I love Magi regardless, but I think at some point Ohtaka simply struggled to balance adventure with story, and she eventually had to make a priority of one of these two aspects. And she evidently chose story. I'd say this became apparent around the Zagan arc.

This is probably the reason the Sinbad prequel exists in the first place, so that the people who were more fans of the early Magi days can read something that resembles that.

While I admire the attempt to make something different, I can't quite get on board with how the author tries to shoehorn economic real world problems into the story. While she can show the basic problem, she won't be able to present some satisfying solution, as there aren't any easy ways out. Anything she may present as "the way out" will ring hollow or will have a bad aftertaste of seemingly pushing some political view.
