What does /a/ think of Oyaumi Punpun?
>>
>>133646090
>Oyaumi
oops
>>
>>133646090
I'm mad
>>
A really good coming of age story but slightly overrated by many.
>>
>>133646090
it is good
but it is not what people claimed it to be
5/10 would recommend to my imouto
>>
I liked it a lot. I don't consider it a masterpiece, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
>>
>>133646090
The one fatal flaw is that every problem yuuichi and punpun had could've been solved with hentai
>>
>>133646117
Why?
I personally felt very bad for Aiko 2bh pham
>>133646177
>>133646179
>>133646226
I started and finished it yesterday and it's the best thing I've ever read, probably because I haven't read too many "serious" mangos
>>133646233
yeah it was pretty depressing
>>
>>133646090
Anyone who claims that this series deserves more than an 8/10 is a huge pleb.
>>
>>133646288
Because best girl is dead, all I have now is a shirt of her
>>
>>133646090
Really good, but the whole "good vibrations" thing feels completely random and unplanned.
>>
Was kind of disappointed it was mostly about romance shit, I thought it was going to be something more interesting.
>>
>>133646090
I thought it was really good.

The Good Vibrations shit was boring an unneeded but other than that it was a very good story.

Tried to introduce my friend to this but he was too bored after just a few chapters
>>
good manga, but it felt kind of weird when his aunt had sex with him almost rapey.
>>
>>133646090
I preferred the first few volumes set in Punpun's childhood when it was more of a black comedy with a cute aesthetic than later on when it was more of a gritty drama, I still enjoyed it all the way through though.
>>
Also, Sachi was the worst girl. Punpun was a shitty person, but he didn't deserve end with a slut.
>>
>>133646615
Sachi was best girl. Aiko was the black spot the whole time
>>
>>133646296
Well, obviously you have to like this kind of manga. What is better than it in the same genre?
>>133646358
tfw it could have been avoided if they didn't went crazy
>>133646399
I think Asano Inio admitted that a lot of characters weren't supposed to be important at first but they grew on him and he made them main characters. Also, that sect thing actually saved the world, supposedly.
>>133646408
I don't think it was all about romance, but more about confidence and social problems.
>>
>>133646660
didn't go crazy* fug
>>
The entire Apocalyptic plot point in the second half felt really fucking stupid and unnecessary. I get that it parallels the main story at points but to have an end of the world plot in what's supposed to be a dramatic coming-of-age story felt out of place.
>>
>>133646533
That part was hot as fuck.
>>
>>133646475
>Friend didn't like the childhood portion of punpun

That was the best part.
Find new friends.
>>
I don't think the end of the world shit was bad at first, but I disliked how it amounted pretty much to nothing in the end. I was expecting it to tie up with Punpun's plot in some amazing ways but nope, nothing like that. I felt like he was trying to fill up the manga with something he had no idea how to carry on properly.
>>
I think it's a good manga to recommend people who are interested in going a little deeper into manga than the usual mainstream stuff, as an example of a series that's geared to an older audience. There are other seinen series I like more than Punpun but they're also the type that have content that would throw readers off if they aren't used to it.

>>133646533
>almost rapey
This meme needs to stop. Punpun fucked her because he was an horny and stupid teenager. Yuuichi deserved it, he was an asshole with her. Midori did nothing wrong.
>>
>>133646533
Most of inio asano's manga have younger characters trying or being seduced by an older relative, I think he has a fetish or something
>>
>>133646734
I don't know how to make friends anymore and he is the only friend I have left and vice versa
>>
>>133646408
Well falling in love with Aiko and the resulting social and mental dysfunction of him trying to live without her was the driving force of the story.

>>133646707
>>133646756
Yeah, it kind of just tapered out. I do like how punpun turning into a tetrahedron when he had his biggest emotional breakdown tied in with what the cultist said about a tetrahedron being one of the strongest shapes and defenses. That was cool.

But overall I thought the end was nice, it showed poignantly how Punpun will never get the thing he wants most; to be left alone. And from any other view point, he looks happy and content with life, but far from it. It's true for anybody actually. You always see that successful dude on the street but his life probably has a lot of stress and woe.

>>133646533
>almost rapey

>>133646805
But he didn't fuck her? Yeah he could've fought back harder but that hardly constitutes a burning desire to plow her.
>>
>>133646756
I wasn't supposed to be surreal.
>>
>>133646640
At least Aiko wasn't a bizarre Asano's self-insert.
>>
>>133646660
Yep and that's exactly why that section feels random.
SInce obviously it wasn't planned, the whole section has no real connection with the main storyline except for some last-minute adjustments and the fact that there are some Punpun's old time friends... not related to his storyline anymore.

Wanna see a bad digression that actually felt necessary? Shigurui's frog-man + lady penis arc. Completely crazy and unnecessary on the plot level, but still necessary to break the pacing before the conclusion of the main story.
Good vibrations, instead, doesn't break the narrative for the good (in this work there's no need) but simply shows up.
>>
>>133646803
What series?
>>
>>133646846
Either a fetish or personal experience, I'd say.
>>
>>133646960
I thought that was neat how he tied that in. How punpun's name and form is essentially just a incomplete stand-in for someone else.
>>
The poor Aiko didn't deserve it

>>
>Fucked his aunt
>Fucked glasses gf
>Fucked a chick he picked up at the DMV office
>Fucked childhood crush
And we're supposed to feel sorry for this lucky cheeky cunt?
>>
>>133647749
No, I feel sorry for Aiko. She had a terribly shitty and short life.
>>
>>133646090
my second favorite manga, great shit

also Sachi undeniably best girl
>>
>>133647322
>Oh shit, I might get some good recs
>It's all shit I've read already
Well shit
>>
Two Punpun threads in a day? I'm okay with that.

It's one of my personal favourites, definitely in my top ten but that's probably because I relate to both Punpun and his uncle more than it's healthy.

>>133647749
Sex doesn't automatically make life better. Fucking a couple of girls is just a short palliative to depression.
And it can even worsen it if you care about the girl and you know that your depression and what you will do when you're depressed will end hurting her.

I advise you shut up, your virginity is showing.
>>
Was nice, kinda too heavy for me. I prefer Asano's shorter stories/one shots.
>>
>>133646090
I consumed it incredibly fast, but as soon as the bitch from elementary school shows up again (was her name Aiko?), I realized the show was only going down hill from that point. Which was exactly what happened.

Never finished the last volume.

My rating of it before Aiko shows up: 8/10
After: Doesn't matter/10
>>
>>133651058
>show
Woops, meant series.

Google punished me by making me select photos with books.

The moment when Aiko died was the best moment of life
>>
what's punpun's face like?
>>
>>133646090
pretentious 2deep4you shit. Read half of it until put it on-hold for a year or two. Read it further after that but only 30-40 Chapter until the next break. Not really an enjoyable read but I will finish it up at some point because I've already invested so much time in it.

Most overrated Manga on /a/
>>
>>133646090
On a side note, I have a bird and he makes exactly the same facial expression.
>>
>>133646090
8-9/10 for the first 10 volumes
5/10 for the last 3
overall a 7/10
>>
Punpun getting redeemed at the end felt hollow. The dude's a freak, and it didn't feel in line with the overall theme, or at least the theme as I understood it.
>>
I need an official release of this. I want to support it ao much.
>>
>>133651596
>5/10 for the last 3
you mean 10/10

>>133651627
Besides this. I agree, he deserved worse
>>
>>133651627
>>133652360
He didn't get redeemed, what? All he's ever striven for in life is to be completely alone and not worry about hurting anyone, so after not only killing his childhood crush, he finally comes to the realization with Sachi's kid that he will never in fact, get to be alone. That is far from redeemed. Yeah he could have just killed himself or bled out and died and it'd be more realistic, but this ending fitted the theme better I think.
>>
>>133652360
>you mean 10/10
nope. It was a forced plot twist because asano is unable to make (yet) a +30yo plausible main character.
Also for avoid the love triangle (cause muuh too trite).
That said I'll still buy any asano because is a talented guy.
>>
>>133656469
punpun was definitely not 30 senpai

at most he was 22

>a forced plot twist
no, it's just a plot twist you dumb mutt
>>
>two characters who definately shouldn't fuck meet
>eventually they fuck
>cue 10 pages of EXTREME drawings
>repeat for 150 chapters
Thats the only 'drama' this manga was able to fart of itself. I was actually surprised when Punpun's mom and that young boy didn't fuck, she still fapped like crazy to it.
>>
>>133656904
yes, and asano isn't able to deal grown up characters, like the uncle after the marriage.

>>133657125
>just a plot twist
from "seinen slice of life" to "teen crime road trip"?
>>
MC is piece of shit who doesn't deserve a happy end
>>
>>133646756

>its another "end is near" death cult
>surprised when nothing happens
>>
>>133657927
>from "seinen slice of life" to "teen crime road trip"?
yes and I loved every second of it
>>
>>133657646
true, but asano has also the talent for become a satoshi kon of the manga industry.
He's still young, give him credit.
>>
>>133652207
Pretty sure it's rolling out in english next year brah. Think Viz media or someone is doing it.
I'm gonna buy every copy i see. I want to give Inio my money. He deserves it.
>>
>>133658009
And he didn't so what's the problem. Punpun is literally the most miserable he has ever been at the end.
>>
>>133652207
>>133660655
Here you go. It's coming next year. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-07-24/viz-media-licenses-inio-asano-goodnight-pun-pun-manga/.90859

Is the Kaiji manga worth reading, or does it fall off in quality after the arc covered in the anime?
