What retro anime are you watching right now? I just finish KOR and I really enjoyed it it. I am in love with the art style of that time in anime. I'm now watching Urusei Yatsura episodes between OVA's and movies.

I've actually blanked out on one movie I watched a while back - it involved a young guy driving down the coast with a younger girl, they had an orb of some sort and had no idea what to do. I tottaly forget the name of it, anyone know?

I love the 32/33 stuff, although I don't think it's very easily accessible to a person trying to get into it today.
I hate the '40 stuff, but it's probably much easier to digest.

So you better watch the OVAs, or I'm going to post a reaction image of a cute girl looking at you with disgust.

I'm watching Macross right now, it's honestly pretty mediocre

The plot is some idealistic anti-war the power of love bullshit, and Minmay is a whore. Everything else is fine though.

I only have vague memories of watching the dubbed version as a kid so I decided to download it recently. I wonder if it'll be any different.

I'm also watching Macross. I just got up to the part where Minmay's faggot cousin shows up. I'm enjoying it quite a lot so far but I wish that Hikaru would speak up about his and Minmay's relationship.

Does anyone else watch shows without binging? Instead of just marthoning one show after another, I watch about 4-5 older ones at once, just like I do with the currently airing anime. I watch 1 episode of a show a day, maybe 2 if the action is really going strong. all together I might watch 5 or 6 episodes of anime everyday, so over the week I can easily keep that pace up.

I tried just burning through shows, but since a lot of older stuff is like 50-100+ episodes as the norm it can feel like a blur and i think it doesn't do the shows justice, you can't really digest anything.

Today I'll show her Demon City, not sure if she'll like it as much because she said Taki is pretty badass.

I also plan on rewatching a lot of classic Madhouse stuff with her, there's a lot I forgot and she realy got into it after I gave her my Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust DVD.

I watched Macross Plus last night. I was blown away by the visuals but I think the plot and characters were not good. I feel like it was hyped up to me as something that it really isn't. I was really expecting a larger-scale masterpiece and while I got that visually, the content itself was lacking. It felt like how when I watched Gundam 0083 for the first time

Why do you say that though?

I felt it was a nice simple story with an actually decent love triangle, I didn't really like the justification of Guld being an asshole when he was young because muh Zentradi genes but it was nice nonetheless.
Sure, if you went in expecting Angel Egg with mechaplanes you were bound to be disappointed, but I think it's pretty good for what it is, much better than most Macross series when it comes to relationships actually.

That's the thing, I didn't care for the love triangle aspect at all. I think because I was expecting something significantly more dramatic than I just sealed away the memories. Also from what I read, Myung wasn't even raped. The stuff with Sharon in the second half feels very disconnected from the first half.

I mean it's not bad or anything. I just was told it was the magnum opus of Macross and I'm still finding that to be DYRL

I finished Lupin III Part 1 (Green Jacket), really enjoyed it. Watching Part II soon, and when I finish that I'll watch the first two or three movies, then Part III. I'll continue with Gasaraki for the rest of the day, though.
I'm also in the middle of Tekkaman, though I'm taking it slowly, since the main appeal of it for me is the kickass version of the main theme that plays whenever he fights (and the fights are great as well, incredibly creative), and I'm afraid if I marathon it then it'll lose it's impact and I won't enjoy it that much.
>>
Oniisama e...
I read the manga but I forgot most of it, one of the reason I'm watching it is to see how they turned a 3 volumes manga in a 39 episodes anime. I have to say it's a great, the only weird thing is that most episodes feel like the second half of an episode and the first half of another.

Marathoned Generator Gawl yesterday. Nice little Sci-fi series. Everything the trio has done up till the ending feels a bit pointless aside from the power of friendship. I'm a sucker for transforming into a full armor suit akin to Kamen Rider.

Absolutely, the first arc it's just terribly slow.

It's pretty legit on average but the rest is never as good as Miyazaki's episodes.

the M-66 sisters are wonderful. Shirow was directly involved in the animation on this OVA and it shows. It was amazing even with its moderate budget.

by comparison, Koukaku no Pandora makes me want to find him and stab him in the neck.
>>
I watched Golgo 13 last night. Very stylish and atmospheric but outside of the action scenes I wasn't feeling it super hard. Solid action movie though, watch it if you're into girls/violence/cars. What'd you guys think of this one?

>Koukaku no Pandora

Yeah, I don't know what the deal with that is. I know Shirow just wrote the story but it makes me wonder how much creative control he had. Or if he did had full control, I'm wondering what caused him to make the manga.
>>
>>136164404
Thanks.
It's just that almost each episode have the same scheme till now.
So just should tough that out and enjoy later?
>>
>>136164800
haven't yet watched the film but the art in the manga is great
>>
>>136164955
As I understand it, Shirow only provided the characters and a rough outline of the story, the rest is Rikudou.

Movie looks great as well (outside of the most atrocious CGI helicopter battle I've ever seen). Direction is top notch, filled with interesting cinematography.
>>
>>136165228

Ahh, alright. I was kinda worried there for a sec that maybe he was trying hard to appeal or something.

I finished Kare Kano a few days ago. The last part was far better than expected. The anime as a whole gets a solid 8/10 from me.

I forgot the name of this anime

>some guy works in a pharma company
>he has a particularly bad cold
>someone tells him to use the new medicine which is in development as in the boss's office
>he finds a jar full of weird-looking medicine
>he swallows it and then goes to sleep
>he wakes up and feels as great as ever
>the boss realizes that he somebody touched his jar, but it's too late
>everybody in the building is knocked out by the time the guy wakes up
>the guy goes to the boss's office and presses the panic button which connects him to some authorities
>he goes outside
>a yellow gas starts emitting visibly
>the flowers start blooming during the winter
.
.
.
>he is targeted by government officials and launch every type of weapons toward him
>soldiers are knocked out
>america saves the day by sending men in spacesuits
>the americans capture the dude
>they go to receive their congratulations
>but what a twist: it's that gas dude
>he intoxicates the government HQ people

I remember it vividly but I don't remember the name.

The first 20 or 30 episodes are just the first volume of the manga. Lots of filler in between. I really like HnK filler though.

Thanks for info.
For now i can tell that they fucking know how to use their best music pieces in crucial moments. It's a shame that in new anime opening songs are never used, except maybe last episode.
Also that counter with seconds left to villains death is badass. So simple idea, yet so fucking cool.

I need to keep watching Kimagure. I started watching it, but stopped after three episodes because of cringe. But the original OVA was really good, so it's probably worthwhile. But I don't like supernatural things either, with both that and cringe it gets a bit hard to watch, despite its good points.
>>
>>136169946
I read the manga years ago and it just seemed like an average love-comedy. The ESP thing seemed completely tacked-on and unnecessary. Maybe the anime elevates the source material somehow, I don't know.

Dirty Pair, Aim for the Ace! 2 and Anne of Green Gables.
Anne is a bit too slowly paced for me to sit through all 50 episodes of it but I'm enjoying the other two a lot.

And I've always casually watched Lupin the Third on and off. It's not really a show I can marathon but it's my go-to when I'm in the mood for a Saturday morning cartoon.

Hard to say. Not the second, at least, excluding the intro. I can't tell, none of them really felt like the best. The last one was interesting in the movements, but the sparkly with the two girls was really nice. And the first one too, I liked the ending. It took a bit long to get started, but it was very interesting.
