Excel was a good show, but not the one to make a thread about.

In a way, actually watching excel is an experience akin to reading anime threads on /a/. Just as pointless and entertaining.

They're almost entirely separate entities. The manga has a very different tone and is mostly about being working class poor in Japan with some fantastical elements, the anime is a string of gag-anime style deconstructions of popular genres/series.

Both are good in their own way.

Also, does anyone know where I can find the Hentai Manga that was the prototype of Excel Saga? Apparently the sentai team stuff originates there and Excel was a girl who kept getting raped in it or something.

I didn't really understand it, but I watched the entire thing. Was pretty gud.

God, considering how old the animu is, the manga went on for quite some time.
It never had any single group translating it, despite it being popular enough to justify an official translation. Only the first three (I think) volumes were translated by some group, but no manga-site hosted them, so I downloaded them from some now dead site called stoptazmo. I buyed them too, of course, for completetions sake.
Jesus, the memories, that stoptazmo thing had some mission to warn about some guy called tazmo, who probably also doesn't exist anymore. Excel Saga is nothing but nostalgia for me.

This show was too wacky and the characters were all too annoying for me to enjoy it.

The only episode I liked was the Harlock/Yamato/LOGH parody near the end of the series. The rest seemed like the PENGUIN OF DOOM XD copypasta in anime form.

In June 2002, before the recording of the lead role in Excel Saga began, an agreement was made between Calvello and ADV that she would receive 6 weeks vocal rest in between each volume, due to the series being extremely taxing on the voice. This agreement was broken by ADV Films, and while recording Volume 4 of the series, Calvello injured her voice and was replaced by Larissa Wolcott.
