Kadokawa holds the rights to Overlord (together with the author Maruyama). Authors let their publisher handle all that business related stuff. It's up to Kadokawa if there will be a second season or not. Maruyama can give input and put his veto if there are some stuff being done he doesn't like, but in general, he'll do what 99% of all authors do.
Take a hands-off approach and trust their agents and publishers to handle that stuff in a way that is beneficial for them so that they can continue writing instead of having to worry about such details like advertising and creating merchandise and when and how many copies sold is being considered profitable.
If Maruyama really wanted that second season right now, he would have to pay it from his own pocket. It's the suits at Kadokawa who will determine when is the best time AND if there's even a necessity for a second season.

Chances for a second season are good. The anime boosted sales of the light novels and the manga considerably (that's the most important factor), the anime itself is profitable, and the merchandise also seems to be selling well.

I will assume that there is enough material for a second season, and that Maruyama will be able to keep up with this workflow. Thus, the question is when will be the right time to start working on it to generate another boost for selling the light novels.

By the time volume 5 gets released is probably when Kadokawa will start making plans for a potential second season, inviting sponsors to become part of the Overlord Partners production committee, and then look for which animation studio to hire to make Overlord season 2.

However, anime adaptions tend to be a somewhat two-edged sword. If the anime does too well at promoting the source material, then there might not be a need for another anime season for a very long time.

Not that I would think that this is the case with Overlord, however.

I played some of the tos beta. Got bored of it fairly quickly though. Sure you can have a lot of skills but they cost a lot of sp and the recovery is pretty low, so generally you cast like 3 spells and then you're just stuck to autoattacking. Which can be a pain when you have to kill like 50 mobs. Also even just leveling alone is pretty difficult, there's like 10 mobs on every fucking square meter so if you need to do a quest and say activate something then it's just a pain in the ass. So you either have a group or you're stuck with pubbie groups, which are fairly easy to create/join at least since it shows which parties are doing the same thing as you. And if you've got a group then it's just steamroll through the zones which isn't that fun either. People like different things so you can give it a go if you want but I just didn't really enjoy it,

Yeh, sp potions aren't that expensive iirc. But still spending a potion after every fight is just as much of a hassle, and if you have a group you don't really need to either. Like really the optimal way of playing it is grinding through with groups, playing alone just makes it a lot harder. Especially some of the boss battles jesus, and as a melee I'd think that the bosses are pretty hard alone, because I could kite them fairly well with ranged but don't see how a melee with no heals can do it in a reasonable fashion. Like one of the early mid level bosses is a minotaur fella, we killed him with 4 dps and it still took forever. Doing that alone would just give me autism.
