It really only has issues with pacing, the rest is all personal preference. The exam arc puts a lot of people off but even that had a lot of cool moments, and I thought the exam phases were well thought out myself (like the badge game on the island or the tower).

Just finished watching it and I was getting really bored but then it started showing so many perspectives on all of the characters involved in the conflict showing the determination of allof them.
You get involved in how the story plays out and just enjoy the ride, it really takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions in the last few episodes

The manga had much less impact than in the anime. The anime had the action effects drawn much better plus the music gave the scene a lot more hype for impact. In the manga it just felt like some other normal thing Leorio was doing.

Not that anon but you can't just pin it down to scenes, the manga is better for having the complete and accurate story with no filler and nothing missing, and because Togashi has a good sense for composition and panelling. Some things, like the narration and intentional slowing down of time in CA arc, just work better in manga format too.

But if you need examples I preferred Gon-san, Meruem's death and Welfin's reveal of Komugi's name in the manga. They were all done well in the anime because they were key scenes, but I just feel it more strongly with the way Togashi builds up emotional tension and creates visual impact. Eg: using a lot of mostly white pages for Meruem/Komugi's scenes together, filling the page up with text to convey how stressed Welfin was, etc. The art isn't particularly good at that stage but the roughness suits brutal shit like Gon-san. Actually one big appeal of the manga is the lack of censorship and generally how much creepier shit looks, like pic related. The anime was very cute and bright in comparison.

You know, I was rewatching some of 2011 Yorkshin and comparing scenes to the manga, and I couldn't help but notice how much angrier Kurapika is in the 2011 adaptation.

One thing I do have to say about HxH is that it probably has the worst character design of any major shounen. Nevermind the bodies (mostly the bland faces and hair), the clothes everyone wears are so half assed. No decoration, no interesting styles, and if Togashi feels like making them unique, he'll put some stupid shit on them, like the ribbons on Chrollo's and Zeno's pants. There's only a handful of good designs in the entire series.

It's good because, being an adaptation of the nineties manga, it has a genuine flare of vast, fun adventure to it. It isn't bound to one particular thematic element or style, like a lot of new or long-running shounen are; HxH goes through atypical "call to adventure" steps, training arcs, gritty crime&revenge stories, virtual reality, politics and gruesome, philosophical piece that is Chimera Ant. To put it simply, it's like watching Dragon Ball as a kid again.

I agree they're mostly bland and sometimes even uninspired but what you said about adding random shit to clothing to make them unique is stupid, especially in the examples you've given considering both of their attires clearly stand out even without those details. The only one i really remember thinking was awful is Phinks' weird pharaoh shit, but he's in a tracksuit most of the time so it's not much of a problem i guess.

It's a Battle Shounen that attacks different genres with each new story arc.

The only real bad part about it IMO is that a majority focuses on Gon and Killua when there are 4 main characters in the story.

Also, dat narrator in Chimera Ant Arc was great.

Granted, the other two get great moments when they show up, but could use more development.

Also, HxH 2011 for the first 80-90 episodes was literally a show aimed at children. They toned down everything, removed the atmosphere of the manga and censored a lot of scenes. They ruined the Hunter Exam and Yorkshin City. They ruined Gon and Kurapika.
They couldn't censor the CA arc so they had to change time slot.

I don't think it's that I think that it was really just a general lack of effort on the part of part of Madhouse. A series being aimed at children doesn't excuse its poor direction.

I think the reason for the change was really because the first 4 arcs didn't do so well in Japan, despite the fact that they were the acclaimed arcs, so they had to change their approach.
