I was a huge fan of the manga and ln before the anime aired. and i was NOT waiting for the anime; I was dreading the anime, convinced DEEN would fuck it up so badly we'd wish we never saw it.

I did not expect them to adapt it so well as to capture the atmosphere and comedy of the light novel without rewriting everything. Nor did I expect the warm spot in my heart for Megumin to grow into open infatuation.

You have three categories of magic: Basic Magic, Intermediate Magic and Advanced Magic. Learning any of these categories seems to give you access to all spells in it so they look like a package deal.

Not in base rulesets, but I've always run a homebrew where at the beginning of the day, when you prep, you can trade up two spell-slots of Spell Level X for one slot of X+1. Every time you do this, up the casting time.

IIRC even the pen & paper systems had spell points (which basically worked like mana for all intents and purposes) as an alternative to spell memorization. I know for a fact 5th edition has this and I think 3rd edition might have as well, but I'm not too familiar with that edition outside of video games.

It's actually good, because invis + backstab + tankiness all works out pretty well, and you get invis after surprisingly few levels. At higher levels, you can use magical weapons and armour to fight, and thief's backstab is always ridiculously overpowered.

Raw fighters are still the easiest to learn, but F/M/T has way more potential than it should. Dual F/M, F/T are also great.

You can't run in front of stealthed enemies or intangible enemies, and she's vulnerable to roots and binds or even just slows and general status effects, especially ones that bypass armor and mitigations and just deal percentage damage to HP.

As you guy speak about this world mechanic, let's talk about mechanic of magic in this Fantasy Australia a little bit more.

In this World, everyone have mp. However if the spell cost more mp than that person capacity, it will also consume some of the caster hp.

In case of Megumin, it's implied that she fee "high" after the sudden drain of hp/mp of explosion spell. So she is not love explosion, she is addicted to it.

And did you know that spell in this World could also fail?

According to LN. the higher level of spell the more chance to fail. If it fail, the caster will lose control and cast it on him/herself instead. That's why most caster will have spell-stone for use in emergency situation. When they sense that the spell will fail, they will stop it and use the one that stored in spell stone instead.

And yes, Megumin don't carry something like that (it's expensive.). Good news is her explosion have incredibly higher success rate than normal caster (98% compare to 80% of normal person). She fail once in drama cd... and it make whole party (except Aqua who shelter herself in deep water) plus Yunyun, Wiz and Katsuragi paralyze for a period.

Nothing except Succubus shop is nice in Fantasy Australia.
