I remember that thread! Do you have any of the other webms?
Namely the ones with nudes.I didn't save any of them at the time because I thought we'd always have the archive and we all know how that went down.
I still think
is a meme that people keep using simply because they're too new and like imitating what they see others do.
XD is probably not that bad as people make it out to be as long you're not being a complete asshole spamming its usage everywhere or completely retarded using it with nothing to add.
And I think it's not difficult to just accept certain norms when you are part of a community.
/a/ hates emoticons. Posting them is a sign that you need to lurk more or that you are intentionally breaking the rules.
In either case, you're in the wrong.
Unless you're being retarded and associating global rule 6 with emoticons, I really doubt there's any rule that it breaks.
Assuming mob mentality against emoticons is fine and all, but that doesn't mean you can blatantly claim things. I'll agree its cancer, but it shouldn't be called out every time on its rare occasions.
I call rare cancer out more than I do rampant cancer. It's just not worth the effort to try and attack every single niggerposter nowadays. But cancer that shows up rarely and that almost every regular /a/ user avoids is the stuff worth calling out, in my opinion.
Does anyone have the picture when /a/ changed all the names on the 50 states map?
Remember the fucking flood when
That's why I stopped making cancer pyramids.
At least the cancer of old had personality. The cancer of today is just reposted cancer from 5 years ago.
If you look at some of the other boards, it is a win. From looking over all the boards before and after, it may has well have saved /pol/ despite people trying to work around it. But it's practically full of kids anyways. Other boards carried on because it made no difference to them whether or not it was nigger shit or weaboo shit. But for /a/, it only made it so crossboarders didn't stand out. I don't think it will be cool anymore now that some of the other boards aren't doing it. It'll die out, but I'm not sure that niggerposting would have. Have you seen how long boards stick to the same old memes? /a/ might do so, but compared to other boards they aren't spewed every other post.
And this was the last one.
/a/ got REALLY bad from mid-2012 until about mid-2014, then it started getting tolerable again.
Just imagine, anon: There was once a time on 4chan when generals DIDN'T EVEN EXIST.
Think about that.
>then it started getting tolerable again
2015 has been completely shit in my opinion. I'd like to think it's gotten better slightly in the last few months, but who knows. From a mangafag perspective, it's been pretty awful. Especially 2014. /a/ follows even less manga than ever. And it's all pretty much garbage.
> And it's all pretty much garbage.
I disagree, we've had some nice threads for IB and Tsugumomo and stuff this year. 2014 was pretty bad manga-wise, though, yeah.
You are the cancer.
The thing is, when people used to get bored, they did random shit (instead all of this circlejerking garbage everyone does now). Like, the last time people divided up images to redraw them was ages ago. As I recall, the last one was during when SnK aired in 2013. That is when I think everything really just turned to shit.
God knows why people save get shit and claim its funny or "a great moment on /a/" it's the biggest cancer related thing ever.
Looks like someone has never got repeating digits. Oh and for the record the biggest cancer on /a/ are the tripfags.
The drawfag threads have been going on FOR. THAT. LONG.
I remember when the drawfag threads first started. They constantly kept getting banned by the mods. Eventually, the mods gave up.
And now, you have what you see today.
From an outsider perspective, it doesn't look like /v/ has much of a generals problem though. Sure they have other problems, but not this one. Even if it's not true, first impressions count and from what I can tell, other boards evidently know /a/ is full of generals.
>FUCKING ATEM H4X
Shite, it's hard to believe /a/ really talked like that back then. I wonder if this is what it's like for Norweigans to revere their proud Viking ancestors and then be reminded they were basically niggers.
I think his point is that having random activity threads like the other anon was talking about doesn't stop generals cancer from happening, since /v/ had both until they got a containment board.
That Draw Troll entry is the entire general situation in a nutshell. Mods aren't willing to deal with generals on the offchance they accidentally delete a thread where a chapter just came out.
If it was 133333332, I had literally no impact in what happened. You posted too early.
If it was 133333334...better luck next time. I have gotten two millions on /b/ and three on /v/, but only ONE on /a/, and there's a good reason for that: /a/ is one of the hardest boards to get major GETs on.
It ebbs and flows.
It saddens me to think that /vg/ will soon pass /a/ making /a/ the fourth largest board on 4chan for the first time in its history.
I argue that the worst thing that plagues /a/ right now is the stupid amount of reposts(threads/replies).
Nothing new is being produced because everyone keeps reusing the same images(specifically for threadstarters) along with the same text. Newfags see this and monkey see monkey do. Seriously, it happens every fucking day. A good thread is made, then someone else copies it image for image and word for word and reposts it to death. Then newfags see this and try to do the same only with worst, dummer shit.
Every time there's OC that's not putting le meme text on top of an image, people complain and tells the poster to go back to reddit. That's neo-/a/ for you.
Back to the reposts. It is fucking painful. As someone who lurks for the majority of his browsing sessions, I hate seeing the same shit over and over again because people think there's value in someone dedicating his worthless time to reposting the exact same thing every single day.
You open every general thread and compare them. They're all about the same. First for X, X is best, Why did X, Which X would you Y, X > Y > Z, and they're all just bumps to keep the thread off page 10. Is there no cognition in these people's heads?
Yeah, it was 133333334.
I'm not that mad about it I guess since I really only go off of a general sense of timing, which in that case, off by one is pretty good.
I got a pretty good GET back in February or March. It was more like a string a GETS in one thread, so the last one was pretty hyped up.
It's an awful spiral. You go there originally because you like X game, and you like talking to people who talk about X game.
You play X game possibly every day, or every other day. You go to the threads even when you're not playing because people talk about the game.
Then you go there out of habit. You have it open while you're browse other boards normally, and go back to it to post every now and then. And it just stays that way till you can break the cycle.
But it's not that we're getting smaller, it's that the other boards are getting bigger. Actually, I think we technically are getting smaller, but that's not the problem.
I gotta agree that 2015 has been absolutely awful year for /a/. I've always been more or less tolerant, but I really feel like the quality of the board dropped drastically after the comfy Christmas threads in 2014.
Trust me, anon: I know the dreaded feeling of being off by 1. It was the main reason why I made Cirno being off by 1 a thing.
As I said with my 133333333 though, you should NEVER give up. The next time a big GET comes around, don't be discouraged: prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
It's not surprising, but I don't think it's good to be a well-known board on a site increasingly full of newfags who don't come here for anime. It just contaminates us more and more.
Someone really needs to write a pasta. In the same way that Naruto pasta probably made some Narutofags reconsider their positions, there's a bunch of people who would just ditch the threads if someone told them to.
plz kog stop warping reality
Effort is everything. I hate people pointing out someone getting trips when it has no context, but stuff like watching people spamming Haruhi aiming for the 88888888 get was great fun.
>Eventually, the mods gave up
Boy, if I had a nickel for every time I've been disgusted by that happening.
Is there anybody who was here when the Rebuilds were first announced? If so what was it like?
I said the same thing in 2008. Now, /a/ is twice as fast as 2008 /v/ was.
People were complaining in 2008 as well about the cancer on /a/. I believe it was called endless summer.
It's late, alright.
I don't think /a/ is too quick now, but I think 2009 was my favorite.
I don't know what goes on these people's heads.
I don't really want to know. But I despise them very much. I'll go insane eventually if I see enough of the same shit enough times.
Were there generals though? Or well at least constant ones? If not, you can have my honourary best fanbase of the year. I haven't posted much this year, but I can't really place a decent fanbase at all. I was hoping to watch Arslan but the threads turned out to be the gayest fucking threads I have seen in a while. Even blatantly homo series had nothing on it.
>april fools joke
But I didn't mean it as a joke. I really, really want this.
General threads were a natural evolution, regardless of their faults. The site became more popular. It is more convenient to find a single, main thread for a series than to find 10 separate threads all with a similar number of posts and quickly abandoned after whatever singular topic runs out of steam.
Don't jump on me about how they may have made things worse because I'm not arguing one way or the other.
You could say anything you want then use a blox related to the post.
It's really pointless. Unless you ban the words blox or something. On a board as fast as /a/ or /v/ people would probably just type random shit at the bottom of their post.
I didn't watch Symphogear, but I'll give them credit for keeping their shit in their thread and not spamming it everywhere even when they had 1000-post threads for new episodes.
I'll probably be off by 1, but I'll try anyway.
You couldn't implement the robot on /int/ since /int/ uses a lot of unicode characters.
I think the issue is that having a thread for a series that won't die even when the topic does isn't what should happen. If there's nothing to talk about, let it die.
I wouldn't mind reposts sometimes if it's being used in a unique way but the way things are right now my paranoia leads me to believe there is some kind of organized shitposting movement where people go to the archive and steal posts there to repost in acive threads.
Or even worst, neo-/a/ is made up of people who can't think for themselves and truly believe what they're doing, reposting things and even talking, using the same phrases word for word that others use, is cool and is what 4chan is about.
But, like others have said, it's not hard to get around and wouldn't really do much aside from encouraging contrarians to deliberately shitpost around it.
There isn't much of a choice. If there's a 200+ post metathread about an anime and you try to make another thread, you will literally be BANNED by the mods. The generals have a monopoly over anime discussion on this board.
>where people go to the archive and steal posts there to repost
I wonder if Endless Eight threads have more unique posts than the average general thread now. It's probably about the same.
But truthfully, the amount of people who don't know about the archive is crazy. Like even before moe died. People really don't know about 4chan-X or neet.
Not that anon and not a general supporter, but to be fair it's pretty convenient and easy to just open the catalog and ctrl+f to find a thread of an ongoing anime I watch. I don't have the time to lurk /a/ 15 hours a day anymore on most days, like 8 years ago. So for ongoing anime I could understand it. Fuck everything about stuff like Jojo or madoka type generals though.
Also you have the autistic idiots every season playing oldfag making threads complaining about how One-Punch Man/Fate/Umaru/whatever other random shit gets spammed that season has 7 or 10 threads up at the same time and call it absolute cancer. I mean you can shit on their fanbases all you want. They're not much different than us 7-9 years ago. People just grow older.
Even for people who hate generals, it is difficult not to naturally be drawn towards them because of the higher number of posters potentially viewing that thread.
But I don't think that is the problem. There isn't anything wrong with posting in one thread over another of the same kind because it has more people viewing that thread. The problem is these generals become filled with endless reposts that spread from one general's current thread to the next one after that one dies.
>le daily reminder
>le image dump because we don't actually want to talk about the show and just blogshit while avatarfagging
They're generals and have some cancer but are mostly free of /soc/ bullshit that stuff like Madoka does, or at least they didn't earlier this year when I finally got tired of One Piece. They loved having the same arguments over and over, though - power level debates and theories that people proposed four years ago and have yet to be proven either way, and shit like that.
I don't even mind "first for" depending on what you're doing with it. If you're just looking to reopen some shitflinging that happened yesterday and the day before and the day before, that's bad, but if it's just a filler phrase to go with a relevant image or opinion that you'd be posting anyway, then I don't care.
I think a potential problem is that Naruto ended and some of those lost souls wandered around for a new shonen and went there.
But they don't care about the world and humour and just want want more Marinefords and power discussion
Is it sad that that thread was over 6 and a half years ago and I can STILL recognize which posts were just me samefagging?
It has to be true some of the time. And if it's true some of the time, it might catch on.
I lurk pretty every day and browse through the catalog so noticing these kinds of things is inevitable. The patterns of threads being posted and that will be posted. I can almost always predict what replies certain threads will get or if that thread will get replies at all.
So just by paying attention, you can really see it happen some times. A thread with the exact image and the exact text as one that happened a few days before. You can only assume that it's the same OP who is asspained his thread didn't become popular or it's someone who stole his post because it was popular.
Last threads I really enjoyed before they turned full on cancerous generals were Tokyo Ghoul 1 and a half years ago. Before the anime and before the manga became any popular. Anons came up with the most autistic of theories and speculations all the time. It was fun and interesting.
I haven't posted in them in over 1 year and only go there for spoilers these days. I don't evne read the rest of the posts.
I miss those days. But now if you make a thread about a popular series, half the posts are bitches saying
>TAKE IT TO THE GENERAL FAGGOT
As if other threads are so important they deserve to linger on Page 10.
Less than 15%. According to Moot back on /q/, visible sage was used by almost 30% of the userbase at any given time, which was too many because sage was never intended to be a form of "downvoting" just a way to post without bumping a thread because you thought it didn't deserve to be bumped to page 1. So he deactivated visible sage and made it so that having Sage in your name as a substitute would just fail your post, so that people would use Sage more judiciously, like sprinkling it on chicken.
>I'm going to post this everyday until you like it!
>I thought I wanted to do it once le hiroshima.jpg
>But he did it once le hiro-tan.jpg
>tfw this is actually a general thread in disguise
We seem to be having a lot of meta-nostalgia threads popping up,
on /v/ too.
Is it because of the holiday season?
Will we be doing our r/a/dio jams together and our annual circlejerk?
They're on the verge of self-imploding. There's not even tumblr-tier OC, it's just shitposters calling out shitposters, samefagging and X-fag wars instead of wars over the actual characters. It's unbelievably insane and autistic.
I like Sakurafish but I don't like that one fish-avatarfagging guy who does the hiro shtick.
It's also filled with mostly reposts from previous threads.
Why don't they make any new content or have some kind of real discussion?
It is fucking depressing. I've been gone for a long time and the first thing I see is a rec thread, not even a subtle one.
People just can't sage report and hide anymore. Everyone has to bloody reply.
Bring back visible sage and the text boards.
Hiroyuki, please kill 4chan. What it needs is to lose popularity.
short for "family"
It took me weeks to realize as well.
It most certainly is because of the holiday season. You're going to see more and more nostalgia threads pop up during Thanksgiving and into Christmas.
I started browsing in 2010 and for around two years all I did was lurk.
Around this time lurk more was a thing and people didn't spoonfeed(and if they did it would be in an elaborate way) so I was often afraid of posting something that would piss off everyone. I didn't use emoticons and never asked for sauce.
There was a sense of culture and board unity.
Nowadays, when new people come here they start posting right away and never lurk because 4chan has become such a relaxed environment now that there's no reason to. There will always be a less-new-newfag to spoonfeed someone. There will always be less-new-newfags pretending to be oldfags and telling the people who complain about newfags that they're trying too hard to fit in.
Is there any versions of those of 2012?
Do you ever crossboard and shitpost with anime just for the sake of it?
You shouldn't even need to lurk much to learn not to post emoticons. It should take all of five minutes to notice that they aren't used here. Is the idea of not using textspeak on the internet actually foreign to people these days?
Senpai Fan Fan a shit! A SHIT!
I actually tried replying with her to senpai posters for a while but most probably didn't even get the reference.
No. Like I said, I stopped making those types of things near the end of 2011 as that was when /a/ reached its lowest point ever. /a/ has just barely started to recover in mid-2014, but it has a LONG way to go. In fact, /a/ may never return to the way it once was.
>Around this time lurk more was a thing and people didn't spoonfeed(and if they did it would be in an elaborate way) so I was often afraid of posting something that would piss off everyone. I didn't use emoticons and never asked for sauce.
>There was a sense of culture and board unity.
I can relate to this. /a/ should be more offensive again.
I only have anime images for the most part, so it's what I use on other boards.
I don't shitpost on other boards though, when I go, it's usually because for a discussion on whatever that boards topic is.
I guess a lot of people use anime to shitpost on /g/ though. Browsing /g/ is actually what made me hate /v/ so much.
No idea but those threads don't even get to 100 replies these days
It's kind of sad
But it's probably because people go into that thread and then see the same shit posted every single time so they brush it off.
But honestly, even if Sakurafish is a legacy thing, it would be for the best if it were stopped. Newfags come and see it then think that they can become cool by reposting the same thing over and over again everyday.
I think the problem is that right now no one comes here to lurk. They come to 4chan to meme and argue about pointless shit, because there's no real OC or interesting discussions in almost any thread, so you don't get anything out of reading them if you don't post.
/g/ hasn't been browseable in years. I just can't justify it. Sometime in 2012, I was just staring at the endless battlestation and desktop threads and thought, this must be what it is like to be dead inside.
"trying too hard to fit in" fags have never been taken seriously. Just ignore them, or better yet, explain why they're wrong. No one even bothers with this anymore.
I have never seen anyone call ;_; reddit-tier. But the mods really do need to do something about this ":^)" shit being used in place of an image. Being a stupid fuck posting from your phone isn't have an excuse.
On another note, what kind of OC would you like to see on /a/?
I rarely make threads, maybe once or twice a month, but they're usually only loosely related to anime/manga. I always edit images and make fresh content for these threads. Since lurking from 2010, I had always been in love with seeing caps of legacy epic threads that happened in the past and aspire to reach that level with my occasional thread. I had some successful ones but also many failures.
blue ribbons and fedora-kun for example
>posting from your phone
I keep forgetting this is a thing.
I'm not sure what you mean. Generals seem like a protective hub against /a/'s policy. I don't browse generals, but I've been to the Jojo and SnK generals a while ago. Nobody bothers going there, so there's a lot of /v/-tier shitposting that isn't called out. Generals should be wiped.
I still don't understand why mods warn people for reporting emoticons.
I always like stuff from different series edited together. It's fun seeing the connections people make. There were some Ideon-Bahamut ones last year that were pretty good, and occasionally WEG threads have good ones.
The color blue is the strongest!
Also, eye hope eye'm not off by 1.
>post takes 10 seconds to go through, worried I'm going to be way over
>check to see post
This is the latest installment of my shitposting if you weren't able to see it
On 4chan? 14, I think. On /a/? Probably 16-17. I instantly realized that the average /a/ user was on another level compared to me, so I lurked until my powerlevel increased. [sspoiler] I've never actually discussed anime that much on here though. I don't come here to talk because I like anime, I come here to talk because I like you. [/spoiler]
Bullying me is fine, but using that shitposting emoticon is unforgivable. Kill yourself.
I did it twice. Maybe I'll kill myself too.
Shit son, you fucked up again.
You now realize that KoG has had only 1 waifu, Cirno, and has been loyal to her for OVER EIGHT YEARS now.
Is there anyone else on /a/ who could say the same?
Does anyone even come close to KoG's level of dedication?
Yeah, SHiN cheating on his waifu SEVERAL times. I even got some quints about it.
I remember the days when I used to have a legit anime thread, a GET thread, and a cancerous metathread all up at the same time.
Being young sure is great.
Didn't Sheldon cheat on Azusa too though? After he got tired of getting trolled on /a/ and retreated to MAL, that is.
Sage was never meant to be "aggressive". Goddamn you're talking about it as though you understand while at the same time clearly clueless. Try lurking some 2ch and 2chan boards to get a feel for it. Their saged posts are indicated in the name and post number row/field.
The purpose is to keep a thread not bumped to the first page of the board. It isn't and never give off an edgy vibe.
Even now in 2015, I still daydream about Cirno multiple times a day.
I sometimes wonder if I've lost my mind...
This is a meta thread, newfag. We use these to voice our opinions because for over a decade m00t and his faggot friends have banned all forms of criticism that could lead them to understanding that at the end of the day they are still faggot goons and that shii ripped of world2 and futaba.
Then much later you came with your faggot friends and cemented the future of this site. Hope you're happy, "senpai".
EoP is legitimate, though.
You cannot get pissy at being an EoP is you are happy to tell dubfags and streamfags to fuck off.
There is no excuse for being an EoP. It would be like defending tards on /co/ for not being able to read English. Like it or not, /a/ wasn't created for outsiders, it was made for people with legitimate interests. By default EoPs are tertiary and are on the same level as facebook fags who argue about power level shit on youtube clips of Dragon Ball xyz.
Patrick Bateman falls in love with his dubs.
Unable to confess, he is gifted by a deus ex machina with dub-finding bot. Never minding the strange repeating digits, he immediately uses it, and is overjoyed to find out that the dubs have a crush on him as well.
But, the next day, when he engages in more dubs getting ways, he instead acquires singles. Confused by these turn of events, the Wall Street businessman investigates and finds out that the dubs he made is not the same dubs he fell in love with. In fact, the dubs don't exist in this universe at all. They are dubs from an alternate universe, who has fallen in love with the MC's own psycho self, who too is blissfully unaware of their crush.
Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While they shitpost all over 4chan, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of DUBS.
>tfw can't even look at a girl wearing a blue dress, wearing a blue bow, or having light blue dyed hair without thinking of Cirno
>tfw I'm going to die alone
with Cirno in my heart ;_;
>If there's nothing to talk about, let it die.
This, I like jojo and HxH but the thread are shit because there's nothing left to discuss so half the post are off topic / image dump. They're like chatroom for people who happen to like the same anime/manga. Say what you want about fate and it's fanbase but they have one of the only tolerable general because they're talking about the VN and it's spin off instead of circlejerking.
I wish people would stop being so hostile towards each others waifus
>people pointing out the overuse of periods
>not even noticing the misuse of "you're"
There was once a time in the past where threads like these would have been deleted in minutes.
Then, Hiroyuki came along and granted us freedom.
Thank you, Hiroyuki.
It wasn't too long ago that the OPM threads were relatively nice when it was manga only. It's honestly a shame that it brought in so many crossboarders because it's not THAT bad but the people feel the need to say it's shit to scare off the crossboarders or never read the manga.
I felt like most of /a/ liked it until the anime came along and now everyone hates it.
/a/ is a pile of shit and I enjoy none of you.
All I do is lurk 99% of the time and get irritated by the nonsensical and hypocritical nonsense I read here on a near hourly basis.
Is that a new version? I don't think I recall I have that saved.
>Gets were already not gotten though.
I can always try
Where else is there to go.
When 4chan introduced ads for the first time JList shoved their big ass deep in to it. One of the text on it was "Life-like texture ;_;" for what I remember was no reason.
That's why ;_; is accepted. Newfags will ALWAYS disagree because they have no idea of this fact.
Fucking learn japanese or some shit instead of lurking threads you hate. Or try this new thing that's called real world. Work out for your waifu, just don't waste time you don't enjoy.
The episode where the screenshot came from? Yeah.
>Or try this new thing that's called real world
Don't fuck with me.
I really don't see how people enjoy this website but I've been on it for quite some time now. It's the same rehashed shit the majority of the time but I can't really break away from it. I'm genuinely annoyed by almost every single thread I see and I don't know why.
It's bizarre, but I digress.
>Work out for your waifu
Highly recommended, waifus love it
Emoticons get deleted for shitposting. Deluding yourself into thinking that they are not against the rules when they clearly being treated as rule violations is the retarded thing to do.
y-you didn't see any typos you hear?
Have you guys seen Attack on Titan, you should go buy the 6 Blu-ray boxset for only the cheap price of 650 USD and if you buy today, you can get your very own super rare Mikasa holofoil trading card
while stocks last.
Lurked since 2008 and started posting regularly since 2010. Pretty much new/cancer.
I don't get it when some say this, how can you go on 4chan for 3 years without going on /a/?
/a/ is the only board I've ever consistently browsed besides occasional visits to
Are you a time traveler? How was Eva 4.0? Haruhi S3 when? Spice and wolf S3 when?
3.0 + 1.0 didn't get dubbed due to issues with Anno so I didn't watch it.
Haruhi Season 3 was not well received. It was animated by Trigger.
Spice and Wolf season three was cancelled due to lack of interest, much like dinner and birthdays.
>I don't get it when some say this, how can you go on 4chan for 3 years without going on /a/?
Because like the majority of people here I found out about 4chan through /b/.
After my year there I switched to /sp/ and /v/. The only reason why I started watching anime (and subsequently came here) was because of people posting K-on! pictures in /sp/ game threads. Mugi was cute enough to bring me here in 2013.
/sp/ is the only reason why I'm here. Can't think of the last time I spent more than 5 minutes on /v/. Moved onto /vr/ instead. Still go on /sp/, but fuck has it gotten bad over the past two or so years. At least the wwe generals got moved to /asp/
I'm sorta the same as you (2008, then started regularly posting on/a/ around that time as well.)
I actually started in /w/ then made my way to /c/ then eventually /a/.
Used to just go to 4chan for animu pictures and stuff.
