Why were Clamp such a one hit wonder? How did they manage to never make an even decent series again after this?
As a CLAMPfag
>What is Angelic Layer?
An ok action series.
>What is Magic Knight Rayearth?
>What is Chobits?
Mediocre and totally forgets about its theme for the sake of pleasing the audience.
>What is Kobato?
The CCS manga wasn't a hit. It's thanks to the anime adaptation, which was massively rewritten from the original, that this franchise took off. The manga was then reprinted and was sold worldwide, following the anime.
It was so successful then, Madhouse completly shifted from being an OVA/lmovie studio to a TV series studio.
I was a Clamp fan with RG Veda, X and Rayearth, those were their hits to me.
Clover was also pretty.
Around the time Sakura came out I was already tired of them.
You're just young and unexperienced, OP.
But how the fuck can /a/ be so ignorant? I'm not even a big Clamp fan but I know they're not "one hit wonder" artists.
And if anything, their "one hit wonder" should be X, not fucking Sakura Card Captors.
>One hit wonder?
Are you a retard? Newfag? Both?
Everyone else has already called you out already.
Sounds like you are an anime only faggot. They are group of manga writers and their art style is one of the most superb styles out there and thats where their their serieses shine.
What does /a/ think of CLAMP Saber?
Also does anyone have their Amuro tribute art?
I'm just passing through but it certainly worked as a rec thread for me.
Downloading Magic Knight Rayearth, thanks OP!
therefor I've gotten more out of this than any of /a/'s FOTM threads
Anyone read tsubasa world chronicle? Is it more than just a shameless attempt at pimping gate 7 or not?
This pic totally made me remember the horrendous art accompanying the horrendous ALI endings of CG.
Since this is a CLAMP thread, and since me and bruv just started talking about it irl, do /a/nons think X will get a proper continuation.
Much better than anything Takeuchi can do.
Post more CLAMP.
>the tsubasa adaptation was better than the original
anyone else want a REAL sequel to CCS one day instead of that Tsubasa AU shit?
The whole CCS series makes it out that they are training Sakura to power her up to fight something big and to handle something huge.
Other clamp series such as xholic reference this as well.
But we never get to see what happens next for her.
Pic related, here is a quote:
>I would like to make another CCS anime
Make it happen CLAMP
This, the CSS manga is ok, the anime was the real masterpiece and it didn't had even more weird incest undertones.
And I say this as someone that begged his mom to buy the manga as a kid.
Hana Yori Dango aka Boys over flowers aka the best selling shoujo title ever.
It's the main reason why shoujo went to shit
I wouldn't mind a one-shot of grown-up CCS if it portrayed Sakura as a massive layabout since being the most powerful mage in existence has made her lazy and pick up no life skills.
>Why do you keep saying that? xxxholic was way too far up its own ass to be entertaining.
Been years since I read it so you'll need to be more specific than that. It was much smaller story in terms of scale so their was less chances to fuck it up. (Even though they still managed it in the end.)
Like a lot of people said already, they were already popular before CCS and still enjoyed it after it with their other works before the Tsubasa era.
What happened is that CCS seems fo classify a bit into their Magnum Opus.
Saying they are a "one hit wonder" is like saying Toriyama wasn't doing popular shit before Dragon Ball.
What they really need to do is to finish the stories that were left inconclusive.
Like fucking X.
What a shame, people is missing some really awesome shit.
Angelic Layer is a garbage manga, I've never seen such a terrible excuse for bad parenthood in Misaki's mom case, at least in the anime they actually gave her proper characterization. Chobits is completly anticlimatic and all that platonic love shit doesn't work, especially if it's CLAMP trying to shove that up my ass.
The others you mentioned are okay.
This make thing how awesome Fate Series would be if written/adapted by old school CLAMP. Shiroufags always keep trying to convince people of how hard his struggle is and how he doesn't suffer from shounen power wank. Those faggots should read X. Kamui is a much more believable Shirou than Shirou himself. That's right a cannon faggot is a better hero than generic VN high schooler who knocked up three beauties.
Most popular or raising popularity shoujo nowadays don't have Tsukasa-tier boys anymore, see Kimi ni Todoke. Ouran and Fruits Basket also had good boys as romantic interests, and they were pretty popular back in their times, especially Fruits Basket.
Fantasy shoujo is having good feed back nowadays, see Yona and Akagami.
Something that will take it's good time to recover is actual Mahou Shoujo from little girls maganizes, you don't see these getting adapted anymore.
Well, Fate Stay Night started as a porn game so why would you expected A+ characterization? people wank over it because of the power levels and action sequences, and the overall premise can be milked forever and ever. It is a interesting premise but Fate itself is a pretty meh VN.
X had a lot of "oh dammit CLAMP" cases though, but now that you mention it, Kamui was indeed a better Shirou than Shirou. Actually, Shirou was just a shit and even more gary stu Kamui.
>Something that will take it's good time to recover is actual Mahou Shoujo from little girls maganizes, you don't see these getting adapted anymore.
They aren't even made because shoujo writers know the easy money come from domestic violence and precure killed any credibility left on mahou shoujo. Not even little girls are into mahou shoujo anymore, precure was a juggernaut conceived by Bandai that ended devouring the genre and its dead is bringing the entire genre down.
Damn, CLAMP can even make Saber's shitty design look great.
I liked the manga more since it didn't have the annoying Filler-chan, but other than that it was really great.
Ao Haru Ride has been outselling KnT for a while. Also, KnT didn't change shit despite topping the sales charts for years. The old formula is safe and that's what Japanese entertainment want these days, a safe bet
I know it's easy to stick to the meme "all woman want abusive man" and ignore other stuff but there are shoujos that sell decently with good male love interests, or simply not jerks in general, I already mentioned a few in my first reply. Having a basic formula or not, it's not always used. A lot of mangakas want the protagonists to have healthier realtionships and they can get some sales out of it, simple as that.
>What is Angelic Layer?
>What is Magic Knight Rayearth?
A masterpeice, hikari acute A CUTE!
>What is Chobits?
LET ME BE WITH YOU! YEAH! YEAH 10/10 would turn on a chi, would plug in a momo
>What is Kobato?
The fuck is that?
>Why is OP such a faggista?
Nope, there aren't any. You can stop searching now. :^)
You're not wrong about that, but there are other kinds of shoujo manga that have conflicts and doesn't involve having abusive male characters as result. And believe, some of them sell too. Generally, most anime, manga and especially LN are surrounded by cliche/formulaic storyline and characters, yet some of them still sell really well. It's not only applied to shoujo but almost everything in this niche hobby.
It's a CLAMP thread and to end the examples, the few shoujos they did didn't have abusive male characters, and some of them achieved a certain level of popularity.
>what is Rayearth
>what is X
Good job OP, I give it 3 months or less before /a/ hates CCS for being entry-level anime for newfags and another month before everybody forgets about it entirely again. Shame, because I really liked it too.
Actually, Clow had expected Yue to fall in love with Sakura from the beginning but that didn't happen. This isn't really a big plot point or anything (in fact it's only mentioned briefly by Eriol) but I liked the implication that despite all the shit he could pull off with his magical powers, he wasn't able to predict or manipulate love. I really liked the pairing despite their age difference too but them ending with someone of their own age just feels more natural.
True. I didn't mind how it turned out in the end. It actually surprised me when I saw that Sakura and Syaoran were getting closer, but that was when I was just developing a mind for romance.
This really is the one story that I am legit upset they have not finished. Has the most potential to be their magnum opus (though CCS is that already), great cast, interesting story, dark but not edgy. It breaks my heart that they would rather work on the clusterfuck that is reservoir chronicles than this.
Fuck yeah, everyone remembers! CLAMP finishing the manga fucking confirmed.
Preach it, brother. X/1999 had so many things working on so many levels, if you were deep into the lore you could see everything clearly foreshadowed. So much symbolism, from Christianity to numerology, Shintoism, Tarot, even flowers. That manga had endless potential. It still stings realizing that they will never ever finish that work.
Anon, don't you mean X/X meme?
I only read a bit of it but it seems fine, though I'd still take the anime over it. Perhaps reading the manga right after finishing the anime isn't the best idea considering you'll be reading about the same story you just finished. I don't know about you but that just doesn't sit well with me. Maybe you should put it off for a bit before you read it.
Tsubasa was the beginning of the end, honestly. They wanting to do that whole CLAMPverse thing was the worst idea ever. xxxHolic could have been a masterfully done story if it wasn't tied to that God awful manga. But they really had to sacrifice plot cohesion so that they could Jew you into buying more CLAMP manga. Seriously fucked up.
The manga is great, it only has some little differences over the anime. The anime adaptation does a great service to the original.
You know how you'll be reading some manga on a tablet or e-reader or something, and the pages get out of order somehow? But you continue reading, not realizing that the pages are out of order, even though the story is making less and less sense, because you figure it will all come clear in a few pages?
That's how I felt reading X/1999. And the pages are in order, I triple-checked. The art is nice, but jeezus, it's like all non-sequiturs with "KAMUI!!!!" every 3 pages.
>They wanting to do that whole CLAMPverse thing was the worst idea ever.
This. It was cute for say Kobato when you had CLAMP original characters making brief cameos every once in a while, but a full on show with AU counterparts was pushing it. They are lucky their art is so gorgeous.
Posting mai waifu Umi-chan.
>Next chapter when ?
You serious, nigga?
You just came here to make us suffer, didn't you?
From what I remember, years ago on their blog, they mentioned problems with the publishers. They also said they refuse to budge on the blood and guts so that means every time Japan gets hit with some kind of disaster, they get told it's "too soon" to start working on X again.
>Chobits manga is beautiful and sticks to its guns.
That's not how I would describe a series that spits in the face of the entirety of its foreshadowing and numerous character relationships for a cheap twist for tragedy points at the last minute.
>Anime changed the entire meaning of the ending
And thank fuck for that
If only you posted this 3 years earlier I could've been saved from hours wasted on Fate. Why does /a/ keep trying to convince everyone how much that piece of crap is a "masterpiece"?
But Toya acknowledges her so that's a pretty good development in my eyes. The episode where he gifts her a ribbon made me happy for that scene and some other good ones.
Last I checked they were uploaded in Madokami, but I haven't visited it as of lately, I heard it was down or something?
See, I don't actually hate Fate. The premise is interesting and I can see why people wank over the power levels, but then being originally a porn game of course you would have a terrible MC that uses his chinko to win all the girls. Shirou's conflict could have been a lot better if he didn't end up as a annoying Gary stu that simply wins fights and waifus because of that. In the end you have other spin offs that doesn't have Shirou, but you'll never be free from Saber (though I like her even if her design is unappealing)
Supposedly anon provided an extra ~month's worth before it's fully gone
>Why was Clamp
Fucking fixed your bad grammar.
CLAMP is a name of a singular group.
Therefore it gets a Singular Verb.
And they aren't a One Hit Wonder.
Magic Knight Rayearth
And even Gate 7 which lingers in hiatus limbo.
I remember when xxxHOLiC ended. And then it didn't.
I still hadn't read Rou or whatever it's called, the continuation.
Or the remake (?) of Legal Drug yet.
Someone write a summary of the conclusion of xxxHOLiC because I don't remember SHIT.
THE BROTHER WAS TOTALLY NOT GAY
He just liked studying with his friend in his room late at night in total privacy.
The dub made almost no sense, decent amount because of trying to hide this. Also why was there a convention of making all Osaka accents Brookland accents?
> Watanuki is a syaoran clone created to fill in the void left by the syaorans
>Himawari marries or dies or something I don't know
>Doumeki marries medium loli
>100 years pass and Watanuki is still waiting for Yuuko at the shop while Doumeki 2.0 hangs out at the shop with black Mokona and the two supernatural lolis
Goddamn. 10 years later and I'm still mad that Watanuki's development was thrown down the shitter for that "plot twist".
>Doumeki marries medium loli
The fuck. I must have stopped a few issues before the end because that I missed out on. Last thing I remember is
Yuko goneand homoerotic smoking Watanuki.
>Not W/H/D threesome end
God fucking damn it CLAMP you're meant to be into that sort of shit aren't you. God damn it.
You fucking Philistines.
Second season was great in the manga. Haven't seen either anime season, but they're in my backlog.
I really wanted to make a nyaa torrent for the manga and the artbooks but my upload speed is painfully slow. The first leecher would never be able to download it before they gave up.
I'm half-way through the second season. Nobody ever fights in the second season they just use special moves from afar. It's super weird because when they were little girls they'd spam spells too but they also had a lot of great swordfights and just beat each other up. The mecha fights are way too clean.
I'm not opposed to sad endings. In fact, I though that Watanuki's fate with
Yuuko being gone and Himawari marrying some other guy and be cursed to only speak to him on his birthdaywas kind of poignant twist which I could in theory appreciate if only this story didn't exist for the sole purpose of advertising Tsubasa Chronicles. CLAMP simply doesn't care for character development and plot cohesion at this point.
