Digital anime is a mistake

GitS 2.0 was a mistake.
Digital coloring is fine.

i actually agree with you to an extent. while the shift towards digital made lightbox bloom effects dissappear, and the crispness of inked cels were shifted towards more clinical lineweighting, you can replicate it. i think that with enough post you can get the same lightbox effect and i would actually devote myself to reproducing it as an animation technique, but i'm worried about the idea of never being able to put food on the table with my craft. maybe it's lack of conviction.

basically it'd go like this
>vector lineart animation, autocoloring and
inbetweening
>texture filtering ilneart and color layers
>post processing for bloom/SUPER subtle crhomatic abberation that a box camera would cause, and film grain

grain and noise alone wouldn't be enough. that's why i mentioned texture filters (bleed/spread),bloom, and CA. those on top of the grain/noise would help push the illusion. they also probably didn't realize that the camera probably converts to a weaker color bit depth, like it'd be squashed in post as well if they had enough interest in it. i should write out a process for this.

You can add grain and noise filters to calm your autism/nostalgia for cels. But you can't go back to non digital anymore.

again that's just your opinion. some people prefer different aesthetics. it has nothing to do with autism so i don't know why you're trying to bring that up. it's almost like you have nothing to discuss and you want to resort to ad hominem. i already said, for a third time, that grain and noise filters aren't enough to reproduce the aesthetics of traditional cel animation, which for the most part, looks superior to digital animation due to the way a lightbox behaves under the frames, and how a low bit depth camera/scanner took images and converted them. just because you think that it's enough to have it be digital, doesn't mean others should. deal with it. i put some effort into observing the pros and cons of both, and while it can be a subjective viewpoint, digital emulating traditional mediums using filters alone looks highly procedural/unappealing. and you aren't a rule for going back or sticking to anything. all my methods are applicable through post anyway.

Those pros and cons are based on funding from various companies that invested into them. if anything is irrelevant to the discussion at hand it'd be something that doesn't take into account the superior fidelity of traditional cels. and your reference to day and age is silly, considering that natural mediums are always treated with greater value on all spectrum of the industry, whether its official art, manga,anime, and so forth. the industry's direction doesn't change the negative aspects that have been discussed already. your argument makes cloud storage seem like a superior thing and SSDs are never coming back, but if you tried that argument you'd be ridiculed. why? because it's wrong. there's no influence becuase the two approaches are different. i like digital done well and traditional done well, but for the most part traditional scores better in quality. if redline was only done digital with no hand drawn keys it wouldn't have been anywhere near as good.

G Reco is one of the best looking show of this season, and actually in a long while in general for a tv series, but still, it doesn't really look like cel, the colouring is too uniform, the colours itself are still too saturated and the backgrounds are too sterile.
But again, pretty good looking show, much better than BFT and 00.

And this is where you've outed yourself as someone who has no idea what he is talking about. Most shows are still hand-drawn(mostly on paper even), then coloured and composited digitally. Redline is no exception to this process.
