>don't own VHS recorder
>can't even watch it
This and used to own some other stuff not sure if I can find my other tapes anymore.
This along with Tenchi Muyo OVA, and Tenchi Universe, Some Gundam, DBZ, Ranma, Evangelion, Blue Seed, Bubblegum Crisis, and God only knows what else.
Remembering the days when I used to tape Toonami off the cable box.
I was just a cub then.
Can you really call that "owning" when you've clearly just copied another copy/recorded from TV?
I mean, really now. That was just Ye Olde Piracy. A necessary evil for those before the digital age, but still... owning? Really?
There are some interesting libertarian critiques of intellectual property that say in effect that yes, one does own those copies. Not the originals, but the copies.
Having to buy each tape and then spend the time to make sure it's transferred properly, making labels and all that jazz probably gives you a stronger sense of ownership than a disposable mkv file.
It sort of exists in the middle ground between piracy and the real thing.
I just won an auction for this. Can't wait to have mai waifu in glorious Hi-Fi quality.
No VHS tapes, but I've been thinking of getting some LDs, especially stuff that wasn't rereleased on a DVD or BD.
