Anime gets done far more now though, basically everything a season gets done even if its by official companies. I did love fansub group drama though, especially when HOLY SHIT two groups want to do the same series and one happens to be faster.

We still have issues with that in manga, usually because Mangastream wants to jump on the popular shit after other groups/people did the work to get it noticed.
