I just realized. Eva's plan is basically a lover's suicide. She kills Negi like he wanted, becomes possessed by the MotB, and then kills herself while she still has self control. It's her giving in to all her despair and self-loathing with an excuse for how it's a heroic sacrifice.

So that means Touta's REAL job is to convince her that life is still worth living. It's a goal he's been making baby steps towards the whole series, but he's going to have to finish the job. Negi wanted to save the world by making everyone happy? Touta has to save the world (and his waifu) by making Eva happy.

This being a Negima sequel is a hook up while he continues with a new story with new characters with immortality and stuff. If all he wanted was to continue Negima he would not have created new main characters. Personally, UQH is the reason I read Negima because it got me interested in it.
