Why is it that modern day anime looks like shit compared to older show from the 90's and 80's.
Even medicore shows like old Detective Conan had better animation than Kekkai sensen or Owari No Seraph.
>Anime just got lazy
It's always fun to see people who knows NOTHING about anime production, nor how the anime-industry works to day, posts these types of replies.
OP, there is too much anime made today, so the budgets are spread too thin, resulting in overall worse-looking show.
Norio Matsumoto's Naruto work
Birdy Decode 2's finale
Yoshimichi Kameda's FMA:B work
Yutaka Nakamura's Soul Eater work
No, I didn't. You blame animators. Are you a fucking retard? What, do you think anime is made 100% by animators?
Low budget, means that there is not a lot of money to take from when you make an anime (I will carefully explain, so that you can understand with your minimal intelligence).
>low budget means that you can't pay animators for many frames
When you don't have "many frames" it means that there are less individual pictures in the animation. This means that there will me more choppy, or long holds in the animation. This is where the "LAZY ANIMATORS" is triggered with people who don't know what they're talking about (like >>124253063 ). They will blame the animators for not having enough money to do as much animation as they'd like.
So, you fucking faggot, I NEVER did any such thing as even begin to agree with you. You said the "animators got lazy with technology". Which is NOT the case, you do obviously not know shit about animation, nor animators in general. The problem lies in the budgets alloted to each anime, as I said in my previous post. It's not because anyone is lazy.
Please educate yourself.
im not reading that wall of text you are retarded
>complain about animation
>animators should really step it up
>ANIMATORS DONT ANIMATE YOU FUCKING FAGGOT REEEEEEEEEEEE
jesus christ kid what is your problem
There's still lots of great animation being made these days, the real problem with modern animation is that young animators suck.
>not knowing the basics of movement
You are a dumb retarded ignorant hick
Because you confusing haremshit for actual anime. Pic related, anime is fine.
here, let me summarize, since your brain obviously can't handle long texts:
>Not much money
>Animators doesn't get paid
>Cannot make much animation
>show ends up looking mediocre
My problem is fucktards like you, who come from /v/ or reddit or whatever, and speak like they know shit. Stop attacking animators for the industry's faults.
>using Paul "faggot that thinks he's Otaking" Johnson's shitty frames with shit loads of shading and no realistic translation of movements "animation" as an example of good animation
I never thought anyone could be so retarded
it doesn't cost money to animate, maybe they should stop being so conceited and asking for such large paychecks when it is free to put a pencil to paper. that is just laziness.
I'm sorry, but Paul "Otagod" Johnson is the greatest artist and animator of our time. He will usher in a new age of animation.
Archer Ilya vs Saber Alter
Depending on the contract, aniamtors gets paid differently. Freelance animators (Which the industry heavily relies on) usually gets paid Per Sheet (3-4$), while there are other contracts which gives a more steady pay.
It's free to put pencil on paper, but making good cuts with lots of key-frames takes time, which again, is money. It's not lazy. Would you work for nothing?
And the reason young animators suck is because stuff like inbetweens are outsourced to other countries since it's cheaper so they don't get to learn from working with the material of people who know how to animate.
QUALITY has been around forever, in essentially every shape and form you see it in now.
Blue Submarine No.6 was what anime deserved to become.
THIS WAS THE FUTURE ANIME WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE!!!
not this terrible nightmare we're living in now
You can't fool me.
Pic partially related.
I remember watching some hentai from the 80's -90's and I did not expect a top notch animation with gorgeous shaders, first I watched, then I fapped.
Are you? Literally every pre-2000s anime is a masterpiece of animation and shading, pic highly related.
>this thread for the umpteenth
>exact same misinformed posts
Stop shitting up /a/ you faggots.
That's wrong though
NO, I NEVER ASKED FOR THIS
a 12 year old 26episode TV series should not look better than currently airing stuff.
IGPX was everything 2000's anime should have become, top tier animation, amazing sound design, and silky smooth CG that uses advanced camera angles that can't be achieved by regular animation
I am aware "digital colors" and "CG mechs" aren't a substitute, but by god, we should at least be able to achieve this quality, IF NOT BETTER
The sad thing is some anime actually do still use ps1 tier cgi
Some people prefer the old cel sheets method over the new digital method.
Honestly is not like old anime was better, it's just that everytime these threads are made people post anime with high budgets or movies instead of airing shows.
Akazukin Chacha and Candy Candy are great but the animation is kinda bad and then you have shows like stuff produced by Kyoani that has some tasty animations.
The keyword here is budget when it comes to animation and the aesthetical differences between the two methods are just a matter of preferences.
>muh glorious past
I sure love how fags who are probably not even 18 talk about 20 years old shows.
I sure love those glorious 80's when there were 8 TV anime made per season. 6 of them shows for little kids. And then another 15 crappy low budget OVA's with plot that makes average LN look sophisticated.
>Surrender monkey protag
Why don't you post a real anime, boy?
Anime died when SHAFT invented moe and released K-ON! in 2000.
All 2 of you samefagging about glorious 80's? Yeah, okay.
I love how all scenes you fags post are from the same few high budget OVA's and movies. When average anime from 80's or 90's was low budget trash full of stills and reused animation.
Only hard gay faggots watch modern anime.
That show was nothing but irony and self loathing. Sure is great to see a show about animation that barely has any, or scenes that were supposed to be over the top that didn't deliver (Exodus Finale).
People should start watching REAL well animated animes like Fist of the North Star and REAL manly STRAIGHT animes for STRAIGHT people like Gundam Wing
Look at all this fluid animation ,guys!
Thanks to digital tech even mass produced cheap TV shows can have okay action.
In the past they would have reused animation and stills.
I mean, LOOK at ALL this FLUID well SHADED anime in the 80s.
compared to nowadays GAY-ASS anime like THIS with ABSOLUTELY no FLUIDITY
>Dat flawlessly handcrafted cel animation at 1:08
If you don't believe just how bad modern anime just look at this. It's the same exact scenes, only drawn 20 years apart. Warning: Watching this may ruin modern anime for you forever.
Indeed, my FRIEND. Anime turned into SHIT. Gotta watch REAL 80s GOLD, not NOWADAYS TRASH with NO animation
^ THIS is badly animated TRASH
And THIS is the pinnacle of fluid 80s TRUE animation
>our Lord and Saviour Anno predicted that moefags would ruin the anime industry
>a decade later
>they actually did
>Nips don't care about animation, it's all about the moeblobs now
>Nips can't into recent technology except for CGI
>Only Ufotable and Madhouse can do decent animation coupled with CGI
>pre-2000's anime used to be filled with action, now it's all about drama/moeshit because animators can't into action scenes
>mfw the future would be just filled with edgy moeblob shit-drama anime with 1 - 3 action scenes per season
>mfw only based Ufotable and Madhouse can save us
I hope we can come up with a technology that would save the anime industry from shit-tier young animators.
back to whatever shitboard you call your home
While older anime has more frames, I feel like animators of today are better at overall scene choreography and movement. Haven't seen that much of the old stuff so might be terribly wrong.
Very funny anon, I almost believed you were being serious.
SHAFT can actually do decent animation...except they're just wasting their potential.
>tfw Kizu never
>Monogatari S3 when
>Nisekoi gets another season while Monogatari is on the waiting list
Fuck you SHAFT.
The only problem with modern animation is its overdependence on poor CG effects. I've seen some good CG, and I'm not talking about that. However, I'm sure everyone has seen the shit I'm talking about, where it would probably be fucking easier to draw it than make a CG effect of it.
Do people really think that shit looks good? Why are people so attracted to CG?
>maybe they should stop being so conceited and asking for such large paychecks
Don't go there. Animators aren't exactly living it up. If you don't have "lead" in your title you could make less as an animator in a month than you could working a single day at an entry level job in some factory in America. They do it for passion, not for money. They're living off of pennies just so they can do what they love, and anime studio executives abuse them for this, giving them not nearly enough to live off of (most animators have roommates or parents who pay most of their bills because I don't know about you but no way I could live off $100 a month).
So next time you try to call animators greedy or lazy try not talking out of your ass. They're severely underpayed and overworked, doing the best with what they have.
Would you establish a union for animators and video game programmers/designers so that they would be more encouraged to work and not just be treated like slaves by the filthy mongrels on top of the business?
If no, why not?
You'd see a budget spike in anime.
Though with a lot of the trash we get every season a little pruning might be a good thing. Sure, a few good shows over the last few years might not have been made with that sorta standard (Kill Me Baby comes to mind), but it would mostly be trash that would get canned.
A union just needs to set set of rules and standards to be met in order to assure that people working in the animation and gaming industry would get the salary that they deserve. Also, it would help improve the quality of anime produced so we would have less /a/utists complaining about animation quality and the fact that the animation and gaming industry would be unionized will mean that there won't be that much stigma associated with it anymore.
Am I the only one who's never thought the 80s example in that pic looked so great? Yes, it's got more detail than the other one (which just looks retarded), but it's ugly as fuck.
No, see, this was a landmark of artistic expression.
Aren't these both Symphogear
or is that the joke and I'm just thick?
Of course they're not both Symphogear, do you really think a modern anime could have such amazing shading?
>Obviously he knew she was a girl the entire time.
He's a 17 year old from a country that's not America who still needed sex explained to him.
It's not that obvious, even with context.
I'm morre triggered with the claws, the wings and the colors, though. I'm not an oldfag going nuts here, since I'm all for new art and vfx but... this is kinda the point they're making right here
Bad analogy. New cars are ugly and made out of plastic or fiberglass instead of stainless steel and chromium like they used to be. There are still sexy cars, but they're not as sexy as they used to be.
fuck i need to watch ping pong again
The coloring is done with computers, therefore it's going to be uniform and have a 'plastic' lifeless look to it most of the time. That effect in the flames looks like it was added with the help of computers too.
>Everyone has never seen the sun
>Everyone has the same face even more than the first time
I don't care a much more more advanced the lighting and physics are of the car models, Legend is 100% shit.
Digital animation makes things look extremely samey, and removes too much of the human element that goes into artwork, you know, it just looks too perfect and clean, and that's not interesting. Another thing is the current "in" artstyle that a lot of studios are using that I hate, you know, that sort of light novel-tier style with no shading, the broken line for a mouth and whatnot.
I dunno, it just takes most of my interest away since I mainly like anime for the art, and when all the art looks like the same I just stop caring about it. To top it off, I feel like shows are too busy now, like it's breaking the barrier of being a cartoon and instead looking more like a live action show, only animated. I guess a lot of people like it that way, but I don't think it's very interesting to look at, at least not coupled with the above factors. Some people pull it off very well, but a lot don't, and even the ones that do it well don't really blow me away.
Of course there are exceptions, and there are talented people out there who've put out great stuff in the last decade, but it just feels like you're not missing out on anything if you decide to skip a lot of the shows that fall below a certain threshold.
I'm sure I'm not explaining myself properly when it comes to my problems with current animu, but maybe someone will understand what I'm trying to get at.
It's a matter of art style culture, not of budgets. Though "copy the last success to milk it" among executives must have something to do with it.
Whilst I like Shaft, their style is more a refinement of the dominant one than anything that innovative.
It's sad when a studio actually blows a lot of budget on really good animation that is different from all the samey shit we get nowadays and shiteaters talk shit about it because they have absolutely no taste.
Like there are a lot of people that say Ping Pong looks ugly.
Or the Naruto vs Pain fight had some of the best animation in the modern industry, but the average Narutard thought it was shitty animation and said it was ugly because it was an artstyle they weren't used to
>It's sad when a studio actually blows a lot of budget on really good animation that is different from all the samey shit we get nowadays and shiteaters talk shit about it because they have absolutely no taste.
The Japs barely care about animation, man. So many of their hardcore fans are just obsessed with all the cute little girls they can buy figures of, and not of the artwork or animation itself. It's just a vehicle to deliver their daily dose of lolicon soma to obsess over until another one appears for them to move on to, in a never ending cycle.
it also happens to be adapted from a manga thats better than 90% of other manga, whats your point
manga is the superior format, why do people get hung up over anime?
sure, cel produced anime tend to be a bit more visually appealing (as a whole), but when you compare sakuga it isn't inherently "better" than digitally coloured anime
animation hasn't gotten worse either, people compare films and ova with tv shows and expect the same quality the entire time
and don't try and say some shit like "lol look at hokuto no ken" or *insert other long running series* either, 99% of the time those shows were just like digitally produced shows, they were flatly colored without the hyperdetailed shading and then when shit called for it, it got done better, with more inbetweens and shading than normal
people like paul "i cherrypick cels from 80s high budget ovas and compare them to cherrypicked shots from 60+ episode weekly series" johnson can die, for all they act like they know about the industry they don't have any patience or love for it since it hasn't really changed
