarded.
I think this is another example of katanah stronk that the Elevens are so fond of.
Well, shields mean that at the least they're no less powerful than guns, and Cecelia is proof positive that leaning entirely on ranged weapons in an IS isn't smart.
Byakushiki is kind of hyper specialised towards Chifuyu's preference, which as you say, is kind of crazy, and only the sort of thing an advanced operator could pull off. This is why Ichika keeps missing with it all the time.
So can someone provide me some answers?
Last thing I know about this series is watching season 1, and that the LN author was crying about stuff in real life.
>Has he stopped lamenting his problems? (I don't even remember what he was crying about).
>What's the current story in the LN and is it still good?
>Is Charlotte winning or is Houki really still the one?
>IS are more maneuverable than jets
If so then why the entire military status quo molded around IS reshaping the world's entire power balance? Just use jets to storm the damn things.
>and Cecelia is proof positive that leaning entirely on ranged weapons in an IS isn't smart
No, Cecilia is proof that having an IS rely entirely on energy weaponry isn't smart when someone with anti-energy bullshit arrives on the scene.
>Has he stopped lamenting his problems? (I don't even remember what he was crying about)
>What's the current story in the LN and is it still good?
It wasn't any measure of good since volume 3. Basically fuck all has happened. There was some kind of festival, Tatenashi fuckery and recently a student turned out to be with Phantom task, though the last two volumes are untranslated.
>Is Charlotte winning or is Houki really still the one?
Charlotte will never win no matter how much she should because the author doesn't know how to break from type. Houki still a shit.
>Byakushiki is kind of hyper specialised towards Chifuyu's preference, which as you say, is kind of crazy, and only the sort of thing an advanced operator could pull off. This is why Ichika keeps missing with it all the time.
No it isn't, even Chifuyu thinks it's fucking stupid and points out that ranged weapons BTFO close range ones any day but since the only thing Ichika is good at is swinging a sword he might as well use it.
I meant when Ichika beat her. Once he got in close she didn't have a fucking clue, and she's so out of practice that it takes her whole seconds to summon her one backup melee weapon.
They're a lot tougher than jets, for a start.
And then his IS got a bunch of other cool toys that also share his sword's awesome anti-energy ability but he can't use them for shit.
He can now shoot energy projectiles that OHKO any IS and he still loses.
To be fair they're fighting in a tiny ass arena that completely gimps a long ranged IS like hers.
In fact the nips probably built it like that on purpose to stroke their KATANAH boner.
Byakushiki's one weapon is a melee one, and drains its users own shield to make its attacks extra powerful. It's very deadly on paper, but is kind of a high risk high reward weapon, since missing with it leaves the user vulnerable. Chifuyu could pull it off, and she only ever used a melee weapon anyway (I believe Tabane based it off of her style), but Ichika is too much of a scrub at present.
Shielding from conventional weapons
It's like you didn't even read the other posts in the thread.
>They're a lot tougher than jets, for a start.
I find that hard to believe.
The author claims they can withstand nuclear blasts and then shows that their shields go poof after being hit with a few small explosions or bursts from an assault rifle, albeit an IS-sized one.
I just checked BT and I saw how far his releases are from each other starting volume 7.
You guys are telling me he actually doesn't know what to write anymore after all that time? Wow.
Also just saw in the thread that the new manga is actually doing a better job at telling the story? The fuck happened to the author to now be seen as lowly as that.
>The author claims they can withstand nuclear blasts
I don't remember this.
Anyway, they're far from indestructible, but they are manifestly more durable than aircraft, considering how lightly armoured those are.
>You guys are telling me he actually doesn't know what to write anymore after all that time?
>The fuck happened to the author to now be seen as lowly as that
Common malady of authors. He's come to hate is own creation, but he depends on it for his income, so he just shits out another half assed effort every once in a while, growing more and more bitter as his other projects fail.
The best thing he could do for the franchise is hand it over to someone less burnt out who cares i.e. Homura.
It doesn't work like that. He expends the energy when he makes the attack, so if he misses then not only is he exposed, but he's also down some shield.
Think of it like Hi-Jump Kick.
It's kind of shown that actual military use IS have higher specs than special prototypes, school oriented IS and National representative models. At the end of season one it took 5 special models operated by students to take on one military use IS. Also models like Shiroshiki and Silver Gospel seem to have a lot better protection with full body atmor and other stuff conspicuously absent in all school models.
Yeah, but the author has given us no indication that the conventional weapons that Charlotte's IS carries around work any differently from regular ones aside from being bigger.
Hell Maya takes out Cecilia and Rin in one go with an RPG.
What's stopping people from shooting down IS with regular weaponry unless it's Chifuyu in all her OP glory?
Yeah, 2011 is coming back to me now. I think I remember him stopping after vol7 because I.S. got so big in Japan and fans were, hounding him regarding the girls or something. I also remember Charlotte btfo everyone in the poll.
In short, you're most likely right. He started hating it after it got popular.
They are conventional weapons, but the IS is unparalleled as a platform. It's as fast as a jet, a lot more manoeuvrable and can mount all sorts of special equipment due to the capabilities of the core. Proper military models have staying power too, considering Silver Gospel was cruising around for days.
Yeah, but the author hypes them up so much it isn't even funny in the world building info dump in the first volume, how they've rendered all previous military technology obsolete.
Clearly they haven't if you can take one down with an ICBM. As it is it seems more like "White Knight piloted by Chifuyu renders all previous military technology obsolete because she's a living incarnation of destruction but all other IS and their pilots aren't so great."
This is just a core conceit of the setting to allow this technology. It's not even the only series to do this. At the end of the day, it comes down to whether or not you can suspend your disbelief about the overwhelming superiority of one type of weapon, be it Mobile Suits, Objects, Bolos or whatever.
Although I would say that an ICBM has never been a 'conventional' weapon, that this is the Frodo 'well why don't they just use nukes for everything' question, and that the first thing an IS does in the series is shoot down ICBMs. Not that it would need to, it's not like you can hit a fast aerial target with something like that.
But we've seen regular military IS in action and they're painfully weak compared to the protagonists. They job like crazy in the Electronic Brain World arc and Kyoto trip arc.
Silver Gospel was just freakishly powerful. Sasuga Israel.
As the series goes on it feels less and less like that amazing feat can be attributed to IS being incredible and more to Chifuyu being impossibly strong compared to everyone else.
Most of the other pilots in the series would be taken out by any good anti-aircraft defense.
They jobbed to Chifuyu, who is a monstrous freak, and her (maybe) clone, who is also a monstrous freak. Even then, the American put up a decent fight, considering her opponent, and the Japanese ones were up against a Tabane original that was leagues above them with a superhuman pilot.
Most of the other pilots in the series are literal children, and first years at that.
I would say that Chifuyu may have oversold the world on IS capabilities with her performance.
So it's a testament to how incredibly shit Houki is as a pilot when she has the best cutting edge IS Tabane has to offer and still struggled against Silver Gospel instead of outright curbstomping it into the ground?
Madoka actually put up a rather poor showing in the final episode though. She basically got kicked around by the main cast like a football and had to be bailed out of trouble by the rest of her team.
The only notable win she had in that battle was taking out Ichika who wasn't even in his IS at the time.
Exactly yes. It's no coincidence that her record only starts to improve after she's had the machine for a while and Tabane can work her black magic on her.
Akatsubaki was a vanity project by Tabane meant to remind the world that she was still around and still better than it by having it take center stage in the convenient incident that just so happened to occur.
To be fair, she might have managed, even with her low skill, if Ichika had just let her blow up those bystanders.
I'll be frank, I don't actually remember much about Kyoto. It was anime original, and I think I heard volume 10 was supposed to be the novel's take on it.
Besides, we all know the real reason she wrecked so much is that it was being used as lazy shorthand for 'she's strong', despite the implications it should have to destroy like a dozen machines.
I guess they were those old ones that are so low spec the academy uses them for training.
It was a pretty fucking stupid fight.
Basically Madoka wiped out the mook IS by the dozens. They literally just floated in place for her to blow up.
Then she kicked Ichika's ass and Houki had to babysit his comatose body again.
She also got one good hit in on Cecilia before the rest of the harem came in and then things just went downhill for her.
The rest of the battle consists of the harem sans Houki pressing the offensive while Madoka basically tried not to die. They just hit her with one attack after another. She was basically screwed until Squall came in to save her sorry ass and OHKO'd the entire harem in one shot. At this point Ichika had done another philosophical introspection again and rose from the dead to score one last hit on Madoka before getting knocked out again. Tatenashi also snipes Squall.
At this point the entire main cast is down for the count and Squall becomes temporarily retarded and says that they should retreat despite just beating most of the good guys.
So really, Squall was one worth a shit, not Madoka.
Oh yeah and apparently those mooks that Madoka mowed down by the dozens all miraculously survived because Yamada said there were no casualties. Or maybe she was only talking about student casualties and the military can go die in a hole for all she cares.
What they really ought no have been concerned about wasn't losing a dozen odd pilots, but losing a dozen odd cores. They even have an excuse: the whole absolute defence deal could have protected them...were it not for the fact that they were presented as being disintegrated.
On that subject, it's my headcannon that the White Knight incident's lack of casualties was the bullshit official line, because you don't just sink a fleet of ships and have all hands survive.
I seem to recall Tatenashi jobbing (again) to Squall.
Overall though, yeah, season 2 original content is just something that slips away from my mind on account of how interminably dumb it is.
>I seem to recall Tatenashi jobbing (again) to Squall.
Tatenashi only jobbed once to Squall in that battle, and then she got her revenge by coming back with a sniper rifle out of nowhere and shooting her (mechanical) arm off.
>At this point the entire main cast is down for the count
Houki and Tatenashi were still good to go and they're arguably the strongest fighters in the group so it's actually not so unreasonable for Squall to want to retreat.
Now this is interesting (I'm loving the Chifuyu machinations manga original stuff). She's hoping to take advantage of Tabane's antics to get Ichika some experience to grow on.
I kind of want to know more about her now...
perhaps if Ichika wasn't portrayed as being dense....
but only doujins can take us there...
>people still think Ichika is dumb and dense
No my friends, this is a man that has found himself in the position of a women in a relationship, and he is using it to its fullest extent. The minute he fucks one of them, it's over, done. The rest either kill him or forget about him. He has over five women in high profile positions from countries around the world who all want his dick. Rich girls, military girls, political girls. He is in a very strong position of power when the strongest weapons of each country can only be piloted by said women, and all he has to do is act oblivious to their advances.
Ichika is a manipulative mastermind.
Hm, looks like I must amend this.
Ayato is worse.
Yeah, but he's already got his relationship with Tabane nailed down by being her lesbian crush's younger brother.
Houki adds nothing to this harem but pain. And tits, I guess.
>develop any sort of meaningful backstory
That said Maya a cute. CUTE.
In all fairness to him the way it's written does make it look like two different sentences. It would probably be read - "FUCK ME. Hard now". This is clearly an exclamation of surprise followed by a statement of how difficult the subject of that surprise has now become to what it was previously.
And to be honest, he's Japanese, he'd decipher it like they do for most Engrish.
Don't forget Tabane puts keen interest on his little sis for some unexplainable reason so being close and good terms with Houki is actually pretty influential. The reason he got the Byakkushiki is partly so he can be near Houki, the same goes for the Aka Tsubaki. Is any surprise Houki's new IS have the ability to cover Ichika's model most glaring weakness?
No, because Tabane is blatantly shipping him with Houki.
>You either get a childhood friend who grows into a violent tsundere but with great looks and totally into you or...
>get one that is nice and warm to you but grows into an average cute that cucks you with one of your friends.
Just damn your dick into Houki til she is a submissive and sweet girlfriend.
Houki can also be cute when she's not being a frowning shit.
Would the series be better if Charlotte was kept as a guy?
I prefer the world of that one doujin where she completes her disguise by using a dildo cast from Ichika's dong.
>Naming your kid sword
>naming the second one hairclip
