Actually, Clow had expected Yue to fall in love with Sakura from the beginning but that didn't happen. The premise is interesting and I can see why people wank over the power levels, but then being originally a porn game of course you would have a terrible MC that uses his chinko to win all the girls. Shirou's conflict could have been a lot better if he didn't end up as a annoying Gary stu that simply wins fights and waifus because of that. I'm half-way through the second season. Nobody ever fights in the second season they just use special moves from afar. It's super weird because when they were little girls they'd spam spells too but they also had a lot of great swordfights and just beat each other up. The mecha fights are way too clean.

I'm not opposed to sad endings. In fact, I though that Watanuki's fate with Yuuko being gone and Himawari marrying some other guy and be cursed to only speak to him on his birthday was kind of poignant twist which I could in theory appreciate if only this story didn't exist for the sole purpose of advertising Tsubasa Chronicles. CLAMP simply doesn't care for character development and plot cohesion at this point.
