So I was rewatched Inuyasha the other day for nostalgia and I realized it has the most consistent good op/edings of any anime considering how many there are. The openings are good but I'm especially talking about the endings.

Won't disagree with you there, it had a good selection of songs.

Too bad if the series were to be any good at all in pacing it would have cut more than half of that though.

In my digging I also found out the seventh ending come my way is actually a cover of Sophy monks song.

Both versions are great!

The art and music were very good.

Does anyone look back on Inuyasha and ask themselves why it appealed to them so much back when? I mean, specifically in the sense that I can't really think of a single character that I really liked. Both inuyasha and kagome are pretty bland characters, I think.

Maybe I was just a young gaijin, and the uniquely japanese brand of sensitive romance was exotic and captivating to me then.

Seriously, the influence Inuyasha had on me was so prominent that it prevented me from being able to relate to other kids. It ruined my social life. Turned me into a chuuni, I guess is how you say it.

Because back then you had to watch anime on a tv. It's like crack if shitty crack cocaine is the only cocaine available you're going to use the shitty cocaine. Only one anime channel you're going to watch whatever anime they show to get your fix. Also some people thought it was great because it was there was nothing much that came on tv to compare it to back then.
>>
>>133956713
I tried rewatching it recently and physically recoiled when I heard the English voices. It was like a psychological splash of unexpected cold water in the face. As a youth I must have had the patience of a saint.

You know, I needed a good old fashioned nostalgia show to watch; I just finished my other show. Thanks for pointing in this direction. I wouldn't mind checking this out again after so many years. It might help dull the pain of so many shitty filler episodes. Any good torrents, or at least shit ones to avoid?

I know that all might seem sarcastic, but I'm actually serious. It's been probably over a decade since I've seen an episode of this. All the crazy Tetsusaiga transformations, mah main nigga Sesshomaru's badassery, the black hole monk guy, and of course the boomerang waifu. Man I wanna rewatch this now.

last time I tried to rewatch the series I got bored before episode 10

nostalgia is good about erasing all the boring segments or making them seem less prevalent, but like 80% of this series is padding or filler or just not interesting.

>>
>>133957549
Yeah the present era episodes were the best. I meant the stuff where it's just "let's encounter another random village and fight the demon of the week or Naraku's latest incarnation" or whatever. So many eps where they do the exact same thing over and over.

I would trade half of Naraku's incarnations for a dozen more filler eps in modern Tokyo.

When I heard the voices for the first time in 10 odd years, they sounded like a couple of scratchy-voiced kids reading lines. Quite jarring, compared to my memories of the show, where I viewed them as being 'adult.' Ha, I remember thinking of Kagome as 'a grown up, adult woman,' because she was 15

Yea, I'm watching some clips on jewtube. You guys are right. This isn't a bad dub; it actually seems to be pretty high quality voice acting. It looks like it's just me. Interesting.
>>
>>133957569
Ah, those were actual canon episodes that just dragged on. But as a kid I really liked that sort of stuff. Re-watching it, I found the actual filler episodes really fun. The Love triangle and sango's drama was jarring but anytime there was an episode with Sesshomaru it was great.
>>
If only IY had taken itself seriously as a story, instead of going the cash cow route. Could've been legendary status.
>>
>>133957614
A lot of us just got really used to japanese voices in our anime that going back to the dub fucks us up. It's actually hard for me to watch inuyasha in Japanese just cause of nostalgia.
>>
>>133957695
The first few arcs were great, it just struggled when they kept naraku around for so fucking long. That fucker never stayed dead and in the end he was just doing all this evil shit cause kikyo wouldn't fuck him.
>>
>>133957663
>but anytime there was an episode with Sesshomaru it was great.
Everybody like Sesshoumaru. I have a feeling the manga readership in Japan was the same way and that's why he kept getting more and more focus. He got a loli too, so good for him.

Koga on the other hand. Did anybody even like that faggot?

IIRC Koga wasn't afraid of or intimidated by opening right up to Kagome and telling her just how he felt about her, and what he wanted from her. IIRC(x2), it wasn't just braggadocio, either. He was confidant with being expressive and sensitive in that way with her. To me, that was a much more appealing character trait than Inuyasha's petulant bullshit.

She had a point, it was to contrive conflict. She wandered around aimlessly until the plot needed her to do things so there could be conflict.

Although, as far as plot devices in anime go, Kekyo far from the most egregiously suspension breaking out there.
>>
>>133958045
What was even her goal again? I remember she sometimes helped Naraku and sometimes tried to kill him.
>>
>>133956556
When the pacing fuckery is removed I think it's a pretty tightly written story. It's really just a young during the Feudal period, some historyfags have something to like. There's also the case of Inuyasha's demon power so shounenfags had something to like. I mean there's just a lot going on that it's hard to call it a bad show, even with it's many issues.
>>
>>133955879
For all its faults, Inuyasha has a fantastic OST. I still listen to a lot of the music 10 years later.
>>
>>133957398
Dang this ED is so good. I still prefer the first ED though.
>>
>>133958034
How come? Compared to qt Kagome she was a bitchy cold fish. I mean, I lost interest and stopped watching around episode 50 or so, but I don't remember ever seeing a scene with Kiks and feeling moved by it. She's almost like a spook or something. Floating around silently, being miserable.
>>
>>133956451
Neat. I did not know that!
>>
>>133958093
Her goal was to cockblock the Inuyasha and Kagome at all costs.
>>
>>133958034
I don't know how. I mean, there were times I really disliked Kagome but I still preferred her to Kikyo because at the very least Kagome could be charming and cute.
>>
>>133958100
I agree somone needs to take the Roma and make a list of all the relevant episodes and the good filler episodes in order. That would make it a good rewatchable series.
>>
>>133958104
There was an episode that showed her past of when her and inuyasha first got together that I liked a lot. I don't really know why, I guess i just liked cold bitches. I didn't dislike Kagome or anything but that sit-boy shit was annoying.
>>
>>133958093
She didn't have a goal. Goals are for defined characters, Kikyo is a plot device who exists only to create obstacles for the protagonists. It's why there was never any coherent plan behind her actions.
>>
>>133958147
Show" not roma.
>>
>>133958009
>Else he might have become serious competition for the male lead
No, he would've just died in the next battle because he was too weak without his jewel fragments. Really, I think Koga got written out fine. The feuds he had with Inuyasha and Kikyo got resolved and he stopped rushing head-first into impossible odds and actually did something for his tribe rather than just being the brat who sent them all to their deaths in his debut. He even married Ayame in the anime.
>>
>>133958100
Damn, I butchered this.

*a story of young love

*so historyfags have something to like
>>
>>133958149
>I didn't dislike Kagome or anything but that sit-boy shit was annoying.

Yea, I never liked that shit either. It just seemed to contravene any serious character/relationship development they'd had prior. I never saw it as cute or endearing

>Oh, they're going to have a completely immature, petty, stupid, and "hilarious" fight again.

I would guess the shoujo market likes that kind of shit.
>>
>>133958156
>Kikyo is a plot device who exists only to create obstacles. It's why there was never any coherent plan behind her actions.

She's a well written female character
>>
>>133958147
I could. You really just need to cut out all the stuff that's not in the manga. The manga has some fillers but they're a lot better than most of the dire anime-original ones. You're still left with some shitty changes like heartfelt Inuyasha/Kagome moments being trashed for more tsundere comedy (Kikyo also got made into more of a bitch in a couple instances) and the final Inuyasha/Bankotsu fight being butchered, but what can you do.
>>
>>133958247
How does the manga stack up against the anime in your opinion?
>>
>>133958245
Is that why had nothing to do with the story unless it involved antagonizing Inuyasha? Cause that doesn't sound like a well written character, it sounds like a very flat character written to fill a simple role.

After a decade of exhaustive consideration, I would have to agree that Sango is objectively best girl
>>
>>133958298
I thought she was Kagome's foil. Where Kagome is more active in her demands on Inyusha, Kikyo is passive. This is how women are, they constantly shift between the two. The only thing here is that aspect is represented in two separate characters.

I always hated how Inuyasha was a moody, hot-and-cold dick to Kagome, but when Kikyo showed up he suddenly grew up and became stoic, considerate, and mature. Faggot. Even back then I recognized that Kagome's friend was right about the situation: in reality, Inuyasha would have been a wifebeating, perpetually adolescent douchebag of a partner.

>>133958289
The anime has some fucked up pacing after the first 20 or so manga volumes (70 or so episodes) with tons of fillers because it had caught up. It kept up this filler-heavy formula until it got axed in 2004 (it last adapted volume 35), then The Final Act condensed the remaining 21 volumes in 26 episodes. It completely butchered the Moryomaru arc (10 volumes were adapted in 5 episodes cutting a ton of stuff out), but the rest up to the end is actually pretty alright. What bothers me is that they'd often make changes to canon stories in terms of character interactions. There was this one story in particular that ended with Kagome admitting her love for Inuyasha to herself and the two making up after a fight and sitting together while the others watched from afar; in the anime, Inuyasha accidentally breaks Kagome's alarm clock and she gets mad again.
>>

Fan service doesn't mean explicit nudity you dipshit. It's any kind of treat thrown in by the creator(s) for the fans to enjoy. Usually it's connoted to mean sexual teases, things like panty shots or scenes of the girl naked or in her underwear that are totally gratuitous (not necessary to the plot). There's exactly one scene where Kagome is naked that is somewhat necessary to the plot, the rest is pure fanservice thrown in by Takahashi or the anime staff.

Was that yours? cause that's wrong. Which is the reason for my "changeable terminology" statement. Stop shitposting.
>>
>>133958878
It did have a lot of episodes didn't it.
>>
>>133958878
Inuyasha was caught in a cycle of repeating conflicts, then when Takahashi decided enough was enough she just halted the cycle. That's why it feels abrupt, and why some characters (like koga) were just unceremoniously written out of the story. Didn't need him to be a foil anymore, so he got removed. Didn't need Kagura around since Naraku was dying, so she got written off. And so on.
>>
Alright, I'm doing a watch-skip list based on what's in the manga. The first 52 episodes are all canon stuff from the manga, so they're wortj watching. I'll get on the rest in a bit.

I still can't believe I sat through about 70 episodes of this. I don't even remember it being that bad, it was just the same shit over and over again.
>>
The sad thing is with all the great anime out nowadays I don't think anybody is going to have the patience to watch inuyasha ever again. It's more of a slow pace relaxing show.

It's literally the definition of fanservice. Now fuck off.

Im glad to see this is fondly remembered. To date its still my favourite even after seeing 500+ shows, my its just nostalgia but Im always happy seeing all my boxsets on the shelf.

At the very least for being 15 years old, the art, animation, music and even the english dub are still great and have aged better than most other anime (mainstream or not) than I can think of.
>>
>>133958937
Canon doesn't necessarily mean worth watching with this series.
>>
>>133958982
It was Sunrise, wasn't it? They're always great.
>>
>>133958959
Stop it. User changeable definitions don't mean shit. Which reminds me...I need to add Gurren Lagann to Charlton Heston's IMBD and wiki pages.

Yes it was sunrise, I think kyoto also assisted with some episodes too
>>
>>133958952
Episode 70 is about where I lost interest, too. Where I realized the redundancy was never going to end

I was crushed. I lost sleep over it
>>
>>133959006
Making that decision is not up to me. I'm just making a list without the anime fillers, of which there are a ton in the latter half. And the first 52 episodes constantly introduce important characters, concepts and techniques, not to mention it's when most of the jewel shards are collected. I wouldn't recommend skipping any of it.
>>
>>133958982
>At the very least for being 15 years old, the art, animation, music and even the english dub are still great and have aged better than most other anime (mainstream or not) than I can think of.
Very true

Can you speak Nip now, anon kun senpai sama?
>>
>>133959013
>User changeable definitions don't mean shit.
It's the definition everybody else uses, deal with it.
>>
>>133959062
Cutting out the anime filler is a bad idea because some of it is genuinely better than the canon episodes.
>>
>>133959045
I stuck with it. I thought about giving up. I had the same feeling watching Ranma too. So much shit done over and over again gets tedious. But you know what? It really does make you feel like you have been on a journey when the end comes.
>>
>>133959063
Ehh very basic, 3 years of study
>>
>>133959114
>It really does make you feel like you have been on a journey when the end comes.

I guess. I would prefer a well written story. Even if it has to pause sometimes and just go full blown, hardcore, snails-pace SOL, I would prefer that to an endless series of contrived episodic dramas.
>>
I'm just so happy that not one person has listed another anime for consistent good op/endings
>>
>>133959084
Watch list (stuff adapted from the manga):
>1-58
>60-62
*63-64 are an anime original story with the same villain as 60-62 who's changed into surviving the previous arc. I'd just skip to the end of 64 which is the original ending of the previous arc in the manga.
>66-67
>69-70-71
>73-74
*79 is anime original but the very end of the episode is from the manga.
>80-82
*83-84 are from the manga but with an added anime original character whose backstory takes up most of 83.
>85-86
*87 is heavily expanded from the manga, where it's just a quick scene.
>88
>102-104
Halfway through. Will do the rest later.
>>
>>133959290
Fairy Tails
>>
>>133959343
You son of a bitch!
>>
>>133959103
Then everyone should just watch everything and form their own opinion, which is what I always do anyway. Since many people complain about the glacial pacing of the series however, I'm making this list to alleviate some of it and bring it closer to the manga, which mind you, is also slow but not nearly to the degree of the anime. What is "better" or "worth/not worth watching despite being anime filler/manga canon" isn't my concern here and it's not a decision I should make for everyone anyway.
>>
>>133959322
>105-126
*121-122 are a climatic battle with significant differences from the manga, so I'd recommend reading it too for the original experience.
*127-128 are anime original but each has a quick scene with Naraku that's from the manga.
>131-132
*135 is anime original with a scene featuring Kagura and the baby that's from the manga.
>141-146
*147-148 are anime original but they're an expanded backstory of things mentioned in the manga.
>149-161
>164-167
>all of The Final Act (1-26)
That said, this is still a slow-moving series and many anime episodes only adapt a couple manga chapters with some expansions here and there to pad them out. Don't go in expecting something fast-paced.
>>
>>133955879
It's too bad most of the full versions of those opening and endings are shit.

Th... That's a lame collection. I'm not even wondering where you bought those one bit. It's not like I'd care about silly things like anime key chains. No matter how adorable they might be.

Not really, I just bought a couple of them each time I went to an anime convention next to me every year and I ended up getting all the ones I could find.

>>133960177
I'm sure they can be easily found online for very cheap, but I bought them at a con. They were like 3€ apiece.

JUST fucking found out about The Final Act and I'm so mad. I remember distinctly at the age of 12 being so ass blasted I didn't know what to do with myself because "We'll never stop our mission!" or whatever that cheap one-liner was and now you're telling me nine years later there's a sequel?

>>
>>133960535
The original anime got cancelled in 2004 because of low ratings (thank the fillers for that), with the manga still ongoing. Manga eventually ended in 2008 and the anime adaptation of the rest of the story came out in 2009. Watch it, you owe it to yourself to see it through to the end after all this time. It's really satisfying too, as much shit as some people give Takahashi for Inuyasha, she definitely stuck the landing.

Another nice thing for Inuyasha is that it had a few of the best English-performed versions of its OPs/EDs around.

Now that I think of it, InuYasha feels like Twilight but in a good way.

Is this worth watching if I didn't watch it back in the day? All I remember about it is avoiding it because all the landwhale autsitic fujoshi at my school wouldn't shut up about it.
