though back before the VN was translated all we had was the 2006 anime and that's nearly as bad as starting with Zero

I watched F/Z first, then S/N, then UBW.

I got a friend to watch it in S/N, F/Z, UBW order. He said watching S/N first made the other two seem infinitely better, which was understandable.

Good, just remember to leave it at that nothing else from nasuverse is worth watching/reading

No, and in the west DEEN was considered decent until the translations came out. It was still pretty hated in Japan though but the general Fate hype carried it.
