I don't think there will be any end to the studio complaining until we get a PV, at the earliest. It should be expected, SHAFT is far from the first studio people would have liked see adapt this.

Still, it's not like there's anything we can do. All that can be done now is hope for the best; I've said as much in another thread but I believe Shinbo will do a good job on certain aspects of the narrative, it's just a question on how well the drama will be handled.

Overly complicated pattern is first a high invest low return thing when trying to animate it, so anime designs are general simplified as hell.

But even if the studio gets all the time and money it needs. Animating such complex pattern would require high animation skills and would look jarring because you will see every little uneven animation frame.

The manga is written by famous author who have won various awards from her previous work.

And this sangatsu no lion have also won several awards including a very prestigious Grand Prize of Osamu Tezuka Cultural Award.

Among it's previous winner of that very award is vagabond, monster, pluto, helter skelter, historie, and kingdom.

The manga might not be for everybody but considering the sales, awards and not to mention the story and artstyle wasn't that hard to animate (direction close to "your lie in april"), it'll be no brainer for Shaft to pick this.

The hell are you talking about? The directing was great. The directing/mise en scene and the voice acting are the single two elements that carried that show, as a show. As for story? It was a drama slice of life mix -- all about the characters, not story. Did you even watch the damn thing?

Its only weak point was the actual animation, which was pretty limited most of the time.

Compared to the Noitamina shows aired at the time it was indeed one of the visual weakest anime.

Only Moyasimon, Toshokan Sensō and Antique Bakery were weaker.

Anyway, I stand by what I said: this will have been so much better directed by the guy who directed Usagi Drop and animated by Production I.G. not Shitbo and his army of sewer rats.

I think the music usage was actually a big part of it. It accentuated the emotion in a lot of pretty low-key scenes. I still remember the early part of the S1 ED that would come in early and make me feel like "That's just the way it goes."

Tough it'll be interesting to see whether shaft could get out from Monogatari artstyle or they'll just lazily goes monogatari-animation with it.

I disagree. The only things with visual styles that really stand above it are Mononoke and maybe the Kitaro remake, but I haven't seen that in ages. Hataraki Man was nothing visually, Nodame and H&C have pretty similar aesthetics, and I just don't like Paradise Kiss' style at all.
