There's also how girls of 2-A were as good as they were because for the longest time, Negi didn't overtake their focus. It ironically let them do things besides fawn over him being better than them at everything.
When the series shifted more towards the hero becoming stronger, plenty found it refreshing to see Negi become a badass. But you could see the popularity votes for the girls wane off into nothing. Except for Yue because she had her own starring arc in a Negi-free zone.
