You know a little about Japanese culture and anime in general. It isn't a show that you can show a westerner as their first anime. It makes a lot of industry reference humor and japanese-style humor.

It is a veritable who's who of voice acting talent. The animation is amazing when shit gets real.

Also the first 25 episodes or so are character introduction. Basically in the show each character has their "schtick" that is established and that schtick is used for jokes throughout the entire series. It takes awhile to build up to speed but once it is there, it is hilarious for the other 200+ episodes. Personally I liked the first 25 episodes but most people say that they are a chore to get through, I don't know why.

But it is a great series. Great writing. It can go from side splitting humor one second to, cry-like-a-bitch sad, to holy-shit-shit-got-real all within the same episode. I definitely recommend watching it.
