>Kizumonogatari I coming out in January
>coming out as 3 movies
>the first movie is only 60 minutes

Did SHAFT just take a page from Peter Jackson and making things worse with ridiculously short running times? 2011's Winnie The Pooh is longer than that.
>>
Shaft are really not that big. They probably can't afford a 3 hour version of something that looks as high profile as Kizu.
>>
>>135244176
If you're making a movie, make it 80-90 minutes. Otherwise, you're just making an OVA.
>>
>>135243792
Looks to me like they took a single 3-hour movie and decided to split it into 3 short parts so Jewplex can attain maximum shekels.

Eh, works for me. I was scared them dividing it meant they were going to add shitty filler to give each movie a 90min mark like what they did to The Hobbit but looks like that won't be the case.

Are you serious? I'm glad they will spend a lot of time working on it, but the wait for it all is going to kill me.

We may not be able to see the third movie before 2018.

Rewatched the trailers. You're right it's drawn in a much more detailed style than TV. It's just that it's Shaft and monogatari's avant-garde style that made me think that it would be lower.

According to anon, Oishi's final storyboards, which he has taken the past six years to complete, will take up about 3 hours of screen time. So it was decided to split the movie into 3 one hour long 'movies'.

There are plenty of other anime 'movies' that are only about an hour long. Towa no Quon is a series of 6 movies from Bones and each film is just short of 50 minutes.

1. Most people have trouble sitting still and paying attention to something for 3+ hours.

>They held out in order to build up hype to milk it for cash
I doubt that, because that's just not the way it works. Releasing this in 2011 on the heels of the best-selling TV anime in decades would have generated more money than releasing it in 2016 now that the franchise's died down significantly. There's a massive amount of hype among the fans, but those fans are much less numerous now.
>>
>>135246592
>They held out in order to build up hype to milk it for cash.
Sure thing. Keep telling yourself it's all just Aniplex's plan to milk Monogatari for more money. It's not like the director hasn't been active for these past 6 years the movie hasn't come out or anything. I'm sure it was finished years ago, but they just held out and told Oishi he couldn't work until it was all released so they could make more money.

And yes, the average person does have trouble paying attention to something for over 3 hours. Not everyone is a special snowflake like you that lists "watching paint dry" as one of their hobbies.

Their entire business plan revolves around convincing people through constant advertising, hype and publicity that everything they have to offer is a superior product. It's a hand me down approach for Sony that's generally worked cause anime fans are stupid and the perfect targets for hype marketing campaigns based around big licenses and well hype.

Yeah that was kind of the point. Specifically premium priced marketing. They essentially act like everything they produce is the equivalent of a Triple A game except until Pony Canyon they're the only ones charging those prices outside of Japan which of course people will defend for various petty reasons, most of which have to do with somehow feeling superior to others for forking out for this shit rather than stupid and incapable of understanding that different things hold different values to different people.

Not as many people in NA will pay 150 god damn dollars for around 12 episodes or something similar. It's japan's problem in the first place that anime is dying and they can only sell to hardcore moeshit otaku because they charge so god damn much for their releases.

You know how mad I was when i discovered that Kara no Kyoukai was 400 fucking dollars?
>>

>>
>>135247523
>It's japan's problem in the first place that anime is dying and they can only sell to hardcore moeshit otaku because they charge so god damn much for their releases.
Try making specific claims and backing them up, because right now you're a fucking parody of yourself.
>>
>>135247335

Try reading more than the first sentence. I know it's rare to see anything past that length in the apparently illiterate anime community but seriously just try.
>>
>>135247571

It's an oversimplification of the problem that could very well be reversing cause and effect but nonetheless kind of valid.
>>
>>135247377
No because you're basically saying that the average anime watcher is too autistic to sit though a long narrative driven story just because it's an anime. No anime movie has exceeded 3 hours of a continuous runtime. I don't need to prove anything just because you have the attention span of a squirrel.
>>
>>135247523
>they can only sell to hardcore moeshit otaku
and yet titles that consistently break the 30k mark in a season make up about a 1/4 of those and this is before we factor in family anime that isn't even recorded the same way.
>>
>>135247335

There's more than one way to try to market a product you realize. I know /a/ is big on trying to simplify and par everything down to the most base possible of scenarios but come on man
>>
>>135247657
It's a claim that is made every single day without any evidence by dozens of people with no clue what they're saying, so if you want to be taken seriously or debated with you'll have to do better than an oversimplification with unsubstantiated assumptions.
>>
>>135247621
No he properly simplified your argument. Just because you're mad that they're very good at marketing doesn't change the fact that you're mad simply because they're good at marketing.
>>
>>135247695
Convincing people through publicity and advertising that your product is superior for one reason or another is basically what all marketing entails. Hype is a little more specific, because there's not much "hype" for household cleaning products or whatever, but it's pretty universal in the anime world. Yes, Aniplex has some retardedly exaggerated marketing (I wish I had the Aldnoah promotionals on hand), but the idea of hype marketing campaigns for big licenses is pretty much what happens with every big product in every medium.
>>
>>135247703
Regardless of whether or not its true, the prices of the majority of anime are absolutely bonkers. I don't know many people here who are going to pay 40 or more bucks for 3 episodes, and I certainly won't.

It's essentially the equivalent of whaling and going after a small but loyal core audience of otaku that will literally empty their bank accounts for anything the franchise label is slapped on as opposed to trying to go broader which would mean having to lower prices and put more effort into the things they produce. It's way easier from a producers perspective just to keep going with these hardcore otaku market approach to anime but shitty for people that were into anime before the late night anime scene really exploded.

They are, yes, their model doesn't expect foreigners to buy much, or even for most of Japan to be willing to pay that. They charge a bunch for an expensive-to-produce niche product because that is the best way to maximize profit. It's Jewish, but it's functioning.
>>
>>135247911
That is what I have been thinking too. It's too much of a coincidence for the movie to come out in Jan 2016 with a NA theater showing in Feb 2016, with the English LN released in Dec 2015.

The description of the books even says how the movie is coming out in 2016.

Hey /a/, in preparation for the possibility this movie might be playing near me, I essentially want to start watching this monogatari series but never did because of my massive backlog. so in what order should I watch it? I'm sure I have most of it downloaded
>>
>>135247984
Let's hope
>>
>>135247888
>the equivalent of whaling
I don't get the connection. Did you just throw that in because Japan, or are whalers known for hiking up prices to target the devoted buyers?
>>
>>135248033
You only need to watch Bakemonogatari to understand Kizumonogatari.

Watch that shit nigga.
>>
>>135248033
There was a chart somewhere, but basically just watch Bakemonogatari and I think it was Kuro Neko special. That's all you really need to get the general gist of the characters in preparation for Kizu. The best watch order for now is probably just production order for now since not all of the LNs are adapated yet.
>>
>>135248033
Watch it in release order.

Bake
(Kizu)
Nise
Neko (Kuro)
Second Season
Hana
Tsuki
Owari

I think I got all of them in the right order.
>>
>>135248033
Just watch it in release order.

After everything has been released you can go back and watch in chronological.
>>
>>135247888
They tried lowering the prices across the industry several times and every time it failed. Only people who were going to buy the BDs in the first place, such as Otaku, Fujoshi, popular shounen series teens and shoujo fans are the target audience for them.
>>
If they had split it in two movies of 90 minutes it would be alright. Three of 60 min is way too jewish.

>>
>>135248033
Watch Bakemonogatari. That's all you need for Kizu and it's really the only worthwhile -monogatari.

>>
>>135247984
Kizu was apparently a best seller on the day it was released and has gone out of stock in some places so I hope they've found an incentive.
>>
>>135246468
It's fucking SHAFT. They can't keep a production schedule in tact for a single cour show, you trust them with a single 3 hour movie?
>>
>>135246482
How does it compare to the existing fan translation?
>>
>>135248082
If you admit to consuming whale meat, people will look at you like you're a savage. So less and less people consume whale meat while a fanatically small portion of the population loves whale meat and so the whale meat industry will cater to only them and jack up the price to maximize profits from that small group. You can replace "Whale meat" with "anime."
>>
>>135248033
>>135248347
Kizumonogatari is chronologically the first book.

So you don't really need to watch anything.
>>
>>135249383
But you're meant to read it after Bake and before Nise.
>>
>>135249383
People like you are scum. Prequels are written under the assumption that the audience is familiar with the work.

>>135248033
At least watch Bakemonogatari.
>>
>>135249444
Technically, yeah.

But even if you watch it first you won't be lost, since it's the very beginning of the story.
>>
>>135248082
"Whale" in this instance refers not to the animal, but to a kind of consumer. It's generally used in the context of free to play games. Whales are the 1% of the audience that generate 99% of the revenue.
>>
>>135249173
The fan translation included footnotes for obscure references which I find helpful. There's no footnotes whatsoever in the printed book but I found the Sexy Commando line there intact. You're always free to put the book down then google it. The puns are replaced with English versions a la Commie. The prose is entirely far better. One example that made me crack up
>"Totally your imagination. Super-duper all your imagination. Until just now, I was painting a beautiful visual landscape using words pregnant with emotion."
It fits Araragi pretty well.
>>
>>135249527
It's the beginning of the story but the writer didn't write it as an entry point. You are supposed to know what happens later, or who the characters are
>>
>>135249527
The fucking first lines are "I suppose I need to get around to talking about Kissshot"

It's not that you will be lost, it's just that you will view characters differently than the author intended due to the sequence of information that you are receiving.
>>
>>135247297
Wasn't one of the Disney pirate movies three hours long?

Monogatari fandom is one of the worst ones out there, only losing to katawa shoujo and undertale, currently.

/a/ is the official translation for Kizu good? like vs the fan translations available is it fine? I feel like official books normally are better than official subs, but recently there's shit like Magical Girl Chiru-Chiru coming out with the shittiest translations available.

I checked there. Wasnt on order and sold out online. I was an idiot for not ordering a week ahead when I had the chance. Plus, the release date was past the christmas deadline, so I would have had to suffer just like the Amazon anons. I just hope they restock by new year or something.
