How rare is it for anime/manga/VNs write good prominent adult characters for being adults doing adult-like things?

Pic related: Until going through this, I literally almost forgot adults were people too.

Shonenfaggotry is typically filled with unqualified adults making impractical decisions in impractical settings. Shou Tucker? Whitebeard? Feel free to elaborate unless you are trolling.

If you're talking about adults that don't act like autistic manchildren and are not shonenfag beatsticks, the first thing that comes to mind is Welcome to the NHK.

I'd also like to believe that this recent character isn't TOO farfetch'd.

how is that any different from umineko?
>>
>>124568925
I'd like to believe that tales of financial, marital, love and parenting struggles are more relatable than pirates and alchemy. Murder mysteries are impractical, but more realistic scenarios that explore actual mental processes in dealing with death.
>>
>>124569211
that still didn't answer his question

>They're still impractical decisions but at least they are the right setting right?
>>
>>124569211
so just because those things have been mentioned in the first 5 minutes, suddenly makes it better than when manga leave it out completely because its unnecessary for the actual topic of the story?

>but more realistic scenarios that explore actual mental processes in dealing with death.
hahaha, you have got to be shitting me, if you believe umineko is in ANY way realistic regarding psychology.
>>
>>124567743
Uhh Maes Hughs? Mustang? Garp? A number of other people who weren't necessarily involved in fighting

You're restriction is dumb because you're basically saying you can only have realistic adults in grounded settings, which discounts anything fantastical for no other reason but that it's fantastical
>>
Because growing up is the death of the heroism.
>>
>>124567606
Nope, all of them are ''adults'' who lead their life based on one principle. Thats not good writing at all.

What exactly did the manga omit? In both the manga and VN mediums, the openings of most acts covered the pre-1986 history of the families involved on the island. Of the four families of Kinzo's:

>Rosa's story was sufficient and realistic despite me hating her guts.
>Eva/Hideyoshi was simplistic with solid ground.
>Krauss/Natsuhi also present realistic scenarios.
>Kyrie/Rudolph surprisingly presented the least elaboration and strength of the four.

I am looking for more examples of the adults in anime who have several dimensions and fleshed out characteristics enough to make them admirable/detestable.

>You're restriction is dumb because you're basically saying you can only have realistic adults in grounded settings, which discounts anything fantastical for no other reason but that it's fantastical.

What makes it dumb? I am just curious about how often a non two-dimensional adult mentality is bestowed on actual adults. And I'm not completely discounting anything fantastical as my prime example has plenty of fantastical elements in it.

I don't get why I have to answer what makes a drama/horror different from a shonen.

Japan prefers teenagers even their dramas and video games center on teens.

So to answer your question: "somewhat rare"
>>

>Kyrie/Rudolph surprisingly presented the least elaboration and strength of the four.
I disagree, even if we are not shown their backstory outright there was plenty of story behind their relationship, especially when Battler left.
All of the four families backstory were fleshed out and fantastic. Out of the four I prefer Natsuhi's but that's to be expected since that's the one that sets the whole premise of the series.

>How rare is it for anime/manga/VNs write good prominent adult characters for being adults doing adult-like things?
It is a pretty small niche. Adult life in Japan is kind of the death of adventure and exploration. You'll find a lot of adults in manga/anime/VNs to basically be very one dimensional and more reflective of how kids and teenagers may view as an idealistic image of adulthood as opposed to how adults really are when doing adult things.

It is just really an underwhelming target market. Who wants to read about Tanaka working a 60 hour week as a salaryman with little to no variation in his life? There is also this: >>124569729

I think OP means admirable in the approval sense not 'OMG I wish I were X'.

If that's the case I see where OP is coming from.

In most anime (especially recent ones) adults are either written as joke characters, supporting characters, or characters so minor, they don't matter.

Pic related is an example of the supporting tier. Sanae/Akio aren't complete joke characters but neither of them are significantly fleshed out either.

Maybe there's some bias on my judgement on that regard. I'll admit most of that is because I felt Rudolph turned out a lot more passive and underwhelming that I anticipated - and act 7 Rudolph was pussywhipped as fuck. But when I think about it, his lack of manliness was reasonable as it took about 6 years for him and Battler to become a thing again.

It's about lesbians that are old enough to be doing adult things in the music/acting world, But also young enough to still be hot. It has those slight coming of age vibes but like 20-30 instead of 14-18. Real fuckin neato

The adults in the Monogatari series are my favourite example of this. They blow everything out of the water for me.

One of the things I like about the story is how it intervines the perspectives of teens and adulthood, and how subtle the difference really is to begin with. Well, subtle except in Snake's case.

The thing about them is that they're not just "adult" in the usual sense of delusions of maturity through conformity though. They're all self-realized individuals walking their own paths.
