I have a question about Owarimonogatari episode 6. Dont read if you dont wanna get spoilered.

I dont get how Oikura didnt notice that her mother died. They just say Oikura didnt notice that she was caring a corpse and thats it. Oikura always made the food and her mother also ate at the beginning. After some time her mother ate less and less and eventually stopped taking the food. If she doesnt eat anything what Oikura prepares Oikura MUST have notice this.
If the same food Oikura made is untouched in several weeks or months and Oikura knows that she is the only one bringing food to her mother shouldnt she bother look after her mother? I mean she didnt eat anything for a long time so how can Oikura know that her mother is alright if she doesnt talk to her or see her body? No one can survive like that and I think Oikura was old enough to understand this fact.
Is the story surreal or am I missing something?

She was dissociative, whatever evidenced that her mother was dead was selectively ignored. Basically she might think that the period her mother didn't eat isn't completely abnormal or that it was less than it really was. It also helps being 12 years old, but that situation might have been the same even if she was older.

Some people believed that the "eating a little food" were because of rats though.

>>136373326
18 year old Sodachi is still insane and perfectly able to deal with all of her daily life tasks with no problems.

She was always both a victim and a crazy cunt, the mother thing just helped Araragi who is used to crazy cunts to realize she was beyond that.

And up to this point whenever she lied was to sugar coat her situation so no one would pity her, not to make herself a victim.

Just because you're thinking crazy people should be rational when even sane people aren't. Selectively choosing evidence that confirms one beliefs is what the brain does even for normal people. And a child prodigy detached from reality like Sodachi can be very creative in distorting the facts into something she really believes into.

Sure, she could also test her hypothesis that her mother is alive using the scientific method. She doesn't want her mother to disappear, and as long as she can justify that reality somehow she doesn't need to think about it any further.

Pretty much. The brain can't fully understand the objective world so it takes a lot of shortcuts, which is why science requires an extremely careful and methodical procedure to say anything is actually true (and even so truth changes with time). For example you usually believe in your doctor without having actual evidence he is speaking the truth, as you justify it as someone who understand it said so. Just look for cognitive bias and dissociation for basis on wikipedia since I'm no good with thinking about examples.

Sodachi is a special case since she has actual psychological disorders, but it's not far from that idea.

I dont know if Sodachi has actual psychological disorder. The anime never mentions any diseases.
The idea that she justifies a reality of her mother being still alive after not eating several weeks or months by distorting facts seems odd to me. She is certainly depressed, somehow insane and really angry at her family situation but if she can think up plans to solve her situation, teaching Araragi mathematics, then she cant be delusional to that extent.
Also when a human dies his body deteriorates but the skeleton will be there for several years. How can she see a skeleton and think her mother is still alive?
>>
>>136372743
Thank you spooky Ougi.
>>
>>136378259
She experienced a whole life of extreme abuse, she can't be compared with someone with a normal childhood, social life and no traumatic events, but the point was that humans aren't rational, little crazy anime girls especially so.

And people can be in denial without affecting their normal life, in fact that's the reason for denial, it's a coping mechanism. The breaking point for Sodachi was realizing that there are people who have happy childhood, destroying her belief that her life was "normal", the summer lessons were a desperation attempt to save herself, and the divorce the point of no return when she gave up fighting and embraced the status quo. When she is saved before that, she has a normal life and becomes someone completely different as shown in Zokuowari.

And she didn't stay long enough for her mother to become a skeleton, just enough to lose her mother's features, when the mother "ran away".

Also she isn't angry at her family, she is angry at herself for ruining her family. Being angry with her family and Araragi is a post-rationalization, but it doesn't correspond to how she actually feels, just another coping mechanism.

By episode 5 you could already realize that the mother died since it doesn't make sense for her to lock the door back, and completely sealed the room (so it was dark) and there was a lot of trash in the house (smell) and Sodachi mantra "I didn't wish for my mother to disappear" like she was repeatedly telling herself it as in "a lie told often enough becomes the truth".

Episode 6 just gave all the hints again so there is no doubt, including Araragi acknowledging her insanity when she gives the answer.

She can shrug it off since she thinks it's her fault in the first place. And that's because all her life her parents blamed her for everything bad in the family, especially when she became "rebellious" by wanting not to be abused. But since the father also abused her mother, who is "innocent", she could easily see him as guilty as well.

She eventually says Araragi isn't at fault as well, but if she doesn't blame him she can't escape blaming herself as her parents can't be blamed anymore for things she did after they "left" her.

When you remember something anon, your brain is actually recreating the memory based on the information you received and how you perceive it. However, you don't always remember things correctly; it' why witness testimony isn't always reliable.
The brain can also block out memories of traumatic events if you really want it to. Oikura wasn't ready to accept the reality of her mother, so the brain made a cover story to block out the memory. It wasn't until she asked Araragi and Hanekawa to find out what happened that she was finally ready. She knew the truth all along, that why when they told her, she had no real reaction, because she had known for years, and was only ready to accept it now.
>>

A lie that isn't a lie.
>>
>>136381543
Because either she is delusional or a pretty good liar that has no reason to lie.

And the conflict was that she did want her mother to disappear, she was causing her continuous suffering, but if she did wish that then she really is the bad daughter that ruined the family, so she couldn't ever think about that possibility.
>>
>>136381770
no, she unconsciously knows the truth.
Conscously, she doesn't want to believe it, so she convinces herself that it didn't happen
>>
>>136381770
That's probably it. There might have been a part of her that was still clinging to the hope that she could've been wrong; that her mother was still alive and that Araragi could prove it. Oikura's a smart girl. If Ougi and Hanekawa could figure out the situation based solely on her story, then it's not hard to believe she could've as well. Only problem is that she didn't want to believe that reality and hoped the others could find something she might've missed that can contradict her conclusion.

It's pointless as she can't force feed her mother, only provide her with food. At the point that it would be beyond just guessing the mother would be long dead already, so it would be pointless.

If she was an uninvolved adult she might have discernment to call an ambulance right after she stopped talking, but then the mother would just do it again if she ever returns.

That was about Sodachi, not Nadeko.

Nadeko wasn't abused in any way, and she was a victim mostly of the effects of her own personality and lack of social skills.

They will at the very least finish final season. Off-season is a big maybe, but at least Oroka is the very first if they give it a try and don't skip anything.
>>
>>136392956
They said that they're going to adapt 'everything' - that being said I doubt all this off season spin-off stuff that Nisio is currently putting out will all get adapted.

The rest of Owari (3 story arcs) + Zoku (1 big story arc) are likely though, maybe all together in Owari's second cour

Also, one week for the full version of mathemagics now.
>>
>>136393824
I doubt it's the same, but I mean with regards to which series that all the manpower and budget is being funneled into.
>>
>>136394029
It's aniplex who decides the budgets, and it's probably more of a question of how much they expect in return.

A new Madoka season will probably have larger budget than what Owari had and higher returns, but it's also not something they can't keep making new seasons since the cast is small and the spin-offs weren't successful.

The question is how they plan to do this.

Because in all seriousness, Koyomimonogatari has been total shit.
>>
>>136396244
Both are side stories, but different from koyomimonogatari the off-season actually involve things happening.
>>
>>136392556
That's probably because there's barely any romance shown on screen between Araragi and Crab after Nise.
>>
>>136397500
Because Nisio thinks that normal couples are boring. Koyomimonogatari make it seem like there will be no romance with crab either, leaving only one small arc in the rest of owari.

It's true. When you focus on an established couple it's usually pretty dull unless you add stupid drama and other bullshit.

That's why I don't mind the majority of their normal boring ass relationship being in the background.
