I don't think a threat needs to have a quirk to be threatening, necessarily. Stain has quite a weak quirk, even. Every superhero story needs its Batman.

Initially I thought Dabi would obviously have a flame projection quirk but now I'm not as sure, because obviously both Endeavour and Todoroki have that. Something different would be more interesting.

Horikoshi clearly likes it but that doesn't mean it's good. It had two rescue arcs for the same side-character within the first twenty chapters, Shiina's endless "I only do what's fun and being with my nakama is fun so I'm going to fight to protect the things I care about" got old painfully fast and most of the side characters were boring and repetitive. It was a clear victim of editors pushing to make it more generic combined with Horikoshi having no idea how to pace an arc.

Horikoshi is weirdly attentive to this sort of stuff. He constantly slips back into calling her Asui because he's an overly polite dork. In the moonrunes he very rarely uses plain forms- he's generally polite to the point where IRL he'd get made fun of for being, as mentioned, and overly polite dork. Fitting really.

Speaking like that to good friends or people you're really familiar with would likely get you a "Stop talking to me like you're my grandmother!"

As a filthy gaijin however in Japan excessive politeness is generally as a sign you're not totally familiar with Japanese, or that you're terrified of offending people. Most people will ignore it or consider it kind of endearing.

I for real no-joke hope Horikoshi goes for some classic cape comic plot twists that never happen in Shounen.

Personally I know that Japanese readers would flip the fuck out and drop the series but I'd love to see Horikoshi do the tried and true "Hero suffers false death" cliche.

Have Midoriya AND All Might die in the same arc. All Might for real, Midoriya not. Make it a brutal double gut-punch, complete with a funeral and emotional breakdowns and stages-of-grief arcs for the main cast. Then literally go a full arc or two with him "dead", maybe even have one of his friends step up and take his mantle and everyone have to muddle on without him and then have him come back from the dead at the critical moment.

Granted when Superman did it, it was fucking awful but Batman, Spidey, and others have done this and had some really fucking fantastic comics come out of it. Peter Parker's death/funeral in particular was fantastic.

Not that other anon, but you can only go so far with language before you have to change the ranking to 16+ instead of 13+. Which is fucking stupid, but the rankings there are completely out of their hands.

As for the translation itself: Viz fucks up occasionally (crossing my fingers and hoping they'll fix it in the volume releases), but their overall accuracy is better.

It might help that a hefty number of people have bizarre body changes from their quirks. The BnHA world in general seems to be more accepting towards people looking different, so people coming up to him and asking questions may be less commonplace than it would be here.
