Off the top of my head. Of these Taifuu no Naruda is iffy and oughta be replaced probably, and Slight Fever is debatably a 2014 release.
There's a ton of indie I haven't seen yet, and stuff like Sugar Lump or Such a Good Place to Die aren't out yet.

Ai Mai Mi is just a personal thing, I know a lot of people don't like it or find it pretty dumb, or that the humour is too random. If you decide to watch it and end up liking it, Fushigi na Somera-chan from the same author which aired last season is pretty great too.
I do love Jinrui too though.

Because everyone who knows of Taiyou Matsumoto would know of Ping Pong as his most well known. He's overrepresented on the manga charts in the form of a bunch of other things and he's a recommended mangaka on one of them. Even if I preferred Ping Pong, I'd rather have Takemitsu on the charts than it.

Future Boy Conan is original. I'm not really sure about the huge improvement you talk about though, it all has its merits. It really depends what you are talking about when you say quality. If by quality you mean just being better all round I would disagree. Older TV anime shows do to tend to have poorer animation. Backgrounds do tend to be more photo realistic and characters more detailed in modern times. The older TV shows do also tend to also be more aimed at children rather than adults so if that puts you off its easy to see why you would think that as well.

A lot of those older shows are still among my favourites though but I think the real wisdom is to acknowledge that anime across all generations is mostly mediocre or bad with a few gems each year.

The thing that makes there be a difference between the number of shows on each chart (the number of gems each year) is that in the earlier years there were far fewer TV anime being made. 1975 had a total of 15 shows for example. I would say the proportion of good, noteworthy shows as expressed in terms of overall shows per a year has remained fairly constant it is just there are far more shows being made after Evangelion. The more times you shoot at a target the more chances you have to get a bullseye.

There is also the consideration that as Western fans many of which do not know Japanese there are a considerable number of shows from older time periods that we cannot watch due to lack of subtitling. Only the most popular shows from before 1980 have any kind of English availability. Although that can correlate with quality to some extent, most of the great stuff is subbed.
