Anime has gotten more and more niche as time went on. Before there was anime everyone could enjoy. Now it's just moe waifu shit for otaku. The only normie animes left are stuff like Attack on Titan and One Punch Man.

>the C. S Lewis quote in the GiTS snap

I fucking hate how people misuse this. People take that sentence out of a larger quote and completely miss the context.
>>
>>137304798

The full quote is this:

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

That's some serious selection bias, 90% of anime is still the same japanese gospel about hard work and masochistic perseverance fulfilling everybody's dreams.
>>
>>137305036
I've been one for almost 4 years and my lifestyle has been risked every September. It's really stressful and I'd just recommend everyone to stay in school or get a job.
>>
>>137305420
Do you really think that's specifically Japanese?
>>
I'd say anime has only been different before 26 and 13 episode series became more frequent.
>>
>>137305416
Add 'deconstruction' to that.
And the way it's being thrown around, 'pacing,' too.
>>
>>137305402
Fuck you
>>
Anime got real, that's what. There's no sense in glorifying normie life anymore.

I mean look, back then it was all good, but now? You stick your neck out trying to socialize, because we live in an age full of politically correct autistic fuckwads who have a crack team of neurons inside their head analyzing every word you say.

People suck, the world sucks, it always has but now it's getting worse. I'm not even edgy, I am pretty happy going to school, working a shitty job, painting and playing piano. I still am pretty otaku-esque.
>>
>>137305621
>I'm not even edgy
I dunno man, all that seemed pretty edgy to me.

I haven't seen it thrown around harder than in anime. It's a part of the medium's core identity, like cute girls.

You can find shows about the power of friendship anywhere, but I can't think of many non-japanese equivalents to the likes of Hibike and Shirobako. Maybe I haven't seen enough western cartoons.
>>
>>137305737
What part? The part where the "real world" is shit?

That's just truth nigga.
>>
The ones on the left are scifi, action and/or drama, the ones of the right are comedies.

It's really not a shock that comedy treats serious real-life issues lighter. This is like complaining that Seinfeld and Breaking Bad don't treat issues the same way.
>>
>>137304565
>>137305363
There is a lot of dialogue, but what changed my perception of the show was that chatting is exactly what a lot of people do in those games when they're not fighting. Thinking in that sense helped immerse me.
>>
>>137304473
maybe you should do the opposite and stop producing bad jokes lol
