What are some artists you wish had fared better? It can be perpetually sick ones like the guys behind Teppuu or Nyan Koi, but I really mean people who just couldn't hack it. Like Nishino Juutaro, his art is really good and I really enjoyed the obvious Takahashi influence, but his writing wasn't up to par and he's too damn slow, so both of his series were cut short and he only compiled five volumes worth of work over nine years.
>>
He draws some really soft-looking breasts.
>>
>>135242774
Too bad the girl's face is covered. He looks like he might be a decent artist

He seems pretty decent, but his art is probably not suited for the "serious plot" kind of series.
>>
>>135244472
Yeah it looks more for comedy/romcom type things
>>
>>135244472
Definitely not, and his writing certainly isn't serious, he's just too slow for that light characterization to really grab people. The Tengu series has 13 chapters and it was out for something like two years.
>>
>>135244472
He has a new project? Cool.
>>
What the hell happened to Shirow Masamune? The last time I checked his work I just saw girls getting fucked by horse demons.
>>
>>135245250
He lost a ton of his notes in an earthquake or something and has never been the same.
>>
Hiroe Rei is a great artist who also happens to be the laziest degenerate in Japan.
>>
>>135245727
That title goes to Togashi, but Hiroe certainly gives him a run for his money.

Yoshiki Takaya.
Like holy shit, people who complain about Berserk being slow as fuck don't know about the pain of Guyver readers.
Imagine only getting a handful of chapters per year.
Imagine each chapter having about as much content as a Bleach chapter.
Imagine getting a recap of the entire fucking story so far that potentially stretches into multiple chapters every two years or so.
>>
>>135248245
At its nadir, Berserk went something like seven months without an update, was it worse than that?

I don't know if he's doing anything now, but all I've read from Nishiki Soraku was his Samurai Papa manga, and I really loved it. Great art and really funny. The daughter is too damn cute while the women are too damn perfect. It sucks he didn't continue it.

>>
>>135249508
Were the raws for that ever even scanned? I saw up to 7 on senmanga forever ago but never anything past it.
>>
>>135249619
That might have been it, his previous series was only 14 chapters. More artists need to consider doing what Tosh did and find a writer, at least until they can find their voice and get their names out there.
>>
>>135249075
>career artist
...dude, you knew that guyver author was mainly a gay porn artist, right?
>>
>>135249841
I meant that it's rarely their main source of income. Togashi and Miura are exceptions, most irregular artists don't get paid enough to live on what they produce, so they have real jobs and do the work when they have time and feel like it.
>>
>>135250050
Togashi is also married to Sailor Moon's creator, so he's kind of set for life.
>>
>>135250079

have vol 1-3 courtesy of jcafe. https://mega.nz/#!DxQ2CZhJ!GJtkccMdndQ-PUUAnzbqk-vv7OhUo3_t0viL4-6dswg It got a lot more porn-like then in-bura. Then again though I guess in-bura did have the dog girl oppai loli with the MC's dick in her mouth after all. I agree though he really should get a writer or just do porn. His style is very suited to it. not everyone can get lucky like Takeda Hiromitsu with maken ki.

Maruyama Wataru.

She has done some decent series, but they never seem to get much attention to them. One of her best stories got fucking axed because the online magazine she was getting published sucked at marketing. A real damn shame.

Her attempts at romantic comedy have been lukewarm, at best.

What?

Black Magic (1983)
Appleseed (1985)
Dominion (1986)
Ghost in the Shell (1991)
Orion (1991)
Dominion C1 Conflict (1995)
Ghost in the Shell 2: Man-Machine Interface (2001) (released in collected form in America on January 19, 2005)
Ghost in the Shell 1.5: Human-Error Processor (2003)
Kakuko no Pandora - Ghost Urn (2012)

The man built himself a reputation, but now suffers of the Mogudan's disease. A pity of what became of him, but I cannot allow you to ignore his past.

>>135255366
Eventually being the key word. He's had two series go over ten volumes and has stayed in business, that's not too bad.
>>
>>135255556
He is not mediocre. Shounen is just an extremely cutthroat business. Unless you rake in the big bucks, you are getting removed.

I could easily argue that people like Rumiko Takahashi is below mediocre, story and art wise, but since she already built a reputation around herself, she will keep selling.
>>
>>135255556

What's preventing Kano from going to another publisher?

His shit would have lasted much longer in Sunday or Magazine.

Yuichi Kamakura. Dying of the Japanese Cold since 2006, hasn't even tried to come back into the industry after putting King of Bandit's Jing "on hiatus."

And so we're left with
>We're here to steal you, cute girl of this arc.
And never find out if he's finally introducing a new permanent character or if it's just going to go on to the next arc with another cute girl who falls in love with Jing.
>>
>>135242774

That was a great manga. Hopefully his new manga fairs better.
>>
>>135244445
I actually really like the dark skin girl, but the manga makes clear she's useless comic relief and not a love interest.
>>
>>135245250
Story notes got burned in an earthquake, and he couldn't care after that. Then he started drawing porn and making tons of money from it.
>>
>>135255681
>Rumiko Takahashi is below mediocre
Now now, let's not go and say something we'll regret.

>>135255726
Japan is really big on the company man mentality; it's not unheard of for established creators to go elsewhere, but it's uncommon. In fact, the only instances I can think of off the top of my head is the WSJ exodus that led to Coamix getting formed.

>>135255800
After nine years, my money's on him just not wanting to do manga anymore.
>>
>>135249619

I thinks its on fapservice.
>>
Would Beelzebub count?
>>
>>135255858
If you Google or Wikipedia search him, nothing art-related pops up at all after 2006. Not even something like video game credits or anime credits.
>>
>>135255858
>Japan is really big on the company man mentality
Not just that. Creators in Japan really don't get royalties unless they're big and can renegotiate their contracts. They get nothing from anime, for example, and most of the toy and product royalties don't exist unless you've got a huge series. If you try to leave, basically every other company will blacklist you because you clearly won't stick with a company if you don't succeed and are thus disloyal.
>>
Kagami no Kuni. I really thought it was cute how he was falling in love with the non-heroine, and it's hilarious to me that the author realized he was NTR-ing his main heroine and killed the series solely because "muh red string can't allow this Dave."
>>
>>135256069
I'm not against royalties hinging on sales figures, but they should get something for their own damn property. Makes me wonder how the average mangaka would react if they were offered an American comic gig, which is basically structured around multiple streams of income.
>>
>>135255997
>>135256160
I am literally having trouble believing that you are so autistic you would delete your post and then remake it just to remove your link to the OP
>>
>>135256196
He also mistyped the name.
>>
>>135256196
No, I removed it because I said
>Kagamigami
rather than
>Kagami no Kuni.

Kagamigami is the stupid murder mystery manga with shinigami that ended in 6 chapters with the author going FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF to the readers. Remember?

I do not wish that artist had fared better. I wish he died of the Japanese Cold for being such a bastard.
>>
>>135242774
Takotsuboya. I know his types of stories are pretty niche, but goddamn there are plenty of worse artists/storytellers who found way more success.
>>
>>135256193
>Their own damn property
The tradeoff in Japan is that authors own the property, but companies dictate how you make money off of it. It's not like you can just take your series to a random company and have goods made based off of it.
>>
>>135251678
>>135253433
>>135255623
Are you guys saying that these happened in a non-hentai work? My god.
>>
>>135256514
But the series was never scanlated fully.
>>
>>135255981
Beelzebub's Tamura was doing ok and had some peaks like Furuichi becoming battle-capable thanks to the tissues but it went full retard at the last arc. He was getting his groove back in the Beelzebub Side stories but again went full retard retconning Oga's family and leaving Beel at the limbo between dimensions. He can make funny and cool stories but needs that final push to not botcher everything at the end
>>
>>135256548

In bura was fully scanlated.

>>135256514

His other work, Ninkoi, is almost as good.
