I liked the first arc of SAO, even though it was disjointed and full of time skips. The idea of people coming to accept that they're trapped in this mmo world and have to make the best of it is fun, but the way the arc ended was genuinely stupid and everything that came after just continually surpassed my expectations of disappointment.

I liked the first half of s1, the second half just didn't feel like SAO anymore, though it was still fun to watch.
I haven't seen s2 yet, but in my opinion it should have ended with the first one, or, even better, the Aincrad arc. Once they get out of the first game there is really no reason to continue.

i couldn't get through the first LN purely because it was written badly. I can't read nip yet, so I am fully willing to admit that it may have been the translators inept english abilities rather than the author's skill, but either way I could just not make it through. I had a thing for some of the awesome costumes designs there. Especially Kirito's silver-lined black longcoat...unf. (How he wore the coat over a simple V-neck tee reminded me a bit of Christopher Eccleston's garb in Doctor Who - simple combination yet gives the impression of the wearer being casually tough, at least for me.)
