How come Kadowaki Mai is the only seiyuu who has both the looks and the voice? Why is that such a rare combination in the anime world?
Is this a thread in which we argue about female aesthetics, even though it's mostly a subjective matter reigned by personal preferences?
If you ask me, most modern seiyuu are at least above average looking.
Called and raised with Ogino Karin.
OP is entitled to his opinion, no matter how wrong he is in thinking that.
Japanese seiyuu are picked for their voice. Not just their looks. Unlike most live action actors who can get by just on their looks and be shit actors.
Even with that however, there's plenty of Seiyuu who have become superstars and idolized for their looks. I never thought Megumi Hayashibara was hot, but clearly Japan did. Same with Horie and Hirano.
There is plenty of both in the industry.
Idols like Nana and Yukarin co-exist with seiyuu like Sawashiro and Chiwa which are mostly normal women.
Then you have ones that are somewhere inbetween like Noto.
It's just that nowadays Idol seiyuu are the ones most in the spotlight.
Yukarin is still hardly a looker even now, but she has a certain charm that is hard to describe.
Plus she looks a bit loli, and has nice legs even as a old hag.
Ogura is pretty, if you pay attention to her face you start noticing the make-up at work though.
>Yukarin is still hardly a looker even now
Depends on what you're looking for in a woman.
>but she has a certain charm that is hard to describe.
Exactly. Some people specifically like the girls who look more 'normal', but have a unique personality. Something we need to see more of in all forms of media.
Yukarin has an amazing personality for sure.
I feel that was always her main appeal.(Besides her voice, of course.)
I find that koebuta are pretty lenient about the looks of their respecticve seiyuufus.
If that was their main concern they would be following mainstream Idols instead of seiyuu Idols.
