Probably my favorite mecha show.
The only downfall is some of the best moments are callbacks to Gunbuster, which I thought was shit.

Stand alone, I believe it's worse than gunbuster. But viewing it as a continuation it's amazing.

It's fucking great. Whether it's better or worse than Gunbuster is really a matter of opinion, and kind of stupid thing to ponder, as without Gunbuster, Diebuster wouldn't exist, but it's at least an unusually excellent sequel. Especially for one made so many years after the original.

I loved all the callbacks to Gunbuster, and the way they tie in at the end. Several parts in both GB and DB brought tears to my eyes, but I'm a huge faggot about stuff like that. Character designs were great too, so many qt3.14s.

It seems to have some of the widest variation in opinions about it of any series
usually there are at most two or three opinions, but this has four or more.

Despite Diebuster being a sequel to Gunbuster, i don't really see how they're comparable, they're just far too different in tone, content and general feel. You wouldn't compare War in the Pocket to TTGL, the same comparison works here.
