I can see what you're talking about though.Like the Yuyuyu dvds on Rightstuf are nigh-prohibitively expensive by American standards, and I don't think people here care as much for the goodies that normally come with Blu rays. Come to think of it I don't think anyone I know would bother buying a dvd of a show they liked. They'd just download it and watch it somewhere.

I guess the problem with selling discs here is that it assumes people would bother buying them.

You know, everything with Sonoko didn't seem nearly this creepy or painful when I first watched this. Rewatching it with WaSuYu under my belt really changes everything. And knowing the details already so I can concentrate instead on the ambiance really makes a world of difference.

Yes its from the Vita game One of Sonoko's 21 fairies is a Baku, a Japanese spirit that enters peoples dreams and eats them. With it Sonoko can enter people's dreams and insert scenarios and then erase them, leaving the dreamer with only a sense of the emotion that they felt during the dream. Sonoko uses it to run simulations of how to fight the vertex. Then when she finds out who the new Yuusha are, she goes into their dreams and tests them to see if they are good enough to fight the vertex and stardust all at once in a decisive battle. All of the battles in the game and most of the SoL scenes are Sonoko placing different groupings of the girls in different situations to see how they react, how attached to each other they are, how much they care for each other.
Apparently this is the real reason her phone was taken away. She tried to tell the Taisha what she did and the results of her experiments to convince them to change how they were using the Yuusha and they became terrified and took it away. In doing so they pissed off Shinju as he is the one who gave that power to Sonoko and the Taisha are just the delivery boys. He then helped Sonoko get in contact with Togo and Yuuna and the rest goes as in the anime

A large part of the problems in the story were the adult members of the Taisha not being able to control their emotions and imposing their own decisions based on those emotions over Shinju's instructions. They kept the second group of heros at arms length, only communicating by text msg, because they feared their people becoming emotionally attached the girls and also that they would give away the secret as to what was beyond the barrier. They were afraid of Sonoko's belief in fighting a single decisive battle that if won would allow the yuusha time to demobilize and replacement yuusha to be found because there was still a good chance they might lose. They also disliked being lectured by a 14yo girl when they were adults and mostly male. But going against one of the Yuusha was going against what the Taisha were created for, to be the arms and legs that Shinju had given up in order to physically become the vessel that they are living in. They had no business interfering in communication between Shinju and the Yuusha or amongst the Yuusha themselves. So when Fuu and Togou turned against them Shinju stood by and let it happen when he could have just taken their power away[/spoiler]

One of the ironies of this show is that the girls, being still school girls and used to following instructions from adults, did not realize that their power comes from Shinju and Shinju alone. He is their only boss. The only one who might have realized it before ep 12 was Sonoko. But even she, because of her handicap, realized that she couldn't just boss the Taisha around, they had to cooperate, the Taisha can sit down and go on strike just as easily as the Yuusha could.

Its a spear. But the traditional kind of spear used in Japan is a little unusual in that its designed for cutting as well as thrusting. The spear head is in the shape of a short double-edged sword. Sonoko's magically enhanced version has multiple floating blades that surround and parallel the fixed blade. They can spin around the main one and act like a hole cutting saw, or they can be launched like Karin can launch her swords.
So she can stab, and also hack like Fuu's greatsword, and also throw projectiles like Karin's endless supply of Kodachi.
And I just realized that there is a real shortage of armed Sonoko art out there.

Fuu also failed her SAN check when she realized that she had inadvertently crushed Itsuki's dreams and doomed her and her friends to a horrible fate; that combined with her anger at the Taisha for deceiving them caused her to go full Mama Bear mode and go berserk.

Karin and Itsuki didn't fail their SAN checks at all, even though Itsuki got the rawest deal from Episode 5 and Karin went through her awesome fight.

They're going to have to retake more of the planet in order to power all of the new systems, so there's more risk of spreading themselves too thin and getting humanity destroyed.

Also, all of the usual expected problems with breaking the masquerade and telling everyone that the gods want everyone dead and that they all need to risk their lives in all-out total war. The US release is actually only 2/3 the price of the Japanese releases. And they're identical in quality except for a few of the bonuses like the VN and the Vertex core cases.

They can't sell a box set yet because they sold the first US volume (JP vol 1+2) before they even sold the fifth JP volume. And the US version includes even a dub.

Compare this to Aniplex's release of Rebellion, where the Japanese release and the US release cost about the same (JP = ￥ 10,350 = $87; US = $79.98). The US packaging is half-assed compared to the Japanese release, and there was a whole year between their release.

Pony Canyon USA could be doing much worse.

Yes its mostly what if scenes where Sonoko places different parings of the girls in various situations to find out their true feelings for each other.
After each dream the Baku eats the dream, erasing it, leaving the dreamer with only the emotions they felt during the dream.
The episodes with the WaSuYu cast though are probably Sonoko using the Baku on herself. Its the reason she was given it, Shinju's compensation for her being completely paralyzed. Sonoko's unique use of the Baku's powers were something Shinju did not anticipate, that she would use it to wargame fighting the vertexes and to test the new Yuusha were not anticipated, but seemed to please Shinju greately.

Nah, it's depended on who she's dealing with. Karin definitely cares for Itsuki and you don't see her ever got angry at her.

And it was stated in Episode 1 that in order to transform you needed to show your will to fight; Tougou had a will to transform and destroy the Shinju, and in Fuu's berserk state she had a clear will to destroy the Taisha. Yuuna was internally conflicted because she wanted to both protect Tougou and defeat the Vertex, and she couldn't reconcile those until Karin's talk with her.

Most of what we are discussing isn't even in the anime! Its in WaSuYu, the VN, the Vita game and Sonoko After.
Having a great story and no budget sucks. They had more than enough material here for a 24 episode season, and they were only able to put 12 of it on screen and even what the put on screen really needed a 13th episode.

It was already hinted in the last episode that Togo was able to communicate in the other direction while Yuuna was in the vegetative state. She just for whatever reason couldn't pick up the response. Or she was and couldn't interpret it correctly. Maybe she still hadn't remembered she had been a Miko till Sonoko mentioned it, which was after Yuno had awakend. Because she wasn't aware maybe she simply wasn't listening?

Sales dropped somewhat as the BD volumes went on, but it's still very successful, I do think we have a realistic chance of seeing an S2. I'm expecting the announcement after the last volume. If still nothing, then I'll just treasure the memory. There's always the Christmas rewatch.

S2 is almost confirmed, not only is Sonoko After huge sequel bait but Takahiro teased a big announcement after BD6 is released. There's also the fact that apparently 6k is the S2 number for Ponycan, with YuYuYu being Gokumi's bestselling series ever (an original at that). Also apparently the YuYuYu panel at Sakura-con basically confirmed that they want to do more YuYuYu
