Whether or not magic caused the events at Rokkenjima is not even an actual question. Any competent reader would understand by Episode 4 or 5 that the disaster was not caused by actual magic. So when they are discussing "magic" they are not talking about sorcery or anything supernatural at all.

The story is about how we choose to view the unknowable past and how we want to handle tragedy. I do not think that this series is easy for younger people to relate to-- it's a much better read if you are old enough to have dealt with the death of a parent and the investigation that follows. You can look at the Rokkenjima situation as a "mystery" and obsess over it and try to solve it-- R07 argues that doing so is an unhealthy approach and that our pursuit of truth does not really accomplish anything. Ange's life is made substantially worse by her search for the truth, because the truth is both unknowable and what does remain of it is actually horrible.

Accepting "magic" is a way of looking at the past where you are willing to forgive, gloss over, and let things stay private or in the dark. It's a way of "letting go" and moving on. What matters most for our future is not determining exactly what happened in the past, we can invent any story we really would like to explain it, and it does not matter all that much whether or not it is the actual truth. And the only one with the right to say anything about what happened on Rokkenjima and the only person who has a vested interest is Ange anyways. So what is it to you? Accepting a gentle lie lets Ange move on and do something positive with her life.

Battler's message to Ange is that she does not need the weight of knowledge. Ange has been so caught up in the mystery of Rokkenjima that it distorted her ability to see anything positive at all about her own family. She was only able to see Eva as an enemy or a potential murderer because of it. And the actual truth is worse. Magic is the better option.

Ruining their faces and lolifying characters makes a character totally different from the way they are supposed to be and look. Anyone who's fine with that just plain doesn't care about the fiction they're consuming and the characters and plot that have been established. A character design, as designed by the original creative team/creator defines the character. That's like taking Spongebob and making him humanoid. The plasticy and generic art style with chins as sharp as that katana and skeleton thin arms look stupid and again, turn a set of characters into something that they're not - namely the forced "anime" style trend of the 2010s.
