Just wanted to start a discussion on how fellow Anons have been prepping their cards or gifts.
>How do I sign up?
Its closed, better luck next year.
Someone will be doing late cards/gifts possibly, and if they show up here you can join that!
Jebus of /a/ is open for Christm/a/s cds. More information in the archives.
Personally, I'm having a hard time finding the right material to make cards. Its always too flimsy. I'll have to head down to a different bookstore this evening to check things out.
At least post something Christmas as well.
I usually just lurk, so I don't have much pictures.
Is sign ups for card still open?
Man, I have been late for the /ss/ events for two years in a row!
Do I have bad luck or something?
Its reasonable though. Assuming I'm a store owner, I'd think a decorated card would sell better, as compared to a blank card.
Not a harm to stock blank cards, but I could use the space to sell more decorated cards.
Instead of paying attention to the catalog, it might be better to check the archives closely
>signups started in August
>literally all you had to search was "Santa" in the archives
Granted, the archives were on the fritz but desustorage came up immediately after and recovered the original sign-up threads anyways.
>Granted, the archives were on the fritz but desustorage came up immediately after and recovered the original sign-up threads anyways.
Not the guy that missed it, but they didn't and search has been on and off for desustorage. I don;t know how he missed it last year though because there were threads every other day, but this year to keep on track of things, I needed to keep a crawler up that plays a loud as fuck alarm to wake me up in my sleep when these threads come up.
I might be confusing it, actually. There were multiple sign-up threads I remember finding from the desustorage archive and linking to others, which means it had to have been available over the course of October (albeit, only when search worked). Which means they were being archived currently rather than restored.
Ah, well. There's always late cards and next year.
By the least, I think a simple site needs to be created to centralize certain information (FAQ, when it starts, etc),
but I'm afraid it will blow out of proportions and start doing things out of 4chan.
That's part of the issue. The objective was to reduce visibility so only regular /a/ users would be able to find it after considering the participants from previous years. Once you have all that information collected in one place and in a neat, organized presentation, it's much more visible to anyone and everyone. The archive itself limits that to a degree, though the moe archive dying wasn't part of that intention.
maybe we can organize the /ss/ sign up information into a google website like what the buyfags threads do.
Any tips for a kirie/paper-cutted art beginner? Found a good way of making 2 toned stencils using Adobe Illustrator but cutting the finer details like the line art with an Xacto has proven to be extremely hard. Maybe I just need to start with much simpler images.
Hmm, so the constant copy-pasting of the FAQ content was intentional?
It would be more neat if its in a pastebin by the least, but yeah I see why certain things were done like they are.
Wouldn't that expose some Anons information to the public? Like email, etc?
No, I meant that giving info for people to sign up in time not giving out personal information.
Potentially, yeah. I personally believe the current method is alright, if not for the disruption on the archive. It makes it so people that are aware of the event already know where to look, anyone that missed it the previous year as well, and for anyone that is still somehow unaware, the threads each week will be sufficient. I agree that it's good to reduce the overall number of entries since there was grinching/crossboarders previously and this seems to be the most effective way without having a centralized /ss/ page.
>first time seeing my initials pop up
I'm so excited now
Finding an /ss/ thread is one issue. Knowing how it works is another. As mentioend in >>133114922 my concern was largely on the FAQ.
The FAQ does not cover everything, and I had to dig through the archives to know how certain things work.
>still havent seen my initials pop up
Should I be worried?
People got their assignments less than a week ago. Expect them to pop up in the next month at some point.
Or maybe your /ss/ is secretive and you'll never know until it arrives.
I am sick of PO boxes and postal stores. I am not going to murder you retards, and postal stores cause problem half the time because of size, name, and return address requirements that are specific to your store
You are completely right anon. I should have browsed /a/ 10 hours a day and noticed the occasional Santa threads.
Want me to send you a card then?
But Anon, I was being serious. I really should browse /a/ more effectively.
>all these fucking secondaries trying to have their own ss thread
Tell me more about that crawler if you are still browsing this thread.
Thank god I caught this thread in time.
Yes, i'm still open for Christm/a/s CD's and whoever wants one just needs to send me a list of their favorite anime along with their address.
Yes, they're free.I'll be taking them for the next couple of days.
I don't actually want one but I do think it would be funny to make you have to look up a bunch of really obscure shit that you can't just youtube
Bring it, pleb.
I had to put a PO box down because I'll be moving around in the next few months and my actual address will vary depending on when the package actually gets here. I did explain this to my santa though and told him to contact me if this turned out to be a problem.
>anon lists a bunch of series and no wishlist
>I've only seen one of the shows and it has no merch he wouldn't already have
I might be able to binge a single cour show to find best girl but I don't know the depths of bullshit that international shipping can bring.
Just gift him merchandise from two or more shows listed. I've done that the last time and it worked out fine.
lets start with an easy one then that I was able to youtube
That's more like an anime you can't even google. What's the japanese title?
>trying to centralize /ss/ signup info/FAQ
Yeah sure. Let's make it easier for crossboarders and outsiders to join. Why not make an instructional pic and spread it everywhere we can while we're at it?
Is that the one with the dumb beta husband who gets beat by his wife a lot?
From the signup
>Wishlist (Don’t be afraid to post links like MAL, or say you like a character or series. You can be as specific or as vague as you want here, this is ultimately to help the other /a/non in selecting a gift for you. Please don't just put "Surprise me."):
I don't get it. What wrong with more people joining?
I don't' see the appeal of such a show.
Whats good about it?
Still surprised it was a thing or that anyone thought it needed to be made in the first place, but I guess that goes to show how often people might make errors when sending their signup e-mails.
I thought the secret is suppose to be the sender of the gifts not a secret annual event.
It's not a secret club, it's just that we want to form a community with our fellow anons. That's like being upset that an office party doesn't invite people from another business over.
If you just want a giant internet secret santa for anyone at all, there's stuff like reddit or imgur. This is /a/ themed for /a/nons.
The latter half of the sentence is important.
Are you seriously asking that? More anons from /a/ isn't a problem. More people from other parts of 4chan or the internet trying to get in on this for free loot is.
SSS here. I just want to share something nice with everyone participating this year. I had been in talks with Peter Payne, the owner of J-List, and as a gift from he and I, we created a 10% off discount code that can only be used by /ss/ on J-List.
If you would like the code just give me an e-mail and I'll send it on over.
far harder to organize
last year iirc was like 300 or so people and this year i think i saw one of them say its about 500
it's an overly honest show, similar appeal as dr katz
it's not aged well or anything though so it's a bit of nostaligia mixed in
Late cards will start up on this Friday or Saturday depending on how I feel. If you need a reminder or just want an early in, send me an e-mail.
If it wasn't on the FAQ someone would probably be willing to answer. Well I would at least.
I still wouldn't watch it though. I already hate tsunderes just for their abusive behavior, I couldn't stand an anime where the wife abuses the husband because she gets off on it.
Ok then, I do agree now that only /a/nons should get to sign up for this.
Well, I'm doing the late card event so I can't take advantage of this.
Me too, I also can't tolerate overly beta men since their behavior really annoys me.
holy crap! How does they organize THAT?
Finally found a bunch of blank cards. The texture might not be right for drawing, but I could draw it on another paper then stick it on.
Time to start sketching things out
after work. Expect good stuff, ASF, LC, and J.
well, at least it would be easy for them to filter reddit
Still got that last 10% left don't you?
Send me an e-mail
[email protected]It's not free shipping, but 10% off the total price.
Yes. he had some trouble getting the code to work at first. He eventually fixed it.
Could always order a bunch of anime eyes to send with the cards.
>Not realizing this on your own.
>Needing explanation from other anons for something that just needs your common sense
Shit, anon. I'm not usually salty but for some reason, you irritate me.
>we created a 10% off discount code that can only be used by /ss/ on J-List
You're not required to use it. Conciser it a gift from Peter and I. It's yours to use or not. If you don;t want it don;t send and e-mail and shop somewhere else.
Sorry about your uncommon salt then.
I guess I really should know these things since I browse this board a lot.
How embarrassing... I saved the picture instead of the webM
I do send something every year. I just enjoy making other feel good during the holiday. I felt pretty bad the first time but now I'm used to it. If I get something this year, it'll be extra special since It will have 4 years of hype riding on it.
Do you have the picture of the recommendations card?
Ok then. You try and get up with the creator of amiami or Amazon.jp and see if they could make and special discount code for a backwater secret santa program such as ours.
BTW I'm NOT shilling. This is something Peter and I put together as a gift got /ss/. If you don't want to use it, you don't have to. No one is forcing you.
5 people already asked for it and do plan on using it.
Anyway I'm heading for bed. If some of you still want to the code, just send me and e-mail and I'll get back to you tomorrow.
Is this code you speak of generated individually for every person who asks for it, or is it just one code?
What's to stop one anon from spreading the code in here for other anons to use?
I would personally be embarrassed if I had this Card. But It does look decently drawn and I like the handwriting.
If you were planning on using J-List or even considering it, don't be a retard.
>NOTE: JList sucks, never use it, EVER, even if you want to support douchebags. They also sell onaholes as ‘joke products’, and masturbation is no joke.
Brb. shopping on Jlist.
I'm kidding. I' bought a Yui shirt from them and it took close to 8 weeks to get it in, even with normal shipping.
What the absolute fuck?
Rolling Girls got a nendo?
Why is it much more expensive?
Please don't tell me its pic related.
Please don't host too many threads relating to secret s/a/nta! I'm not saying THIS is too many but try not to go overboard anons!
By the way, if you see something posted by anyone that isn't me or santafaggot, it's not organized, endorsed or supported by us in any way or form. Thanks!
It actually works. I feel so dirty all of a sudden.
what did you get?
Sorry for bumping these threads, I wanted to sign up for late card and CDs.
had a feeling i forgot something, thanks for the reminder.
MW from Ont, you're handled.
>Mfw realizing the card I'm working on looks more like a Valentines card than Christmas card because of the colors I'm using
I'm not going to mention my assignment's initials until Christmas.
Thank you for that, by the way. It was kind of you.
Nichijou Vol.2 and Yuru Yuri Vol.10. God forbid they carry volume 1 of any of the manga I want.
It's okay, there's the late cards as well as the CD's and the sort, so no worries since I'm sure they want to raise awareness for those things too!
You like to live dangerously don't you?
Tried to find the most expensive figure on jlist.
A Devil Homura 1/3 doll
Converted to dollars, even the list price is cheaper than jlist's.
Got your cards covered:
KJC from FR NG from NL JC from CA ST from KS
MDfrom UK, I haven't started yet on your gift but I promise that'll it be something you want.
Or so I hope at least.
Actually, I said fuck it and got this shirt. I'd been meaning to for years. Jlist literally begs you not to buy manga with their shipping prices.
2013 was around 300
2014 was around 550
It was around 200 mid-October but I hear a massive amount of entries came in during the last week or so. Probably around 400 total.
I feel like people that sign up early should be matched with other people that sign up early. Or at least prioritize it that way. Or match up people that have participated in past years together
>"special discount code"
Look, a 10% "discount" on something marked up by 400% means that the buyer just got scalped a little bit less and Peter is still laughing all the way to the bank.
I've got you for cards

>mfw when ass end of the world
I wonder if there was anyone else. I'm sure there must've been. I'd rather bogans didn't have my address though.
>My initials get posted
>Not the same country
How do others feel about getting matched with people having similar tastes?
I know the Santas said they tried to match people up but I don't think that's necessarily better, buying gifts for my assignment feels like I'm just buying stuff for myself (very similar wishlist). Last year I got given some fujo with terrible taste but I felt it was more fun trying to find something because her taste was so different compared to mine.
Not that it really matters either way, just a thought.
>the Santas said they tried to match people up
My matches only had maybe one or two aspects in common, the rest I have to look up and research. I kind of wish their lists were more similar. It's easier to find quality merchandise when you know a bit more about the series and characters you're buying.
afaik they try to make requests for matching up like same province same country, but I don't know anything about them trying to wedge peoples tastes together, would be pretty insane to do that for so many people.
especially with how vague the categories would have to be to do so
You're more than welcome to request a fujo every time, to save someone else from the hassle.
I had one a couple of years back, and it was definitely not as fun.
The last two years they seem to have just seen SnW and matched me up with other wotobros, even though the other shows were different.
I'm definitely not complaining.
>was so stressed trying to make the perfect wishlist that I somehow forgot SnW
On a sidenote, has there been a date set for the annual /a/ rewatch yet? I've been training my bladder
at least the card anon that got you will get you a nice card
>Please respond in order to make sure we know you're still participating, any message will do.
Fuck, I only just read this. Am I still okay?
Depends on what the sentence is. If you're really specific and only really want stuff from the monogatari series and eva then that isn't really an issue because there's a lot of merch available for them.
However if you say your favourite shows are: Kill me baby, Serial Experiments lain and FLCL then it's significantly harder.
the amount of information you put into the words is what matters more.
it is always important to be concise, but paraphrasing things in such a way that it seems like a grocery list is a bit impersonal I think.
there is really no right or wrong way to do it, but you can't go wrong with more as long as you're providing new information as you talk instead of reiterating the same thing several times.
I did my first one yesterday with scissors and how I did it was I printed out a buncha copies and glued them onto cardsrock, then just cut out the parts I wanted and peeled off the paper.
Hair is a bitch though.
>didn't even mention a single name of an anime
You you reported it to Santa right?
Some clothing and local goods. I did mention it to Santaloli and I posted in the previous /ss/ thread to ask my /ss/ about his wishlist and thankfully he did post and gave three titles, although he was still undecided on what he really wanted to receive.
TYfrom SGI'm not giving you anything bad.
I wrote a bunch of stuff down but I wanted to give my Santa options in case they weren't familiar with using sites like Surugaya. I'm used to buying things on Japanese sites with a forwarder but if they didn't want to do that they had a list of other stuff I might be interested in.
I did not participate this year, because I am a shitty human being for my last year.
Ended up sending my gifts way too late, and that is not right at all, to make someone wait and worry that long.
I hope you anons enjoy your holidays and gifts from others.

>no initials in any thread
I'm gonna get grinched.
>already $20 over budget and haven't bought the main gift yet
Already bought my anon's gifts, waiting for them to arrive from Japan. Anon just listed shows and said "I already have most of the merch of my waifu" so I just bought several small items.
I've been grinched once and someone once openly complained that he hated my gifts (and my cookies were "decent"), then immediately resold them, so that made me sad. Hopefully this year will be better.
It's my first year doing this, so I just went for cards, but the /a/non gave me quite the list of his favorites.
I'm scared to reply and not meet his expectations since I don't draw well and have to look up 99% of his list.
Anybody have tips for newfags?
Just put some effort in and you'll be fine. I suck at drawing so I trace and fill in colors with watercolor/color pencil/fine liners. Make sure it doesn't look like you hastily threw it together and you'll be fine.
You can also try crafting your card using cutouts for example.
I thought it was a shot in the dark. I currently have a couple items stored at FJ, so if I happened to find anything else my gift recipient might be interested in I could buy it and add it to my order before it gets shipped out.

Chileand our Postal store sucks ass.
Whoever you are,

>I haven't used tracing paper since middle school, but I'll give it a go
What I do is use a blank card, put my laptop in a way that the screen is like a table and just trace that way, it works even with the thick paper of the card.
By cutouts I meant cutting out different coloured paper and sticking it onto the card.
Your tastes are
related to mine. I know what you draw you on your card.

My anons hopefully won't be disappointed. I'm unoriginal and went the casual route. Now the hardest part: drawing semi-decent pictures for my card anons. I'm a horrible artist. It'll be a challenge.
I'm in the 250+ tier and was ready to spend 500.
I just started looking for stuff, and the most I ended up with was $486 or so. Then I trimmed out the stuff I didn't think looked good, and ended up with about 350-400.
I sure hope you like figures MG of CA. That isn't the only thing you're getting though.

Fuck. Should I give this fag SNK merch he asked for instead? Although even buying that shit would feels dirty.
You're doing better than me. I'm trying to keep it below $50 but my /ss/ wants anime on BD and every series on his MAL is high value.
It's still a Christmas exchange, late just refers to the fact that the regular exchange is closed.
i have no fucking idea how to make my cards, should i draw something or cut out or?
could you /a/nons post some pictures with cards you received earlier?
I'm my experience, most people tend to draw.
The Yukari card had a great drawing on the inside, so you can mix printed art with drawings..
And this is the inside on the Gen'ei card. Pretty cute.

MMfrom INand ZPfrom COyou guys are going to get goody boxes really early.
/ss/ fucked my ordering so there is a chance that my two wishlists got sent to different two different brackets (25-50, 75-100). Assignments were already sent out and now I'm sorta worried.
But at the same time I don't want to be a new about it and cause a fuss.
I told you it would work. I spent a couple of weeks working this out with Peter. What reason would I have to lie about it?
Actually, they do. Just googling, there a shit ton of body pillows and there's 2 collections of blind boxes that are like little stand things. I've got both regular and swimsuit Lala. Also the specials are leaf girl and dragon girl.

I have already decided what I'm getting my anons, and will order it this evening. Then, when it all arrives, I'll lovingly wrap it and add a homemade card.

PS from Luxemburg, just wanted to let you know not to worry if you don't see your name mentioned here, as I'll 100% guarantee you'll get a gift.
Just so you know, though, I have no idea how much time it will take to arrive. Two years ago it took like a month from where I live (Romania) to get to France.
Last year, on the other hand, in two weeks I got a notification of the gift getting to Belgium.
So even if it's a bit late, don't worry, chances are it's getting there.

Signups had a very long time they were open, anon.
They closed early because shipping from Japan can take time, even with expensive shipping, mail delivery time increases exponentially as Christmas nears, and people need time to find/make stuff.
It's so the threads would have more time to be noticed by people actually paying attention. It closed in October so the people running it had more time to organize and give out the assignments so people could start working on their gifts. It's your own fault that you missed it.
>Can't afford everything in the end

I hope my Santa sends me something handmade. I'm sure he'll appreciate it as long as you put your heart into it.
It depends on their wishlist. I'm into kits and I wouldn't buy one unless they said they liked them too.
I got lucky and mine said they were into plamo, so I went almost all out with kits.
