There's still five movies to go so I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket just yet. One would presume that he's going to come back towards the end with the rest of the 02 kids. It'd be pretty silly of Toei to abort them like that when they haven't even released the BDs of their respective reason. Contrary to what most of /a/ wants you to think, 02 isn't nearly as hated in Japan as it is in the west so I don't see why they would go out of their way to pretend like they didn't matter to debunk the epilogue.

Thing is while 02 isn't as hated as in America, it's not all that well liked either outside of Ken. FYI this poll >>133410051 is basically what the Digimon 02 polls have always looked like in Japan.

The epilogue also wasn't well received there either, even the staff scratched their heads at some of the decisions made. To make matters even worse the epilogue locks Toei in in terms of what type of stories they can tell. So yeah it would make sense for them to find out a way to get rid of 02.

The problem with accepting it is that Sora and Yamato don't have anything in the way of interaction to suggest that they'd be attracted to one another.
