>finally a Pleiades thread after weeks without one
>OP is a faggot who talks about MAL ratings
I even brought out my fucking phone to devise this shitpost, since that's all /a/ gives a shit to reply to these days, I'm just curious why it's so liked. I get the magical girls thing, that's great, but what else?
The problem is that he thinks MAL is an authority in anime, as he seems to be using the rating to question's /a/'s opinion
Really, it's retarded to use any kind of collective opinion as an absolute truth.
Astrophysics, timeline fuckery, cute magical girls, sensible character drama, great non-generic male character, no bullshit, no fuckups, just a little underrated gem which many people probably just not watch because they falsely belive it's just an extensive car commercial.
First two episodes are a bit slow, stuff really gets going with ep.3 though.
Pleiades is the kind of show that I only heard about after it was over and now I can't marathon it because I don't want the ride to end too soon. The same thing happened with Yozakura Quartet.
Nanako = Itsuki > Hikaru > Subra > Aoi
I'll be waiting powarmly. Until then maybe we can save this thread.
It's an homage to old gainax themes such as parallel universes, time travel, space, travel at lightspeed affecting time perception.
All sprinkles with tons of cute shenanigan, feels, goody morals and overall fun.
And also a little bit of fanservice.
And pretty good direction.
And good seyus.
Good themes and good implementation.
Madokafags are usually cancer.
Giving ratings on mal is thing only cancer do.
Madokafags think all mahou shoujo should twist the genre (But if they do it is a madoka clone)
There OP, its easy to understand.
>that old timeline chart
Let me help you.
>forcing fanbase wars for no reason
Well, thank you.
From your comment it's pretty clear you haven't watched Pleiades.
It's nothing like Madoka. They are both good in their own ways, but just because they have mahou shoujo it doesn't mean they are the same.
What? I said there is a group who always demand that any Mahou Shoujo should break the laws of the genre, when a normal and good show like Pleiades show up they start vomiting shit about it being cliche
I just like to add a bit of toxicity wherever I can so all those kind of people feel less welcome.
We had always nice threads the whole time when the show was airing and afterwards, we don't need people like you bringing their personal crusades into these threads.
Last post for you, not going to encourage your shitposting any more.
>But its what is behind the hate Pleiades got,
What hate? The worst thing you could say about Pleiades is that most people ignored the show because of the premise and the studio. And even that's not really true, since by the time the show ended, it had already developed a reputation as a sleeper hit on /a/ and a lot of people caught up with it and decided to watch it because of /a/ threads. I don't remember any shitposting in Pleiades threads except very, very, very little shipper wars faggotry.
Why so much Subaru hate?
There was fucking Mugino shitting up everything with fucking shota talk all the time. And right as all the car commercial shitposters left too.
These are two boys.
Minato-kun is manly and probably has a nice penis, what is wrong with you?
I thought it was garbage. Well animated, very pretty garbage, but garbage. The moment they decided they could just break all the rules they'd established in previous episodes because 'muh anything goes when you have a goal or whatever' excuse really sealed the deal.
Though really what made me hate it is how none of the main characters show the slightest bit of curiosity or understanding of their world. Yeah yeah, they're 13 year olds or whatever, but you think ONE of them would have shown a bit of interest or asked a question or something when confronted with something like a bloody TIME MACHINE instead of just being like 'oh well, we have to plan for the cultural festival now!'
And literally all because of the weepy last episode. MAL will eat up any melodramatic crying anime pretty much but give them anything remotely challenging and you'll be lucky if it cracks 10K viewers and gets much above 7.00 in ratings.
I love stupid tearjerkers as much as the next guy, but seriously why the fuck do they rate those so high?
Teenagers getting in touch with their emotions and being sentimental saps? Honestly who knows, it's just like a virtual guarantee. You could have a whole show be a slog but play the Maeda style waterworks finale card and it's an automatic instant masterpiece to MAL and enough of Japan to matter. It's part of A-1s bread and butter now pretty much.
>Teenagers getting in touch with their emotions and being sentimental
Honestly this. You have to understand that for the young, any show that makes them tear up is the first show that makes them tear up. It's "grounbdbreaking," "revolutionary" and etc. because they've never seen the millions of things that did it better, or that it was simply a derivative of. They don't have the context to recognize good melodrama from bad melodrama, so they rate highly whatever constitutes their introduction to melodrama.
Shows aimed at a younger audience, especially those made to play to emotions, will always end up with popular ratings higher than their quality deserves, because that audience doesn't have the context to say "X 5 years ago did it better" or "that concept was put to much better use in Y"
WRX STI, followed by Legacy GT.
All others are lesbian cars.
Is this the greatest love story of all time?
It literally is.
It was nice to watch magic girls without it being dark and edgy.
I wish to be a Magical Girl.
Which color would you be?
It was nice watching magical girls without combat. It feels the like the genre has been flooded recently with fighting magical girls that solve problems with guns, lasers and kicks.
I know. They had the power of friendship. It felt like pre-Madoka.
>6.8 on mal
I think this might be bait...
>a says its AOTY
Oh yeah, it's bait.
That chart really hammers in just how complicated some of the shenanigans get.
I found this site through google image search.
And then autistically searched through for ".jpg" to find the image there.
This one is vol 2's.
I should add that I was searching for .jpg after inspecting element. Once you find the correct URL starting with "/img/format..." you just paste it after warnerbros.co.jp.
Absolutely lovely anon, thank you.
It's unfortunate that no one scanned the BD covers.
Indeed. Higher res ones would make some great wallpapers.
Glad my Subaru is from an era when queers were hunted and burned
Pleiades has by far my favorite BD design.
Buy it anon, give Gainax and Subaru all of your money.
A single number doesn't tell you whole story. Trends are a much better indicator.
Paid a shit load of yen for this baby but she was worth every penny.
Because it's literally a car commercial, and represents everything wrong with the Gainax of today.
When /a/ says something is AOTS and other fanbase says it isn't is pure gold.
Remember Ping Pong?
>why the three episode rule exists
Actually it's because episode 3 is usually BD volume 2.
>Making a car commercial aimed to otakus
Why an otaku would need a car anyway? They never leave their rooms
We are talking the same MAL who gives 8 to April is Your Lie.
The ONA was better.
>every girl except Subaru is irrelevant
That's not how you do mahou shoujo. I'm still mad.
I waited for more Hikaru for years and got almost nothing. Thank you, Gainax.
>you will never in a date with Itsuki where she one bite a whole piece of cake
I usually try to watch about at least one new series a week.
Last week I looked at my archive and realized i had finished everything that I had downloaded. and while i was waiting for a new series to finish downloading i decided to rewatch the first episode of Pleiades.
Long story short, i ended up watching the first 7 episodes that day. and the rest the next.
I love the show too much. Its neo sincerity mahou shojou in a day of edgy fighting mahou shojou, its very comforting. and the space themes are beautiful renditions of space as more than just a backdrop.
>Itsuki will never carry you with her gorilla-like strength
What is this face trying to convey?
Have some juice instead.
Short-haired Itsuki or long-haired Itsuki?
I prefer short hair.
Short hair Itsuki and ponytail Nanako are superior. Short hair Hikari is inferior.
It's one of those shows that have 3-4 vocal faggots proclaiming it to be the best fucking thing ever because they liked it. It's still shit an MAL's score (in light of scores of other shows) is actually fitting.
no because that's nothing but conspiracy crap
I cried. And again when I rewatched it.
The last episode was really well done.
SONO TOKI MEBAETA SHOUDOU NI
KIOKU SAE WO SYNC SHITEYUKU
ARIGATOU NANDO MO SAKEBITAI
I think my favorite part of Pleiades that harkons back to other magical girl shows is how it integrates product placement seamlessly into the show.
But instead of advertising for plastic toys and plushies, its all about WRXs and Imprezas.
Most of the time, MAL rates AOTS poorly.
people hate on it because its
>gainax not doing giant robots
but it has the most perfect balance of comfy/serious and absurd/science of any magical girl anime I've seen. Drama is ever present but conflict never drags on and it never feels angsty at all. Really one of the most carefully made series I've seen.
However, it doesn't have a lot of action in the beginning, and it doesn't try to be as openly dark as yuuki yuuna or madoka, nor as kid friendly as precure, maybe that's why it wasn't very popular.
I got it.
It's okay. Most of the art is dissapointingly small. There's no full-page background art, which is a shame. They cram about five or six background pieces onto a page.
It has all the character art though, from both the ONA and the series.
>There's no full-page background art, which is a shame. They cram about five or six background pieces onto a page.
That's absurd, why the hell would they do something like that? I can understand not dedicating a full page to every background, but cramming a half dozen tiny images onto a page really defeats the purpose of even being an artbook in the first place.
It's not hate.
It's just that she's a bit more bland than the other three girls.
I don't want to substitute any of them, I just want to be with them.
I've been a Gainax fan for their robotto stuff and absolutely loved Pleiades. I guess I'm strange.
Yeah, I guess they didn't want to spend loads of money on it. It's not exactly popular.
I'm still glad I bought it though, since it's probably the best we're going to get. The character sections are perfectly good. Concept Hikaru a cute.
It also has all the magic circles, and a translation of the weird alphabet they used.
I'd say it's worth it if you love the show, but just don't expect good background/setting art.
I just finished episode 6. I don't see why everyone is sperging all over this show, it's nice but it's nothing great.
The characters are cliché, the CGI is shit, the designs aren't interesting (except Aoi) and the car commercial aspect kills every attempt at making you dream. Can someone explain to me why the guy just surrenders and goes away every time the girls manage to get hold of a fragment? This is Team Rocket-tier.
That said, the moment they crossed space at an incredible speed was a piece of art in terms of visual direction and the plot is interesting.
Narutards dropping it after one episode obviously means it's shit right?
The Vol.6 of BD will be released on 25/11/2015. I can not wait for this any more!
I love this anime. Actually, there was an OVA at 2011. When I watched the OVA, it is too boring for me. But the TV series is pretty good!
The character design is pretty moe, and the scenes of university and haven are very beautiful. I know the atmosphere of stories is a little of boring, but every story is very po-warm.
The core of Gainax's anime is never changed. The story of love, no matter friends, families or lovers, and the blessing for human beings. Gainax is my best favorite anime company. I was very moved and excited when finished Pleiades because I realized Gainax is never dead even Anno's and Imaishi's group have left Gainax.
>Can someone explain to me why the guy just surrenders and goes away every time the girls manage to get hold of a fragment?
He doesn't actually want to hurt them for it because he's not evil and he's
in love with Subaru.
