Senri is the only good boy Koharu has. At least he'll appear more frequently than the other extra boys because he's Akito's brother.

If it was focused on Nanami it'd be better in various points; she's far better than Koharu, her main boy is Akito who is also good and in his route Koharu ends up with Senri. Also Mikoto goes with Natsuhiko. It's been a while I played it though I'm not sure about the last part.

If you want decent romance in about half of the routes, you can buy it but don't bet on the plot because there's a bunch of plot holes. The protagonists are also voiced in the game.

Try Code:Realize or Hakuouki if you'd rather be invested in plot, they're better titles. C:R especially because the plot and the characters are good, that includes the MC.

There's more than one MC, and while the one they're focusing is the worst of them she's better than these two you mentioned. Amnesia-chan is basically a dead fish.

They kind of butchered her in the first episode, all she did was "eeeh?" and fawn over a boy that she barely knows. Most of his lines for her are from later in his route.

Why is Otome stuff utterly boring?

The entire episode focused on a generic dead-fish and an equally generic bishounen.
There were 10 other characters and their role was basically exposition. I didn't even learn what the central conflict in the plot was.

To be fair, this time it was the adaptation's fault, mostly. Norn9 is not a great game but it's not terrible like the average.
The introduction in the game was made by a little boy who encounters the first MC (the pink haired girl) and they explain the basic points to them. This episode they basically jumped into a route without expanding anything and made the worse heroine of the bunch more retarded than usual. If I'm correct, these scenes where the girl is saved aren't in the game at all.

Not him, but otome games tend to have a very large cast of bachelors and it's really difficult to even show a condensed version of their characters with a 13 episode set. If they gave each boy in this series an episode, we'd be out 9, leaving 4 for, well, everything else.

In addition to having about double the average cast of suitors as a bishoujo game, and thus bishoujo adaptations, the individual stories tend to be conflicting. Bishoujo games often offload the romantic conclusion towards the end, where the individual girl's story might involve dating her early, it usually doesn't change a huge amount. In otome games, it's common to have the protagonist and the male love interest get together right at the beginning and build the plot around their relationship dynamic and issues, meaning that adapting one story will cause trouble for other stories.

Omnibus or a ground up rewrite is usually the way better adaptations go.

Amagami SS was the perfect harem anime in that sense. 4 episodes for each girl covering the basic of their routes making the viewer interested. Even if you gave each guy an episode, that would be trying to adapt a 7-8 hour long route into 20 minutes and that's a fucking terrible idea.

Kakeru looks like a perfect bishounen but he's an asscrack that bullies his shipmates and lies in front of everyone not giving a fuck. In this first episode he was basically a generic bland bishie.
Terrible adaptation.
