Everytime ive read or watched berserk it always came off as trying way to hard to be super cool and really grimdark. It just tries so hard it falls flat for me. That man can draw though.

The movies are better for a "Griffith did nothing wrong" experience. The cuts make him seem more likable.

I thought he handled the pacing better than that. It gets lighter as it goes along, and Puck helps plenty. It's a very hard balance to get right, see Hellsing, FMA et al.
