Ok /a/, I watched a couple episodes back when I was a kid, and I enjoyed them, so I had decided to take a trip down memory lane and watch the series now that I had a bit of free time.
Then I found out it's 800 episodes long and still ongoing decades later.
What the fuck.
How do I even begin, is it even worth beginning at all?
The thing is I am a completionist by heart. If I start something, I won't let it go until I'm through with it, and something nearing the thousands eps is a big commitment.
How does it age? How are the newer eps compared to the older ones? Is the filler worth watching? How close is it to actually end?
I have too many questions.
Conan is absolutely worth watching. If you enjoyed the older episodes, you will certainly enjoy the newer ones, especially the plot ones. Seriously, the plot episodes in this show are just so ridiculously off the charts good it's not even funny.
The hard part is that it's a big time investment because the series doesn't really start to get going until episode 129, with big breakthroughs every hundred or so. But if you like it then this is what adds to the suspense that makes the show so great.
>How does it age?
It definitely ages well. The older episodes certainly have a different tone to them though and I feel like a lot of people prefer the old 'filler' to the new 'filler' but really if you enjoy mysteries you will like pretty much any episode, old or new.
>How close is it to actually end?
That's pretty hard to tell. With the amount of loose ends right now I could easily see it going for at least 300 more episodes.
>How does it age
It's still pretty good, but even though the animation ''improved'' it doesn't look as good as it used to, it kinda lost that charming art style, but it stil has goat soundtracks and it's a fun watch.
It's still a long road to the end though
>mfw I don't want the manga to spoil the anime for me so I have to wait for new Sera stuff
>Black Org centric movie.
>there is a big storm, the police will not come until dawn
Isolated villa cases are the best.
>How does it age
Like a fine wine, in my opinion
>How are the newer eps compared to the older ones?
Personally, I prefer the older style animation. But the new ones are perfectly fine.
>Is the filler worth watching?
I enjoy them. They're comfy.
>How close is it to actually end?
4 Captured in Her Eyes > 14 The Lost Ship in the Sky > 18 Dimensional Sniper > 15 Quarter of Silence > 13 The Raven Chaser > 8 Magician of the Silver Sky > 3 The Last Wizard of the Century > 9 Strategy Above the Depths > 17 Private Eye in the Distant Sea > 2 The Fourteenth Target > 16 The Eleventh Striker > 5 Countdown to Heaven > 6 The Phantom of Baker Street > 1 The Time-Bombed Skyscraper > 7 Crossroad in the Ancient Capital > 10 The Private Eyes' Requiem > 11 Jolly Roger in the Deep Azure > 12 Full Score of Fear
Everyone in Detective Conan says サーカ tho.
So soccer is the correct thing to say when talking about an anime that has soccer in it.
Stop being a buttblasted brit and say things correctly.
>Gosho has the ending of Conan in a vault in case
inb4 he's found in the room with the vault, murdered, in a puddle of water, with the vault locked but empty except for another puddle of water, and the door to the room also locked
Also there's water on the floor outside the room
I doubt that.
Martin is writing this shit by the seat of his pants.
That's why after introducing a bunch of new characters he realizes he has too many and kills all most of the old ones.
Completely forgot the 'movie' part of the filename.
Just realized La Pompon is doing another cover of an old OP (the one right after Nazo in fact), which is going to be the new ED next year.
Their Nazo wasn't that bad though.
Op Conan isn't something your gonna wanna binge watch a lot of the cases can be hit or miss but as most have pointed out its comfy as fuck. I would highly suggest what some have said already watch em a little at a time and don't binge other wise you'll get bored easliy
Still looking forward to that 20th Anniversary OP.
I (still) enjoy the 10th with Mai Kuraki's Growing of my Heart. It just happened to be taking place during plot but the OP itself felt like it was ushering in a new era of Conan with how positive and fast-paced it was (especially compared to earlier OPs).
Threadly reminder that it's universally agreed Haibara is the best girl already. The author just needs to give in.
>being this wrong
Haibara > Vermouth > Eri > Satou > Yukiko > Sera > Kazuha > Sonoko > Jodie > Aoko > Yumi > Naeko > Yoko > Kobayashi > Ayumi > Ran
Kogoro > Takagi > everyone else > Genta
Haibara is a boring normalfag with mediocre intelligence, who can't be relied on or used in any real capacity.
Whenever Conan confides in her, she offers absolutely nothing substantial to his investigation.
>Ran at the bottom.
>Why everyone has pointy noses like rhinos?
Because the author got lazy over the years.
following the fucking show isn't an optional requirement for talking about the characters
Does Yusaku Kudo ever say anything about Kaito Kid? He knows who the original Kaito was and he knows that he is dead. A guy that loves mysteries like him should be concerned about this.
>Conan didn't tell the FBI about the drug shrinking him
We talk about who is best girl all the time, when we should be asking what case is best case.
I vote for The Twenty Year Old Murderous Intent: The Symphony Serial Murder Case
First time the show stumped me, and I didn't feel cheated when they did the reveal.
i'm on 456, with the episode oddly enough called The Mystery I Loved
it's nice to pick it up once in a while, and come back. it's not like there's any huge milestones that you have to remember other than characters.
i kinda see it like the simpsons or family guy. just watch it when you want for the individual episodes
are you gonna watch every episode of the simpsons, op?
Just watch the episodes that came before they changed the artstyle.
Aoyama insulted his fans, ruined his legacy and thoroughly and utterly embarrassed himself by letting the change happen.
She solved a case, kept up with Kid tricks and regularly trolls the other "geniuses". This without mentioning some tricks she uses in some cases to relay messages to Conan without anyone else realizing, and tricking people in general. The entire hoax during The Desperate Revival was her plan.
>She solved a case
>kept up with Kid tricks
Not even once
>regularly trolls the other "geniuses"
>some tricks she uses in some cases to relay messages to Conan
>The entire hoax during The Desperate Revival was her plan
Bullshit, it was conan's plan
Sonoko is one of the most annoying characters in the show.
Kazuha is inferior to Ran in basically every way, especially her Aikido.
I would watch only the MIB/ BO ones, those where Kudo grows up, those with Kaito Kid and those with Heiji Hattori and call it a day.
Oh, and i would avoid the detective kid ones like they where cancer.
that's cool man, everyone's entitled to their own shit tastes
so how's that naruto coming along?
>the series doesn't really start to get going until episode 129, with big breakthroughs every hundred or so
>They wouldn't lie, would they?
The Karuta Card case is canon
>Not even once
Kirin's Horn heist
This is egregious because her introduction literally has her playing Conan like a fiddle for an entire hour just for her amusement
a lot of canons, the first that comes to mind is the one in which she uses the mushrooms to indicate the culprit with a twist that only Conan could get
>Bullshit, it was conan's plan
Episode 190 from minute 5:30 to 6:30, or chapter 255 page 5
You should stage your death but in a twist in order to shock the audience do it for real.
>stage your death but in a twist in order to shock the audience do it for real.
>tfw everyone gets a waifu/husbando except for Haibara
>tfw Vermouth wants to kill Sherry actually because of a perceived rivalry for Gin's attentions
Gosho really knows how to draw them healthy.
See, Rum is actually three different people, taking turns as the agent or working in tadem for maximum deniability.
She was one of those as a double agent, but got found out and apotoxxed.
She survived and she is now in hiding.
>mfw I'm okay with this.
Also, why is she always coughing? That's got to be important right?
For me straight up since I started watching Conan last year around this time I have maybe gone 5 days total without watching at least one episode. The show is just too good to stop watching even after you've finished it.
So that's where her son picked up that bad habit.
>She survived and she is now in hiding.
And she does the same thing as Haibara: always wearing a hat when she's out in public. That's the weakness of the Black Organization, they cannot see through hats.
Kid, he saved and outsmarted Conan several times in the past. He even seems to know who the culprit is before Conan a lot of times and gave Conan a very important hint in that one painting case.
The only reason conan got Kid in the train arc was because Kid thought it would be an easy stealing and wasn't expecting smart people to show up.
>The only reason conan got Kid in the train arc was because Kid thought it would be an easy stealing and wasn't expecting smart people to show up.
Small people, you mean. Conan could see through his ventriloquism only because he had to look up to see them talking.
Has a nice beat.
I wouldn't let the dub hinder you, especially since the dub stopped conveniently before Haibara's introduction therefore leaving you with nothing. While I too preferred the dub, there's little wrong with continuing in "the original" voices.
Also to expand on this, you don't get the arbitrary solutions that happened in the dub (that really started popping up near the end) involving Japanese kanji, culture, word play, and history.
Alternatively, you get whatever the fansubs feel like explaining. At least you can be somewhat confused with the proper explanation instead of the english dub contradicting everything on screen.
Well maybe if it was earlier on in the series it would have less impact (on the romance plot and her character). However, considering how much romance has been done through his original body then strung along through Conan, one can imagine the shock that would bring (despite her constant doubts).
The other reason provided is she'd be a liability in the fight against the BO. There may be a few who play favorites due to the past (Vermouth) but if Ran decides to "help out" there's no way to reliably keep her in check.
>tfw you'll probably live long enough to be in a world in which Detective Conan is no longer ongoing
>Basically tell's Haibara he knew her sister
>Nothing about this is ever mentioned again
If Conan didn't want Haibara to track him and he couldn't find the spare pair of tracking glasses why did he bring his detective badge with him? I get he probably needed to keep in touch with Agasa but then Agasa could have just made something that couldn't be tracked by the glasses to be totally sure Haibara couldn't find Conan.
Gin and Vodka enjoying the roller coaster.
