>he is now traveling with two girls and no other boy
this can't end well
Clemont temporarily left the party to train in the gym. The episode goes like this - Clemont homolusts for Ash, realizes he is not seeing himself as "better" than Ash, they visit Kalos Power Plant, TR hijacked the power supply, lots of people died, electric Pokemon went berserk, Luxio evolves, Clemont leaves at the end to go to Lumiose earlier. Oddly enough he left Dedenne and his sis.
He does. He left to train so he is worthy of his lover.
Another plot twist?
Maybe I should pick up Pokemon full time again. First Serena cuts her hair and now we have a character leaving.
Oh yeah this is next ep.
>Jessie getting NTR'd
Brock being gone is actually a good thing. He was pretty pointless from Johto onwards.
He feels bad for Brock so he will not partake out of respect.
They should get rid of Bonnie too and call it even
There is nor character development other than Ash and Brock changing pokemons once in a while. Thats why this anime is shit. It's just a huge commercial. Even in my little pony that also serve as commercial there is a character progression and they becoming older every season
They have been given some freedom maybe?
Pokemon is a cash cow that needs filler episodes and a routine but something is going on fans are being given some movement on the story. The monotony has been broken
What about it?
It wasnt bad, but any mediochre shonen has better fights than that, and even if that was good, it doesnt justify a show of 800 episodes where nothing happens.
>Pokemon is a cash cow that needs filler episodes and a routine
Other cash cows franchises do it better
> fans are being given some movement on the story.
That's a bad thing though, since the pokemon fanbase is retarded and hates good writing.
I'd argue it's the best barring Doraemon in its demographic.
I don't see any flaws for XY yet.
Yeah no, you probably think like >>121835423
>OS Ash being the same as XY Ash
Original season was the best
Orange Islands was some decent OC
Master Quest began the routine
Advanced killed the anime
DP revived the anime and the franchise
BW was totally forgotten
XY is going to be one of the best seasons
there are a LOT of moments in this show
>shifting the discussion to shitposting so easily
and here I thought /a/ would be smarter
>i can't argue properly!
outside of snarky Ash it was... eh
I'm pretty sure that 75% of the weaboos watching animu are doing it purely for shipping purposes. Like
>Not calling Moot
So is XY good like the new Yugioh show is, or are people just watching it to see if Ash bangs the girl this time?
Also superior Serena.
>there are people on /a/ who don't love watching kids shows to feel like a loli
What the fuck is wrong with these faggots?
Well, the series always pulls a "almost" there romance towards the end of the season then we get a new girl.
>lack of good rivals (I guess Shauna is ok, but Tripokalon is shit)
>no overarching plot outside of the mega specials (like DP and even BW had with the villainous teams)
>wasting episodes on a meaningless pairing that won't get anywhere
>the Korrina arc was handled terribly
That's all I can think of. It's not bad, but people make it seem like the evangelion of the pokemon genre, which isn't true.
>TR being the same shit
anon they've been competent since Korrina left, sure the heroes foil them but their plans are less retarded now
we've never actually seen the meat of Tripokalon though
I'm still trying to figure out what that sleeve-less jacket she's wearing is.
Like most people on /a/, Pokemon was my first anime ever. Sure I don't watch every episode but I still follow the series because it is ongoing. If it wasn't for Pokemon I wouldn't be watching anime, I would be a gamer on /v/ instead.
A little of both, also I want to see some Rocket development and see what Giovanni has up his sleeve
at this point I have a feeling they won't go for a rival because
Ash might actually head to fight E4 and Diantha
those stuff didn't really happen in AG and BW until later anyway, and XY is still not done with the mega evolution shit (not the specials mind you)
I give you that
Giovanni actually told them to do that after seeing what Pikachu did to him.
meanwhile, Arceus actually is important in the movie according to the translation
>what is it
Fashionable as fuck.
Anon I think you might have misread my post.
In the beginning it had some build up at least. Too bad it was dropped due to the earthquake.
Then it had a load of nothing for a long time (the Meowth arc was pretty interesting though)
Then the Meloetta arc
And only then Team Plasma returned.
Even with this ADHD-ridden plot, it still got more time dedicated to villainous teams than XY for now.
But there was only one episode where they didn't chase Pikachu and that was Season 1 Episode 1, after ep2 they haven't given up. Giovanni should have already known about Pikachu after what happened at the Viridian Pokemon center
You're going for "typical stuff in a Pokemon anime" though. Lysandre is already in mega evolution and it seems to connect with the main anime in a future ep so there's that.
No, see he didn't care for TRio and Pikachu until that Meloetta arc. He became a god or something (it's shit) and got buttblasted by Pikachu. So now he tells them to get that Pikachu.
That's right, they were trying to get Pikachu because they thought it would be special for Giovanni. Personally I think they would be better off just catching a wild one and training it.
I bet if Pokemon didn't have filler it would be 26 episodes long every season
That's the cutest art of Korrina I've seen.
She is one of my favorites
>your face if they actually brought Misty or Brock back
I would pick it up instantly
I'm up for occasional filler if it has something funny to it and a hot new pokegirl to go with it
>Ash might actually head to fight E4 and Diantha
Yes but his heart still belongs to Pikachu
>this can't end well
Yes it can.
Was she ever out of love?
I like it when Ash meets a new girl and Serena gets jealous
>I'm fine with filler honestly, it's just that I want one that's unique and fun instead of the same shit.
You just described almost 75% of XY's fillers, depending on what you consider "filler".
Not necessarily, these early hype articles mostly just toss up a bunch of questions related to hat we know about the movie.
Arceus will definitely play a role, but it doesn't have to be a particularly major one.
Not entirely I would like to see some awesome battles but Ash isn't the character for that due to the fact his team is more cute than battle ready. I want to see some Mega vs Mega battles or some Mega vs Legendary battles.
Wait Misty is banging someone else? Brock has a chance to get laid? This seems strange. Also even if each chapter of the series would equal 1 day Ash should be already 18 or something is he still 10?
There are occasional OVAs that come out and are about previous members and what they are doing now. Dawn has her own underling, Brock has his family stuff, Misty does her thing, May is off being titymonster somewhere
>Also even if each chapter of the series would equal 1 day Ash should be already 18 or something is he still 10?
I wish someone would pick out which episodes of the show are actually fun to watch and make a list of it.
By "fun to watch" I mean the ones where it actually feels like Ash and crew are on an adventure, which is supposed to be the whole point of the show. In OS for example you had episodes like them nearly drowning in the not-titanic, or them getting attacked by giant pokemon etc. An episode where they just go "look we've reached this random destination, we met a pokemon and solved some random problem for him" arn't fun.
The Pokemon world has a lot of potential for a fun show but like 70% of the time its obvious they just don't really care.
That make sense though I guess that means all chapters are filler unless the writers want to introduce an event that will last for the rest of the series, like when on the Simpsons they kill a character.
then they bring up "muh story and goals" forgetting that the goal is vague as fuck (much like Doraemon, or rather, Doraemon has a clearer goal than Ash) or has a tendency not to affected by time (much like Conan)
>Conan is still on pills
Well to be honest the arcs where the "plot" in conan moves foward exist, though the last time I read the series was on chapter 800 something and it was like 200 or more since the last real plot related arc.
I'm a sucker for my roots
Well, on these other instances the show is mostly extremely episodic. Pokémon has a clear progression towards the goal of participating in each league, so it becomes really jarring quickly.
Been like 10 years since I last watched any pokemon anime, so yesterday I watched the first 4 episodes of XY and it was quite fun, but nowhere near as good as the very first season, but that might just be my nostalgia.
Eh, you could argue that the league is more like a stretched Doraemon episode if anything. And even then those episodic shows have continuities.
That came out last year and it's more like a "stop goal". Maybe we can see it in the anime when XY ends.
A clear progression that's pretty much reseted every fours years.
Even if it appears to have some progression in his battling skills and in how many pokemon/characters Ash has met, everything else is still the same.
I'm guessing it's a character development episode or something? I don't mind those in moderation, but Pokemon purports to be an adventure series but has very little actual adventuring. It's more like watching a tourism ad for places that don't exist.
Those two didn't even get a cameo in the main series of BW, just a quick role in the five minute OVA
Huh, I'm surprised people still don't know Doraemon's goal/premise.
Doraemon was an invention by Nobita's son from the future. In his son's future, Nobita married the bully's sister instead of Shizuka, part of which was because of Nobita being a dumbass. So Doraemon was sent back in time to make sure Nobita gets to better his life and marry Shizuka.
It obviously has paradoxes and shit, but hey.
Episodes from the original series (Kanto, not Johto) were definitely more creative, had better dialogue and with better comedy at some points. But if you mean technical aspects like direction, animation, plot and such, them they pale in comparison to new episodes.
>Doraemon was sent back in time to make sure Nobita gets to better his life and marry Shizuka
I know that's what his goal is.
I thought you're talking about something different, probably related with the new movie.
And I haven't seen it yet.
The difference is that all those shows are almost purely episodic. Time in Pokemon clearly passes. One-year anniversaries occur in-universe, Gary Oak has actually grown up to the point where he's running his own laboratory, other things in the world change, etc.
The reason people complain about Ash's age is because while time obviously and visibly passes for the world and the people in it, Ash is somehow immune and constantly 10, yet no one acknowledges this or notices.
Original: Brock, Misty
Orange: Misty, Tracy
Jhoto, Master Quest: Misty Brock
Advanced: May, Brock, Max
DP: Dawn, Brock
BW: Iris, Cilan
XY: Serena, Clement, Bonnie
I hated that so much
True, but you can argue that The Simpsons has continuity too and therefore should also be criticized for this. Continuity doesn't necessarily mean the characters have to age, especially when no one around them ages and the world is stuck in a perpetual state of sameness. This isn't the case with Pokemon, because almost everyone progresses in life except Ash himself.
The end of the first series/start of Johto Journeys is explicitly stated in-show to be a year after Ash started his journey.
I'm torn between Dawn and Serena.
I don't mind the occasional battle. An occasional cinematic battle with explosions and cool strategy would be nice. Besides if I want battles I'll play the game.
The problem with most battles in Pokemon is that they just feel like rock-em-sock-em robots and the players trade blows until one of them keels over (So I guess it's kinda accurate to the game in that way, funny enough).
Usually I only bother checking out the show during leagues because that's the only time it feels like the trainers have any sort of overall strategy for their battles. They'll actually switch out their Pokemon, or use the field to their advantage, that sort of thing.
I don't count the dubs as canon, a lot of stuff gets lost in translation and TV standards. Besides these days I don't have to wait for the series on TV I can watch it a few hours after being released in Japan
Tln: hey satoshi.
you two look close have you traveled together?
If I didn't know any better if say you two love eachother
Satoshi: we do love eachother isn't that right pikachu
>the trainers have any sort of overall strategy for their battles. They'll actually switch out their Pokemon, or use the field to their advantage, that sort of thing.
So why are you not watching XY's battles ?
League battles are pretty sweet, I still love the original series Pokemon League and the league battles at the end of Master Quest.
Serena satisfies all my boners for long hair, shoulders and legs.
Yes, every gym battle had some sort of improvisation in it.
She can be anybody you want her to be
XY's battles are okay but they have a ridiculous amount of stock footage (and it's not hidden well, there are lot of editing tricks you can use to make it less noticeable). A little bit is understandable, but they even ended 3 out of the 4 gym matches they've had so far with that same shot of Pikachu firing thunderbolt. I kinda figured with Pokemon having so much filler they'd save their money to make the gym battles really impressive.
>not liking Volt
I'd agree that they've use it too many times.
No one else ages either.
No one ages in the show, only events move forward but in the grand scheme of things, what's really important, which is Ash and Pikachu and Ash's goal, remains the same.
>because almost everyone progresses in life except Ash himself.
But that's not true at all. He has many more pokemon, many more friends, many more victories, participated in 6 leagues and won one, completed the battle frontier, getting further and further each time. He has a large amount of extremely strong pokemon, if he wanted to be a dick about it, he could just use Charizard, Snorlax, Pikachu, and whatever else are his strongest pokemon over and over for each match and probably win easily. That's not the way he works though, it was even commented on in the episode when he left Charizard in the Valley to train. Misty said something about the fact that he had been using Charizard excessively in his gym battles and none of his other pokemon were getting a chance to fight.
Just because he's progressing slowly doesn't mean he's not progressing. I imagine a goal like becoming a pokemon master isn't very easy, you use Gary as an example, but he just quit, Misty isn't much further to her goal of becoming a "Water pokemon master" whatever that is, and Brock gave up on breeding to become a doctor.
And yeah, watch XY. The battles are much better, shit like abilities and field advantages, stuff like that. They still don't switch out pokemon regularly though.
Volt is here to stay, deal with it.
>XY's battles are okay but they have a ridiculous amount of stock footage
It's the same amount as previous seasons, the difference is that there's no abstract background changing colors anymore.
I don't remember if Pikachu's thunderbolt only had one stock footage in previous seasons or not.
> I kinda figured with Pokemon having so much filler they'd save their money to make the gym battles really impressive.
They're putting a good amount of effort in the fillers, I don't remember a single filler badly animated.
The gym battles ARE really impressive animation-wise, and the storyboards are delicious. The stock footage is not a big problem.
>Leaves Charizard in what could be construed as DayCare.
>It's his highest level mon
>It's been getting XP from EVERYTHING
So please tell me Charizard is at least level 70 by now.
Why do you even make these threads, OP? I know /vp/'s anime general is cancer but it's better than a bunch of faggots trying to convince people who haven't seen Pokémon since 1999 that XY is good.
Remember when the gym battles weren't fillers?
Remember when the fillers were good?
So what is the best way to be the champion story wise?
Battle 8 gym leaders then 4 super trainers and 1 champion
Battle 8 gym leaders enter a tournament with your peers, winner take all
He almost did.
Catch and release?
They'll cry and there will multiple threads saying "muh childhood" or "look who won the ashbowl or satoshibowl". Even "he's finally a master" then some emoticon since the picture would be of ash
From this winter and last fall season I don't see a lot of things that can be considered at the very least good. They ARE really good animes out there like Durarara, GBFT or Shigatsu, I'm not denying it but they are a few. XY may not be on this level yet but it's pretty damn close.
Even shows considered below average due to poor pacing, dialogue, characters or animation would at the very least be on par with Pokemon, which has these traits by default.
Any show considered average, or above average, would be miles above it.
>Even shows considered below average due to poor pacing, dialogue, characters or animation would at the very least be on par with Pokemon, which has these traits by default.
That's the thing, XY doesn't have these (aside maybe about the pacing that is sometimes hit or miss).
On the animation side, the only long-running anime above it these past years is HunterxHunter 2011, and XY even shits on a lot of 1-2 cours series.
The group of characters is really fun, they even have the best little girl since Kaga Rin and one of the only great roles of Kaji Yuuki. It's still a kid anime so the characters are simple yes, but they do have better personalities than all the archetyped characters you see on the run-of-the-mill-anime.
>still no actual character development
I would gladly take criticism if it was valid. I'd rather not waste bandwidth uploading pictures and evidence to disprove a claim that would not even be being made if the person just watched the anime though.
You know what I would like to see next?
A kuudere female companion.
>no actual character development
>no actual character development, or meaningful dialogue.
Pokemon is the best because I say so
This I will agree with, it is sad when I can leave a series for a few episodes and pick it back up and find I didn't miss anything at all. XY has been going on for 63 episodes and not much has happened except in the last 4 episodes. Ash doesn't have a full team, Serena just caught her first few Pokemon and Ash only has a few badges. It took 63 episodes to do all of this? Season 1 did nearly everything in 50 and had to add filler to slow the series down, XY is too slow and there is too much filler.
>XY doesn't have these
>When people laugh, Pokemon laugh as well
>When people are sad, Pokemon are sad as well
That's within the first 2 minutes of the first episode.
On top of that, there has been no actual character development, or any real changes to the status quo.
Characters are very shallow by any standard, and have no interesting or unique personality traits.
>the only long-running anime above it
We're comparing it to '70% of the past year", not just other long-running anime.
It serves its purpose as a show for kids, and is definitely watchable, but it is by no means above average.
>Season 1 did nearly everything in 50 and had to add filler to slow the series down, XY is too slow and there is too much filler.
Which is why we had to get an entire filler season with a whole filler league.
Season one isn't a good standard since things were not really set in stone back then. It's been going about the same pace as the other seasons have to avoid that.
A new region isn't coming for at least another 2 years, you want Ash to be at the league already?
This is what I don't get. Almost everyone agrees that it's a nice anime for what it is, but why does everyone want to convince people that it's a very good show with little to no flaws?
Isn't that's what fans always do to convince people and themselves that they have good taste?
So what if this one single part of this monologue (and not dialogue mind you) is simple ? That doesn't make it poor.
No character development ? When since the begining they always made it a point that Serena was searching for her goal and she has it now ? Even Clemon is on his way to grow now.
And I am really curious to know what your 'standard' for character is. They may not be the greatest but they are without a doubt good.
>We're comparing it to '70% of the past year", not just other long-running anime.
The comparaison whith long-running animes was about animation.
>but why does everyone want to convince people that it's a very good show with little to no flaws
It does have flaws, that's why it's not the greatest anime out there. It's just that all of its qualities make up for it and put it far above average.
Best girl by the length of the flemington straight
To keep viewers, you don't want them to get bored or question why they are watching the series.
I still think its nice, but those are my personal preferences and my personal observations from watching the show for so long.
>So what if
>They may not be the greatest
>It does have flaws
>admitting that the animation can only compare to long-running series
>far above average
Why write such an apologetic post, and then claim that it's far beyond average?
As for dialogue, if you want to argue semantics, we can just use the word writing.
For a 2014 example, a show like Zankyou no Terror is considered to be below average, but it still outdoes this show in every aspect.
You are watching a cartoon directed at children to sell toys and video games, it's not a masterpiece.
Stop deluding yourself.
>To keep viewers, you don't want them to get bored or question why they are watching the series.
You mean the exact thing that happened hen Ash got to the league years into BW and they had to spend the last year of the show farting around in filler land to kill time until the next game came out? THAT's what got people bored, anon.
>let's blame BW for EVERYTHING
Don't spout bullshit. The number of viewers decrease after every season. OS was highes than AG, which was higher than DP, which was higher than BW which is higher than XY. Quality doesn't matter, it will only decrease because that's how things work.
Besides, Youkai Watch getting an anime at the same time also didn't help XY's situation.
I'm talking about general fan reception. The last 20 episodes of the series being "Ash visits some random themed islands and does random stuff there because he can" was not something people got super excited about.
Just like it has always been. New generations create hype, and nobody cares about what comes after the league unless it's something really interesting and not just filler sagas.
...which is exactly why rushing the league and then doing random bullshit afterwards is a terrible idea. That was my entire point. Ash should not reach the league until the end of the gen.
The only new generation hype that occurred was Sylveon, but that wasn't even shown until the ED of the filler season. Everything was still pretty much Black 2/White 2 with Episode N then jumped to the filler.
It took the monoboob thing to get me to remember.
He had grown stale as fuck even before they brought him back for DP.
Ever notice how it's almost only people who stopped watching long before he left that bitch about him leaving? There's a reason for that.
>tfw they actually gave her two tits in one scene in XY
Cause he was a limiting factor.
If they kept him on there's going to only be so much they can do with him because he's been on the show for so long with an even vaguer goal than Ash's.
>short hair Serena
Welp, time to pick up Pokemon.
ORAS has better girls, anyway.
Or, at least, it has best girl.
She got dethroned two weeks ago, anon.
BW has the most hottest pokegirls than any other season.
XY has second most and "make your own pokegirl"
I wonder what the next iteration will bring
Slow down champ, there are 63 episodes so think this out first, just the first 5 episodes, gym battles, a few fillers if you want pokegirls, and the last 4 episodes will do.
I actually haven't watched the XY season apart from a couple of episodes, is it really worth watching?
>just the first 5 episodes, gym battles, a few fillers if you want pokegirls, and the last 4 episodes will do.
Perfect. Now to deal with the fact that she'll never win.
Is it legitimately good?
You know, even though I don't like XY as much as most people here, I have to admit they're really doing the best they can to make it a good series. As least as much as they're allowed to do with a children's show.
If only they hadn't decided to bring shippingshit into it
I like to think Caitlin is russian.
If you want to watch all episodes then have at it haws, I just don't want people to waste their time, if they want to know what happened read a review of it
Remember Pokemon has a pattern in its filler
You see pokemon of the day
Meet guy of the day
Team Rocket tries to steal that pokemon and Pikachu
They get blasted off
Its an order from Giovanni, it used to be because TR thought the Pikachu was special but now it is official
Personally they have a better chance of going out and catching one and training it
Because she is too lewd to wear a swimsuit.
Roxy's hips dear lord
I would lose to the gym trainers on purpose just to get another look at them
Well, there was this. Other than that, it's Ash and Cilan as well as articulated figures of Ash and Serena.
I forgot this weird-ass thing existed.
There were some neat diorama figures released as movie 9 promos.
Nah, her skirt's filled underneath. Closest you'll get to pantsu is the Serena Moncolle figure( >>121850583), but they're modesty pantsu.
She is too hot
