>rewatching Code Geass for the first time since airing
>still the greatest show on Earth
How did they do this?
I get the impression Code Geass is liked because people saw it when they were 15.
I watched it for the first time recently and was entertained by how bad it was. It's a good watch for the wrong reasons.
That makes sense.
You can tell they tried to make Lelouch out to be some sort of genius like Light Yagami but failed in the execution.
Every victory in series one, which is supposed to show Lelouch's unparalleled military strategy, just comes across as being the product of sheer luck or coincidence.
The first season was very exciting if you overlook the Mao subplot and the terrible drama whore that is Shirley. The second was for the most part a complete mess who seemed to only be concerned about introducing new characters no one cared about and turning the whole things into meme time.
No, is just if you have been here long, you are just tired of people saying what is obvious. "HEEEY GUYS SHAMURAI CHAMPLOO WAS AWESOME", we all know it, and this is the millionth time anyone said it.
"CODE GEASS IS AWESOMEE GUYYS", we know.
I like Mushishi and Cowboy Bebop. Wasn't aware that hating them was some sort of meme. Not sure what 'SG' is.
The thing that makes Code GEASS bad is the bad writing. That doesn't mean you're not allowed to like it, but it does mean that people who don't like it don't have a legitimate reason to do so.
Put off watching this for years because of the horrendous character designs
Finally checked it out after a friend convinced me to try it.
How the fuck do people actually enjoy such terrible writing and such bland "villains" which all boil down to
>overtly evil because we don't know how to write antagonists with motivations that aren't copy paste "this guy is evil and the bad guy and you should dislike him"
What? Schnitzel wanted peace and was one of the good guys. Did you actually watch it ADHD landwhale? Even though it wasn´t my type of genre, I still found the writing a few steps above your generic chuuni series.
Have some backbone you faggot. Just because /a/ dislike it doest mean you have to downplay your fondness. You dont need to appease to the hivemind. Mushishi is a fucking 10/10.
I'm not trying to appease the hivemind, just stating what I think. They're good shows, I 'like' both of them, I don't personally believe either is a 10/10.
If anyone has an argument for either being a 'bad' show, as in, below average quality, I'd like to hear it.
>Did you actually watch it ADHD landwhale?
Didn't make it past episode 20
Tastes differ. You could show me a 'masterpiece' soccer anime and I probably wouldn't think highly of it because it's not an interesting subject matter to me.
I appreciated both Mushishi and Cowboy Bebop, I acknowledge both as being 'good' shows, but neither strike a personal cord with me required to be a favourite of mine.
I think I have a more legitimate reason for regarding them as 'okay' than 'reddit likes them therefore they are bad.'
>been watching anime for years
>haven't seen code geass
Lelouche Lamperouge falls in love with Suzaku Kururugi.
Unable to confess, he is gifted by a deus ex machina with the Geass and Suzaku's phone number from C.C. Never minding the strange area code, the Britannian immediately calls him, and is overjoyed to find out that he has a crush on him as well.
But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to Spinzaku, he only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, he finds out that the boy he called is not the same boy he fell in love with. In fact, he doesn't exist in this universe at all. He is the Honorary Britanian's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with Rurushu's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of his crush.
Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of JIBUN WO.
I should rewatch this. Lelouch is just the greatest.
The purpose of writing is to entertain. Writing is good or bad depending on whether it does good or bad at fulfilling that purpose. If a lot of people liked something and were entertained by it, by definition it can't be bad.
I've rewatched R1/R2 six times now, still the best roller coaster anime that I've found, and my favorite. Steins;Gate is arguably better written and just as fun (my second favorite thriller), but CG is so consistently good over 50 episodes.
Those China plot threads went nowhere. It's like they needed more fluff to pad out the series and then realized that they didn't need them after all and just kinda brushed it all under the rug thinking that no one would notice.
>not liking Lelouch kidnapping the princess
>not liking Lelouch saving Xing Ke and the princess with that whole "wish granted" speech
Holy fuck this is some new kind of pleb.
I swear all the faggots in CG threads claiming it's shit are the worst cancerous assholes on this board. It's like they're trying so hard to be edgy to try and fit in or something. Fuck off.
Code Geass is a masterpiece in its own right. Writing might be flawed and I don't think anyone would not call it a trainwreck, but no other anime in the world that is more entertaining.
Code Geass and TTGL are two shows I would've loved to watch with /a/.
Code Gayass is overrated and the characters are obnoxious (i.e the japanese guy who is on the opposing side, and that fanatical long haired girl who worships that princess, etc). If you want to see god-tier stuff, I advise you to watch S;G instead.
>SG has no hot girls
>prioritizing hot girls instead of plot/story
Lelouch is just a really really REALLY fucking good main character.
I wouldn't go as far as to say he carries the show as I like all of the other characters as well but god damn he is just great
It's it just me, or do anyone else feel resemblance between LotGH and CG?
At least we got something close to it on /a/'s stream Code Geass marathon in moot's honor.
>Like light yagami
Haha, wow, you stopped literally 2 episodes short of code geass's equivalent of the red wedding. No wonder you have garbage taste, you can't focus on anything decent long enough.
Because they felt like it, I guess? They had already been using Marika as a recurring character for a while, so I guess they just didn't want to kill her off.
>tfw can't find music that is similar to Code Geass OST
Somone help me? A musical genre would be nice.
>nippon was under britannian subjugation and treated as shit for most of the series
>MC personally didnt give a fuck about Japan
>even at the end when it got liberation, it's people turned out to be traitorous fucks
I dunno. I didn't see the usual nippon wanking in Code Geass.
You're absolutely right, that's one thing I like very much about CG.
But that is applied to the characters, the "nature of nations" thing does focus almost exclusively on Japan and it's nationalism.
>I didn't see the usual nippon wanking in Code Geass
It was funny to think that they could have made it about Japan taking over the world and instead made it about creating the U.S.
-oh wait no they did take over the world didn't they?
I understand that at a glance most people would compare Code Geass to Death Note, but anyone who actually watched both should realize that they are completely different in nature.
DN is fully concentrated on its plot n' twists (it does execute them very well, admittedly) to the point that the characters have the depht of a puddle on a hot summer.
CG however, while it has its fair share of plot thickness, it's the characters and their developments that are the true meat of the show. Even a character like Nina (even if she's still one of the most unlikeble persons of the show) got a pretty great amount of development.
Comparing Lelouch's character and Light "I wanna be god because I'm smart (and that's literally it)" Yagami's is almost laughable.
CG is the better show by a landslide.
The last third of R2 (from the nukezaku battle) is as good if not better than R1.
I know what you mean though, until then it is pretty bad.
Looks like they didn't know what to do with so many episodes, so they resetted things on the beginning and shoehorned a chinese ark onto it.
I vaguely remember reading interviews where they explained the uneven pacing in the first half of R2 was due to a timeslot change. They had to add scenes so new viewers wouldn't get lost and that meant they had to drop subplots to make the time to explain shit.
just finished it 30 minutes ago. was bretty gud, but the best part was when
>thinking CG is bad
They don't call it Code Gayass for nothing. The fujobait is all that matter in this show.
Put on your /y/ goggles and rewatch it, you'll find it more enjoyable.
