I picked it up after episode 5, since my friend thought it went Samurai Flamenco because of a few threads, which it sadly did not. So, my perspective is a little bit different.

Regardless, I don't really find it that amazing. Regardless of that, I'm still interested in where it goes from here. I really just want more MC and Rei interactions though.

Because no one would ever sell death machines to the general public like that. If they go berserk after their memory is used up then they should have been designed to break if they try and exert a certain amount of force on their body by doing something superhuman. I thought people hates it because episode 3, or whatever the slice of life comedy episode was. At least episode 5 fit the same dramatic tone the series piloted with, even if it exposed a dozen logical fallacies with the world building

I personally like it, but I've found that one of the main reasons people don't like it is because "it doesn't know what it wants to be", which is bullshit. Just because something is a drama but has some comic relief scenes doesn't mean they "don't know what to do with it". It just means that there are some comedic moments along the way to accent the drama. The vice versa is also the case - just because the show is generally comedic and lighthearted doesn't mean there can't be drama in it. Anyone who thinks otherwise or thinks that a show can't show some tonal variation from episode to episode is a complete fucking moron and needs to read more and watch more film.

Other than that, a lot of people don't like the plot devices, especially the whole "androids can only like 84,000 hours" thing. A lot of other things don't make sense either, and I can understand why some anon's are upset.I assume they'll expand on things more later, however some people are impatient and want things spelled out to them in the first few episodes, and others hate lengthy exposition and spoonfeeding.

But all in all, it's not as though "/a/" hates Plastic Memories, it's just that opinion is very divided and there's little discussion of the show's good points because the perceived flaws (for now) are incredibly glaring, which attracts lots of shitposters (see: Death Parade threads from last season)

I was around long enough to watch Mahoromatic on sub release, even then, a decade ago the "android's clock ticking down to 0" was considered forced drama.

I approached this show with curiosity about how, after all those years, they will take on those tropes. I think it is still too early to say, but if they don't leave crap hanging like Mahoromatic did, they will have already made a better show.

That's a bad comparison.

There are two main reasons tobacco is not banned entirely today. First one is that it's a part of human cultural heritage and has been consumed for thousands of years (like alcohol). The second one is that even though a lot of people do end up getting cancer, the money they put into the budget from buying tobacco (which is heavily taxed) dwarfs the amount of money it takes for the healthcare services to care for those people.

Giftia in their current form would never have been allowed to enter public use in the first place, so there would be no comparable conditions. Or if they were, they would certainly put in some safety mechanisms, or have them retrieved way earlier to avoid situations like these.

Why do people like this shit? I dropped it at episode one for pretty obvious reasons. It seems that most people think that this "mature" concept for a drama gives it an excuse to be shallow in almost every aspect of the show. I can understand watching melodrama for pleasure but you watch this show without unironic lenses, then I feel terrible for you.
